Yes my sets with Unison have been my favourite achievements as an artist. I'm so grateful to them for choosing me to design the animal set, it's my favourite!

Wow Emma. I have the Animal Set and I did see this set, but didn't realize that you did it. I do have some of the small boxes of lights and darks. It's so difficult to find nice darks that aren't black. Thank you for the video!

Emma, what a wonderful set and you explain your choices so wonderfully. Hi Dory, the palette really depends on what you want to paint. For animals my Unison animal set lets you see what colours I tend to need. If you're on a budget, try sourcing these from cheaper brands at first for practise. But I always recommend adding a little high quality as and when you can. They are a world away from the cheaper brands. I started with cheap student grade pastels. The colour ranges are poor and they're very 'chalky' but they got me going.

Emma, how do you deal with the differences in the colors of Unisons when looking at them and then after putting them down on any color of paper? Part of my problem with using this brand is that they look so different on paper than they do in real life. For example, when trying to find the colors for a piece, it's difficult for me to find the right color. Do they seem that different to you or are you just so used to Unisons that your familiarity with them gives you no troubles? I also am curious to know if you find this to be the case with other brands that I've seen in your photos and if anyone else here has trouble finding the right color.

I don't think this is just Unison that do this, it's a pastel thing. Often the pastel looks a bit different to me because I've been handling it so maybe another colour has got on it. But I know what you mean as the colour can sometimes look a little different when you apply it. Colour is tricky as it'll look a completely different hue also because of the colour it's next to on your painting. Keep experimenting, it will come :-)
