I generally run light on infantry (60 going forward in my current list) and Death Korps of Krieg are incredible to inflict casualties on the enemy and use Reinforcements on. Grim Demeanor and the Medikit are immensely impactful compared to the other infantry options for damage input and durability. Don't even need a field marshal, though they're definitely a great investment. Side note - though yes you can go to 2+ BS or WS with Take Aim/Fix Bayonets and Grim Demeanor, think of it the other way - if you have the +1 to hit from Grim Demeanor, that's equivalent to a free order allowing you to use it elsewhere it's needed.
That’s similar to how I use them, the only order I use on them is take cover. Grim demeanor combined with the 2 meltas, GL’s, and plasmas makes them so much more impactful than any other infantry I’ve used.
Krieger rules were so perfect for my pirates tbh. People with nothing to lose except their and their comrades lives, unSanctioned psykers providing backup for exactly that purpose - trading off command structure (vox) for firepower (plasma) - it was a bit of serendipity that the rules fit my fluff so well tbh. That the unit is also good just makes it that much nicer.
I mostly play at 1000 points, 60 kriegers with 3 marshals supported by a rogal and some field ordinance batteries. Very few list I’ve played against at that point level can kill an entire 20 man brick in a single turn. Myself and two friends did a 2k game once my 1000 points with a friends 1000 pts of Drukhari, versus a 2k ultramarines list (very terminator and dreadnought focused). It took the marine player 3 turns to clear my kriegers of the middle objective with a big brick of aggressors. While my 3rd block held another objective in the open without cover versus some termies and a dreadnaught. The entire time my teammate just zipped around in his boats and picked off units while I held on for dear life. Was a fun game, the marine player who has been playing for years was really shocked at how well kriegers did vs his army.
As someone who actively runs 160 infantry in most games I have to admit Kreig are my favoured troops hardy and resilient they pack enough firepower hidden in their ranks to threaten anything. They screen my Kasrkrins(Death Korps Grenadiers) so they can get the drop with all that delicious plasma and hotshots, but with the Kriegers in blocks of 20 with a Marshal (1 plasma) and 2 sargents (2 and 3 plasma) and 2 gunners (4,5,6,7,8,9 plasma shots) and a primarus psyker(d6+3 blast pseudo plasma shots) and 2 melta and grenade launcher shots you are really able to do some heavy lifting. They are the main show and its always disheartening for my opponent to kill them just to have them come back, they have often left them alive on 3 or 4 models just to avoid them popping up on the flanks later. So much fun. Nice work on the painting too😁
Thank you so much for that compliment and your Krieg collection definitely gives me envy 😃 Love to hear that you've enjoyed using massing Krieg that much!
@@CadianSergeantSteel I've been looking at your collection on utube and FB and your Cadians are quite nice to see on the table. I'm planning my next expansion wave of them but they are a grind to get through but it's definitely worth it when you see it all massed up.
I think I definitely will. I was super happy with how they came out. I'll just need to get another box of them. Surprisingly, I only had 1 box of Krieg models.
How so? Heavy weapon teams are always BS 5+ before buffs. With Take Aim they'd be 4+, and hitting on a roll of 3+ with Heavy ability. Am I missing something?
Not sure I am following. A 6+ FNP negates 16.6% of wounds dealt. A 5+ FNP negates 33.3% of wounds dealt. Are you including an invulnerable save or armor save too in the final percentage?
I run a Primary Cadian Army ;) even converted som atilan ruohg rider into Cadian Riders Riders, and i olny run 10-20 Krieg as a Center Inf unit they soak some decent damage ;)
Niice! I've also been thinking about Cadians behind Krieg. Krieg screening, Cadians getting ObSec on the objectives they go over. This might work to block, double screen, and hold objectives. How well have the Krieg worked for you in the midfield?
Hi I just wondering instead of using the psyker, could you use Inquisitor Greyfax instead or just the Inquisitor instead? Very old player (1st ed) returning to 40k i think i like AM to get back into the game. I was looking to run 2x 20 man cadians with command squads (bought 2 combat patrols) and a Castellan each was thinking of swapping one out for 20 Kreig + Marshall and the psyker. the rest of my army will be made up of leaman russ x3 a Rogal Dorn, 3x scout sentinals 1x armoured sentinal, a hydra, a field ordinance cannon and a heavy weapons unit and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (2k list only to play with friends)
I dont rate the psyker. Makes them very expensive. And they are only really weak to mass shots, which are typically low ap. So take cover + cover probably means your taking 4+ armour saves anyway
That's a good critique of that build. That's why I never did it myself. It was used against me to great efficiency though. So much so, my opponent almost quit the game when I nearly wiped them all out in the midturns with FRFSRF and my own troops 😅
I've found that the psyker is an amazing buff piece but ultimately I just enjoy the damage output. The Kriegers will give him +1 to wound on a strength 6 weapon pumping out d6+3 +blast weapons at ap2 dam 2 it basically is a amazing plasma gun for the points. if it didn't do the psychic barrier I'd still take it.
@@friendlyneighbourhoodsunwheel Bought the Psyker bc. I like Psykers and didn´t expect much in a game from it. But Jesus, one of my strongest damage dealers right now!
Psykers are okay in more casual games but they're too expensive. Considering these guys want to be on objectives, they're just too weak to close combat when you add those 60 extra points. Try a few games against close combat and you'll see why they're rarely run competitively.
I don't mind the psyker because I'm the kind of player who would take plasma cannon Devestators, against a block of 20 guardsmen that's alot of high AP shots and a 4++ is gonna make a difference there.
@@CadianSergeantSteel I'm a noob but if I could ask a question, in a casual match theoretically could I use the Grimaldus BT model as a proxy for lemartes (whoever the BA chaplain is) as long as I'm using the correct data sheet? I'm struggling to decide which army to run. Stuck between templars and BA. Thank you for the fast reply to the previous question.
@ice_siberia1546 in casual play, definitely. Most opponents in general would be supportive. A large competitive tournament might be an issue though unless you painted or kitbashed it in ways to make it special or unique.
