I just thought I would weigh in on this cane. I just received mine and while I think it is a very sturdy cane I have the same three complaints that most people seem to have: 1) I wish it were 1 inch diameter for a better grip 2) the stock cane tip is garbage 3) I wish the crook opening were wider. Unfortunately not much can be done about the shaft diameter. However, 2&3 can be corrected and quite easily. The cane tip can be replaced with a good rubber cane tip. Widening the crook is tricky but I tried something tonight that seemed to work. The opening is about 3 3/4 inches wide. Too narrow for hooking without risking stabbing someone. I read several comments by people who have tried to open the crook. Attempts with a heat gun seem to have failed. Others have immersed it in hot water and attempted to bend the crook too much and snapped it. Instead I followed a suggestion someone made but I don’t think they actually tried. I took a block of wood that was just over 4 inches wide and wedged it between the shaft of the cane and the pointed tip. I then measured the opening of the crook and saw that it was now just over 4 inches wide. I then immersed the cane in boiling water from the tip to just the point where it begins to reach the crook. I kept it in the boiling water a good 5 minutes. I then placed it in cold water for 5 minutes. When I removed the wood block I saw the crook opening was now over 1/4 inch wider at just under 4 inches. I repeated the process this time putting a folded piece of cloth between the shaft and one side of the wood block to push the crook opening a bit wider. I again immersed it in boiling water followed by cold and now the opening is 4 1/16 inches wide. A good size opening for hooking is about 4 1/2 to 4 3/4 inches. I could repeat the process but do not wish to risk deforming the bend in the crook which at the moment is still intact. There is no need because I forgot to mention a 4th criticism which others have had. The point. I agree it is too sharp and too menacing looking. Even with a wider opening the risk of puncturing a leg or neck and causing fatal hemorrhage if the jugular is hit is too great. I plan on cutting the point and blunting it by going from the inside of the crook and cutting down and to the outside. This should open the crook up another 1/4 to 1/2 inch at least. That would put it at just over 4 1/2 inches wide which should be plenty. Hope this helps anyone out there frustrated by the narrow crook opening. Just a quick P.S. / additional comment on the diameter of this cane. I stated above as have others that they wish it were 1 inch in diameter. I have a hickory cane from Purple Heart Amoury that is 1 and 1/16 inches in diameter. I like it a lot and it weighs 1lb 3 oz. This United Cutlery Cane is 3/16 smaller in diameter and yet it weighs more thAn my hickory cane. It is obviously a denser material. My feeling is if this same material were used to make a cane 1 inch in diameter it be a little too heavy to wield quickly.

I also own the United Cutlery Bushcraft and it is my EDC. It is definitely a cane built to last a lifetime and I love it! It is not susceptible to temperature fluctuations and it requires no maintenance. I found it difficult to find the 22mm cane tip in my local stores but, I found a company on Amazon that sells 22mm tips for crutches and it works extremely well. The crutch tips are larger and much more durable than the usual cane tip. Stay safe out there.

Thanks for the review, I decided to get one after seeing the two vids you did and I'll cut the spike down as you recommend or I'll never be able to get on a plane with it in the UK, and might use the tennis tape as well to improve the grip. Cold Steel stuff is designed for cro-magnons to use, far too bulky and the Dragon Head looks nice but I can't walk far with it, damned uncomfortable and heavy. I have a hook Hickory Stick from Bad Ass but not convinced it wouldn't snap in extremis, this is substantial.

Bah! You ruined a perfectly good tactical cane.

Used foam rubber tubing off of a home gym piece...just covered up the point but, your comment on legal limitations are noted. Better grip and I used the stopper that came with it for while without screwing it on...bad move(!)...thanks for the 7/8ths tip idea. yeah, I broke a number of aluminum canes before I got it as well.

Why C.S.won't make one like this is beyond reason.What does C.S. make sword cane&those that look like black axe.They already have machines that make escrima sticks&staff,what would it take to add crook to staff&shorten it.Not C.S.instead comes out with poly stick that looks like bad ass axe&claims "we have been asked for cane with crook on it".I'm sure a walk down Broadway with it would not draw any attenion,as a python round ur neck as a pet would.NOT.C.S.dropped the ball,at least united will sell many more than C.S.very smart united cutlery,finally outdid C.S.

I like it, except I would have angled the handle end point (blunted, for the same reason you stated) outward instead of inward, to better facilitate trapping moves.

Get a good quality 1inch hickory cane. It will be light enough to use, and for 99 people out of 100, unbreakable against a telephone pole. No problem at airports or government buildings. And it will be just as effective as a weapon. AND PRETTY TO BOOT.😎

just a note these canes are injected nylon with reinforced fibreglass, not polypropylene, I agree the end caps are crap and must be replaced. I am going to try to get a cap sorted for the crook spike, I don't want to cut mine as once that is done it's permanent.

I modded mine and it's awesome. Definitely had to trim and reshape the horn. It would catch my wrist or cuff when spinning. I spin it asI walk forest trails, and then stop at dead standing tree's to practice upon them with the cane and my knifes and my tomahawks. When I get to a giant dead standing tree up the hill, I throw my tomahawks into it. This cane goes everywhere with me. Mine is particularly heavy because of the grips I've hitched on which also act as striking surfaces. Stock, this cane was useless dry, and entirely useless wet, just like most really. The small 7/8 diameter doesn't help, but its already heavy. When I pick up my oak canes which also have cord work in them for armor, grip, and striking surfaces, they feel very light and quick in my hand. I always have a cane with me everywhere I go. So I have made quick draw belt holders for it and have protocol for shopping and checking out and driving and getting in and out, with it. I often will have three fighting knifes and two small tomahawks on me as well as toe protection and a bump cap insert in my hat. Also, keep a tactical Penlight on me which I've customized. I can dual weld my cane with any of my other weapons powerfully and adjust my grip as my fighting range changes. I practice everyday. Its fun, though it all hurts cause Im old and fucked up. I been working on this for awhile now, and have developed a tactical system of self defense for myself. If I'm going into the VA, then I leave my blades behind and take mt cane and hat and tactical Penlight, and pocket hank of 1/8" cord x 6.5'. My Oak canes I gotta hitch a ton of armor to if I wish to practice on dead tree's. I have to replace some of that nylon cord armor everyday, and eventually the oak will crack and splinter anyway. This nylon filled fiber cane is truly indestructible. I only strategically hitch on cord for striking surface and grip and guard reasons onto the UC Cane. The way I doit allows me to soin my cane still and with this heavy cane, spinning fast with footwork, is an intense quick whole body workout. I use all kinds if techniques to move this heavy hard hitter with speed and power in unexpected movements, so Im very fast and heavy hitting. Even fighting it single handed and dual welding with tomahawk. I got grip station on it down low for foraging also. It helps when reaching down and getting up or when leaning over one plant to get to another, or when reaching up to hook a fruit bearing branch and bring it into reach. I also use the j handle to pry tomahawks stuck into the tree.

Have you checked out Ka-Bar aluminum cane? Its like $92 on Amazon. 0.1 aircraft Al black in color, unbreakable.
@gmwilliams4314
@gmwilliams4314 7 лет назад
I bought Ka-Bar awhile back and it is really heavy. However, you can break bones in half with just one strike. Last, it being aluminum it is susceptible to temperature fluctuations. Hot in the summer and freezing during the winter! Overall a nice cane, that is if you are strong enough to use it.

I have looked at both the k bar aluminum cane and the Robaina raven which is a lighter version. The problem with any metal cane is that certain airports will not let you board a plane with a metal cane unless you can prove your disabled. This problem does not exist with a wooded or plastic cane.

Why do you like this better than the hickory canes?
@muddog1561
@muddog1561 7 лет назад
Herman Ingram because these don't break as easy. There a lot stronger. There lighter than the wood canes. They don't look as nice at all. But I don't care about what they look Iike.

would you recommend it? how tough is it?
@muddog1561
@muddog1561 8 лет назад
Yes, I would recommend it, it's pretty tough. It does flex a little, but not that much, I have been leaning on it when I need to, I'm 265 and 5'10", so I'm pretty big. The impact from it on a bag is very good also it will move a bag a lot. I have broken 2 1" diameter Oak cane's from impact stress, I would be surprised if anybody could break this cane just from using it for what it is made for. Thanks for watching.
@podsmpsg1

so, I really don't want to be on the receiving end of it, do I? is it resistant to weather and the elements?
@muddog1561
@muddog1561 8 лет назад
+STEVE P it made out of polypropylene, so weather or heat is not supposed to bother it. And, I definitely would not want to get hit by it.
