United States Coast Guard Tribute "Semper Paratus" 

Many people don't realize that during WW2 the guys who operated the landing craft for the D-Day invasion were Coast Guardsmen.

The Coast Guard often doesn't get the recognition it deserves. However, many would have to admit that they were glad that the Coast Guard was there when they need to be rescued at sea! And of all of the military anthems, I like the Coast Guard's the best.

To all the Coasties that risk their asses to save OURS!! God Bless and Save you all!!!

For people saying that CG isn't a "real military branch", the coast guard served in every major united states military conflict

My son is a recruit at TRACEN in Cape May, and will graduate in 2 weeks, couldn't be more proud!!

yeah, my best friend's older brother is finally leaving for Cape May, and my friend himself wants to join the coast guard. i myself want to join the navy, but i got nothing but respect for the USCG.

Of the five official military marches, this one is my favorite, even though I'm an Air Force veteran.

I was a firefighter - different thing, but I already know that something you're not expecting can trigger a particular memory, and the next thing you know, you're not in the moment anymore because you're immersed in that memory. I know without being told that you know about this. And thank you for your service.

During my service in the U.S. Navy, my most memorable moment was assisting the Coast Guard with the rescue of merchant seamen when their vessel sank. The Coast Guard helicopters landed on our aircraft carrier to refuel in order to complete the round trip. If I were allowed to re-live my life again, I would choose to serve as a U.S. Coast Guard SAR (Search And Rescue) pilot. I would get more satisfaction saving lives than taking lives. Bravo Zulu to all my comrades from the Coast Guard.

I served... I spent countless hours in the engine room and countless more hours on patrol in a 21ft RHIB... I pulled dead men from the water.. I pulled live children from the water... I saved a few lives... I watched a few slip beneth the waves... sad, but 20 years later, I can't see the faces of those I saved, but I can see the ones I didn't... Sempre Paratus

It really sucks that people think the Coast Guard isn't a military branch. They go to boot camp, they learn the Chain of Command, rank structure, how to wield a rifle, close drill, physical fitness, and discipline. I've watched the Coast Guard at boot camp. Simply no joke. They all think it's going to be a push-over. I loved their faces when they got there. Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, if they say anything bad about Coasties, they have no respect for themselves and the country they serve.

Repaired a Buoy Tender,manned by the US Coast Guard when a command detonated mine nearly cut it in half. The Flat Hats have my total respect and are welcomed as a comrade-in-arms. I have also observed them 3 days after 9/11 whilst in the Merchant Marine as a Engineer on a 300 ft Passenger Cruise Vessel. Trust me they are the answer to near coastal defense!

When I was in the University of Nebraska marching band, we would play an armed forces medley once a year. This one was and always will be my favorite.

To all current and former USCG people out there, thank you for your service; words that are not said nearly as often as they need to be said.

To all the men and women who are serving and have served in the U.S. Coast Guard thank you for your service to our country. Today August 04, 2020 marks the 230th birthday of the U.S. Coast Guard.

I am trying to get my military set in order and I see they always exclude the Coast Guard when Coast Guard was actually a branch before the Air Force, so I hope to play all 5 branches on my bagpipes in the order of branches and when I talk to other pipers they say you must play Semper Paratus last. Well, I will make it right or I won't do it. The military set must be in order of branches, no other is correct and a disrespect in my point of view. The proper order is Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard then Air Force.

Sad that the Coast Guard is often overlooked of being a part of the armed forces, what is even more sad is that people call them useless.

My father warned of the Dangers in the Coast Guard, his ship the Minesweeper YMS 133 went down with all hands lost off Coos Bay Oregon Feb 20 1943. Dad was sent to Alaska to crew a Yippee Boat (Coastal Patrol). It was so cold.. they had to cook with a blowtorch. The Coast Guard has always been a Class Act. Never say anything bad about the Coast Guard, they are Part of The Navy In Time of War. Remember. Veterans died for your freedom.

The Coast Guard never gets the credit that they are due. Just watching the video indicates it. They're more than just the "fresh water sailors" the Navy 2:53 makes them out to be. And I say that as a former Marine and retired Navy reservist (Yes, there IS such a thing.). And their march is pretty cool too.

well, all the branches make fun of each other, i know, it's the same thing in my Navy Junior ROTC, no biggie though, we all realize we're on the same team

My grand father was a coastie during ww2. And died when an artillery shell hit the landing craft he was driving. Anybody who says that the coast guard is stupid, harms the memory of him and other coast guardsmen. And my great uncle was working in Cape cod the night the Pentledon and fortmercer accidents happened. Of course he was off duty and stuck at home, but he was able to eventually get to the Mercer after it sank and helped with wreckage clean up.

The USCG's only Medal of Honor winner in WW2 was a Higgin's boat cox'n. Douglas Munro.

The real motto is "You (Coastguardsmen) have to go out (on rescues), but you don't have to come back (hence the risks)

I served in the Army, 4 yrs 3 mos 2 days. I shot cannons and kept Kansas awake at night. Then I served in the Coast Guard 5 yrs 2 days. I rode out "The Perfect Storm" searching for a fishing boat lost at sea on the USCGC Northland (WMEC904); Then I served on the USCGC Gallatin (WHEC721) and hunted and captured drug smugglers then rescued Haitian immigrants sailing on unseaworthy vessels on the same day in the Caribbean Sea; among other unsaid operations. The Army was easy by comparison.

@bobwachtler You know, for those of you who hold the CG is a bracnh of the military you all sure hate my opinion which the military gives me through protecting the constitution. You may not like my beliefe that the CG is not a branch of the military and that is all fine and good, but you are all persecuting me for what I believe which the last time I checked was covered by the 1st Amendment. Now I do respect their mission, I just dont believe they are true military

@Phantomregiment8 my dad has served 18 years in the USCG plus 2 in the army and i intend on joining after i graduate. From my experiences, the under-credited CG is amazing. i have never met such a close-knit group of guys. i wouldn't suggest joining if you don't like boats though, or rough seas, or harsh weather or seeing the entire American coastline. try applying to the academy before you enlist, you get better pay. hope it helps.

As a Viet Nam Vet the "Flat Hats" had my respect as thety too went into harms way as did their brothers in the Navy Riverine Forces.Later when I joined the Merchant Marine and got some of their training I have no reservations to say that they are the pros on intercoastal security and S.A.R. When your ship is in deep do-do there is only one service that is trained to come to your aid and I tip my hat to them.

@qnaqna321 I know that. It's just some people in this country are ignorant towards those who serve. I just pissed at the moment because my friend told me the military is nothing but a bunch of .....y'know what, never mind. I will never disrespect a member of the Armed Forces...ever.

@rdoggg19 the irony here is that even though the USCG is not part of the Department of Defense, they seem to be the only branch of the military whose focus is DEFENSE. All the others seem to be more focused on OFFENSE. Unless you consider protecting US oil interests defense.

@rdoggg19--a little know fact: the flag that flew on Mt. Surabachi, Iwo Jima, was a US Coast Guard flag.The Coast Guard drove the boats to the beaches on D Day......they served with pride and honor in both Vietnam and Iraq. I think you need to offer an apology.

@McDago100 The U. S. Coast Guard, has seen combat in virtually every conflict fought by the United States since 1790. Most of the stories you heard were probably from the WW2 era when they were deployed alongside the Navy in both the Pacific and Atlantic.

@retiredcgw Everybody, he is right. The Coast Guard is involved in wars. Even part of the lyrics say "Our flag is carried by our ships in time of war, and peace." Also research wikipedia. Search "U.S. Coast Guard", and it will show the wars they fought in.

Oh come on the puddle pirates are not a real branch. They are not in the DoD unless it is a time of war any other time they are Department of Homeland Security (formerly Department of Transportation). The DoD branches are the real military.

Charlie 54, 1966. Best training company you would ever find. I spend thirty years in the guard and retired a Senior Chief Petty Officer. Served on many cutters and served at stations and bases, from the Outer Banks to Hawaii, Vancover B.C. to Mexican port of calls. Saved lives and busted a few people along the way. I don't know why but Semper Paratus is my favorite of the military anthems. And I was never in the military nor have I ever had a relative that served in the Coast Guard. I did have a close friend in the Coast Guard, though.

You are right when you said, "the Coast Guard doesn't get as much attention as the other branches" Most people don't know or believe the CG was in Viet Nam or the gulf wars.

Coast Guard to me seems a mix between a police service and the military - I wish I'd joined when I was younger.

How would you know? Was you a member of the Coast Guard? Do you think you could do their job? Could you jump out of a helicopter into the Bering Sea? I know I couldn't.

@rdoggg19 Discipline is as tough or tougher. Fact. And as far as "war" goes, the Coast Guard is more likely to regularly "pull a weapon" than any other service.

Great anthem. I consider it to be the best of all the U.S. military service anthems. But, what the heck is the "U.S. Military Band of the Grenadier Guards?"

I was in my first week of CG boot camp when the Point Welcome was shot up. Later went to Viet Nam on the USCG Gresham.

Like they say, " You have to go out but you don't have to come back " .

I served from 1970 to 1974, my father served from 1944 to 1946. May lives, property saved and men brought home.

Yeah, I guess I kinda jumped there. The DoD services do a lot of good work, and I'm also proud of them.
