There isn't a defined "Hard Level" to Programming or Art, some people are better at it than others. I am a programmer and I SUCK at art, but to me, programming is like walking, it comes natural. It depends on the person and their skill set.
This is the video I watched when I first got into game development. I learn so much over the years. I already getting close to making my best game yet. Thank you Unity and staff.
Why the hell have I been derping around with GameMaker all these years when I could have been learning how to use Unity? This video made me giddy with all of the possibilities. I'm sold!
Best Update for Unity so far, i just fiddled around with it and you can create amazing things. Much easier than before when you had to wrap your 2D sourrounding in a 3D environment. Now Unity needs a better standart GUI System, for example the one from Visual Studio and Unity would nearly be perfect.
So, I'm a music guy. I have extensively used Logic, fl studio and protools in school, but damn. There's something about watching this that makes me excited for something I didn't even know existed really. It's like a DAW, but for making video games. I gotta try this.
As a fellow music guy (Logic user) you're totally right. Also, take a look at the audio system added in Unity 5, it's basically a DAW style mixer inside Unity that you can route and process things in real time. Super fun. - Matt S.
I am looking for tutorials focusing on 2d sidescroller specificly i am looking for programing the enemy AI, if i come in a certan radius of them i want them to swing their sword,i want them to follow me, and to find their way to me(jump over obsticals),i dont care 2 much about them being able to see me couse i want to make a game where you go from room to room so yes they will see me if i am in the room, is it good to use a simple collider2d like boxcollider to ask if the player is in range to swing? would be awesome if unity would make some toturials about these kinds of topics, thanks
I hope maybe maybe someone can answer this Little thingy chingy. Im currently trying to figure out how to make a 2D game in Unity but the question I have is this: The game im making is similiar to this one because its 2D but I want mein to be able to walk up and down a Little bit on the ground, so the game gets more variety and more creative.. ( Is it called 2.5D game? :D )

i'm searching 4 weeks 2 learn how i can make simple 2D Objects. Background, character etc. which format, min/max resolution ,... :( i love unity ( i'm from scripting and wanna learn everything what is needed 2 build a game. THANKS
Can we design and implement our own backgrounds and other unmovable sprites or are we just allowed to use the ones that come with the software shown in the video?
How easy is this to use for a novice? I don't know any programming languages but I can draw good and have imagination and an idea for a game (2D side scrolling story/puzzle game). Is it realistic to attempt it on my own with unity 5?
maybe. It always depends on the complexity of your Game Mechanics. Coding in 2D is also a lot easier than 3D. Also you won't just need to be able to code but also know about animation Systems and the Physics engine. I worked on a 2D game for a while so please write me your idea and I'll See what I can do for you
TBH I wanted to try out Unity, but as someone who's always programmed stuff from scratch I just didn't manage to figure out how to work with this. Like, it seems as if instead of having a game that may have certain levels loaded, you create a level and add the game to it. I know I may sound stupid, but I just can't figure it out...
i have 2 guestions :)))) 1)can someone post a tutorial for how to make a sidescrolling game from the beggining? 2)the graphics of the game depends on how you got paint them in photoshop? thnx :)
1.) There are plenty out there I guess 2.) Yes mostly. So if you try to do a high end cinematic game and you dont know how to make your characters than its not going to look very good but people who are no good artists can try to make simple graphics and keep the game simple which is the better idea anyway. A one man Team is not probably going to be able to do a high end game... so keep it simple and make a good simple game rather than a big impossible one
