Great point on the gravity center point. A lot of people don't quite understand that. Which I totally get, when your sitting that high your mind wants to tell you that you could just tip right over.
No worries man! Portals are a gear reduction hub that mount at each tire. They give you a 30% gear reduction, 4" more clearance and 8" wider. Pretty awesome! Go to superatv.com and look them up or check out our youtube channel we have done several videos on them! Hit us up with any questions!
Nice informative videos, thank you! Your opinion and upgrades on the Can-am X3 would be great. I'm a Can-am guy but respect Polaris for sure. Keep up the good work!
thank you soooo much for this video!! This answered most of the questions i have had and some i didnt think about to get a universal type rig. I have a turbo 4 that I want to do a similar set on. The biggest thing I have concerns about that you didnt talk much about is how the portals affect top speed and with portals is there any clutch work that needs to be looked into? Thanks again for a great informative vid!
muadeab Appreciate the comment and with a 4” portal and 34-36” tire we do not do any clutching. We only run oem clutching. With a 35” tire we only loose about 5-6mph off the top end!🤘
The universal kit should work great with a Dynamix XP4 Turbo, correct? I assume the shocks are stock. Thanks for working so hard to find the perfect all purpose machine. Love your videos.
Great videos and thanks for all the information. I was wondering if you had any concerns about not being able to keep the front sway bar with the boxed A arms, does it lean too much when cornering hard? Thanks!
Love your videos! It's great to see how the upgrades perform and to get your opinions. I want to build this exact machine. You didn't mention anything about the shocks. Are they stock? Wouldn't the extra weight and leverage require springs and revalve?
Thank you we appreciate the support! We actually for the first half of testing ran stock shocks and it performed good, then we put Zbroz tenders on all for corners and it performed better and last step we just had MTS offroad to a full revalve and spring kit and it is awesome! Is it necessary no, but the ride is so much more enjoyable now.
Yeah I’ll take the SlikRok deal 🤘😁🤘 yeaaaah 💪😎👍 hey I’ve got a couple of ideas to run by ya that help the other end of the spectrum... the states with 60” Laws 👌
hey ryan. bring rick back.lol yeah i allready have a bunch of super atvs stuff on my rig. portals are on my wish list too. i love the slick rock rigs. if i had the money mine would be just like it. i ride with some jeeps with 44s . i need portals. got some 32 " bighorn knockoffs(made by journy) gonna try to runnem without portals in my xp1000. hope i dont just smoke belts. lol
@@SlikRokProductions great vids. im only subscribed to 4 people and u guys are one of them. keepem coming. your spot on with superatv. they build everything the way polaris should with a much better warrenty.
Great setup and thanks for the info. My ranger is about the same setup. Question is for now. I was thinking of buying a rzr but what model would you recommend. There isn't a trails and rock in a 4 seater this year. What would you re the base model, dynamic or high lifter. Do you think the dynamic shocks would be good for the rock climbing.
Hey Kris! We have 2 dynamic machines and they are very impressive, I would definitely lean that way. My suggestion is take them both for a test drive and see which you like better!
@@SlikRokProductions would you say that the turbo version is overkill for the most part, I mean for the rock climbing portion. I don't plan on doing dunes. I was looking at the high lifter edition with the lower low gear. I am not going to get it wet but I am defiantly going to have a 4 seater. I do like the Dynamic edition with the ride command. But the Highlifter has a 50% lower low gear and I could install the Ride command. Don't get me wrong I love the Turbo S but don't know if it way overkill for light trails and Rock.
Well I am pulling the trigger on a 2019 turbo S. I appreciate all of your info. One other question how do you feel about a duraclutch clutch in one of these rigs. I won't be doing dunes. And as far as superatv ATV and your universal build I will be going the same way. I guess you could say you have got me addicted to your build. I have a duraclutch on my ranger and it is awesome for the mountain climbing in the desert. Just wondering if you have any thoughts on it. Thanks alot I think I will need a slickrock logo for my new rig.
@@SGTKILLJOY That is awesome and congrats on the new purchase. We can get you some decals no problem just email us your info. We actually have never ran a dura clutch and don't want to steer you in the wrong direction.
james myers we run them on two of our rigs but not of any of the others. We run them because we had clearance issues with the tie rods and a Arms combinations.
How much clearance do you get in the narrowest spot between the portals and wheel? I think I've heard you mention those are 15" wheels right? Also, in your opinion, for primarily mud/trail riding, what size tire would push you to say you would "need" a 45% reduction vs a 30%?
Yes you are correct. We have found that with a 34" tire you are still gain a little bit more lower end but still hit 64mph. Ideally to be to a 1:1 ratio you should run a 35" or 36" tire.
Great video as always! 1 thing tho, what about upgraded power steering to handle the portals and big tires? Is that a necessary upgrade or will the factory steering be fine?
Factory steering will be fine, we are working on a fix to bring the outer tie rod back to factory geometry to eliminate bump steer and over turning without sacrificing turning radius. This is only a problem with the forward offset a arms.
Hey Jacob, most the steering issues with these machine comes from running the forward offset a arms because it changes the factory geometry of the tie rod allowing to over steer and bump steer. Have have started making our own brackets that weld to the protal brackets to set the tie rods back to factory geometry. Without forward offset a arms you will rub with a 34" tire. Hope that helps!
Quick question I do a lot of mud riding here in Texas I already have a 3 to 5 inch bracket lift on my 17 highlifter when I add these portals would it be ok to leave the bracket lift on or ideal to remove it?
In our opinion removing the bracket lift when adding the portals will give you alot better and more comfortable ride and your machine will articulate so much more.
So basically almost 10 grand after the cage and wheels..... Having said that I'm saving my pennies hoping my rzr xp1000 4 seater non-turbo can turn 32's without losing too much power LOL
Hello, Do you know if they are making tha atlas boxes a arms in the 1.5 forward version? I was told no on the phone, but not sure if she knows what she was talking about. And if they are not making them will the 34 inches tires clear with 4 inch portals? Thanks.
Yes they are making the atlas boxed a arms in the forward offset. Only issue is they say they don't offer them for the turbo models because of the sway bar tabs on them will puncture the radiator on compression. So just order the arms for the non turbo, cut the tabs off and use there bushing kit for the older model.
@@SlikRokProductions Ok well I just got off the phone with them again and they did confirm that they are not making them. They are only making the tubular style. So I would like the boxed style but I am wondering if the non forward style will fit 34 inch tires? Thanks I appreciate it.
That one is on the list as soon as they come out with a 4 seater. Hopefully this November! I would get ahold of Dekon at Vent Racing or Vern at Rebel Style kustoms. Both do great work just comes down to what style you like!
What size tires could you fit under this if need be? The reason I ask is because although we want to go to a universal build since we are traveling the country going to different riding terrains, the closest one to our house that we visit often is a pure mud park. We still need to be able to stuff large mud tires for clearance.
With the 4" portals we have found that a 34"-36" tire is perfect with the gear reduction ratio. You could probably squeeze a 37" in there but would rub if it is wider than 10"
Thanks so much for the information. I sent my wife these vids and she is onboard for doing this upgrade. We mainly ride Alabama/Florida mud, but are going to Paiute/Moab in July and are planning to a different ride somewhere different every month. This setup will be perfect for us I think since we are planning on tackling all types of terrain. Been working my way through your vids. Great info.
SlikRok Productions I'm sorry to keep pestering you man, but I have another question. I don't own the turbo, I own the High Lifter. It has a 55% reduction in low gear. To get a similar "universal" type build, how would you go about it? It isn't unquestionable to sell it and buy a turbo, but I would rather not since it is a 2018 and we paid cash, so I would lose my ass on the sale.
John Morrison Don't ever apologize for asking us questions! There is no need to sale your machine unless you are wanting the turbo. We can achieve the same universal build with your highlifter. So when we go to the 4" portals with the 30% gear reduction we are actually offsetting that ratio by running bigger tires. I.E. 30% gear reduction substituted for a 30% larger tire. We run 34"-36" and have found those work really well. So all in all if you go to bigger tires your low gearing and high gearing should be about the same as you are experiencing now.
I have the exact same setup other than the 2" wheel spacers. Does the spacers cause any issues? I've had issues with the back sides of my front wheels rubbing my brake lines.
@@SlikRokProductions I'm running a 10" wide wheel with 32" rocktanes. I was thinking about stepping up to a 34" or 35". I do alot of rock crawling and trail riding.
