It probably makes me a terrible person, but I get a laugh out of Amol getting angry at the adult contestants when he's never needed to remind the students. "YOU MAY NOT CONFER!!!"
I also laughed at the "You may not confer!!" (16:04). I think Heathcote was driving Amol a little bit crazy. I also loved the funky geography, which placed Coventry in West Yorkshire (9:18 through to 9:40) and Bristol in the North West (19:57 through to 20:10).
It's a shame we lost Mr Renton-Skinner, but based on this match, I'm surprised Mr. Heathcote wasn't on the team to start with given the six starters he racked up 😮! Winners won on all counts - 19/33 and 11 starters vs 7/18 from six starters - sets up an intriguing battle with Corpus Christi tomorrow - looking forward to it!
people like you make me sick, writing spoilers. Also re Dan Skinner *Renton* is his middle name not the first part of his surname as you imply by writing Mr Renton-Skinner. He called himself Skinner and so did Amol. If you look up his bio you will find there, he is only referred to as Dan Skinner in the general text (only Renton is mentioned as is normal in the introduction. So get it right. Renton is my son’s second name too…it was his great grandfathers as well. Named after a river in Scotland.
“I'm surprised Mr. Heathcote wasn't on the team to start…” Me, too! David Heathcote really did well on the Middlesex team-and, in addition to starters, he helped out on the bonus questions.
Heathcote and Hepworth holding the Middlesex team together from either side was very fun to watch. Bit surprised by the lack of science knowledge from apparently everyone on the Christmas episodes?
17:25 “In the 1923 general election, who stood for the Liberal Party at Leicester West but lost to the Labour candidate? In the following year, he became the Chancellor of the Exchequer under Baldwin.” The University Challenge “rule,” as far as I can ascertain, is, with regard to questions dealing with MPs from the early part of the 20th century, one answer is invariably Winston Churchill. And nice tie, Amol!
Thanks for putting up university challenge here on behalf of those of us living overseas who don't get to see the programme otherwise - I think it'd be great to turn off comments though because there are always spoiler comments giving the results away. When you open RU-vid it always shows the top comment ("well done x good luck against y inn the final").
I assume we are seeing that two of Bangor's players were also rugby club members. I wonder if there's a significance t it appearing that their stripes are inverted.
