Tonight's match is between two very young teams from the nominally Scottish St Andrews University and Worcester College, Oxford. Now, this is probably the first time I've seen 5 people studying maths in a match, but sadly their knowledge has gone to waste in current UC's question composition. Original air date 3.10.2016

love this pattern: 1. green gives parker an answer 2. parker hesitates, makes skeptical parker face 3. green hisses at him "yes it's right!" 4. parker reluctantly gives green's answer (still skeptical parker face)

I found myself getting a bit annoyed with Parker. If you can't give your team's answer without pulling a "Don't blame me for this" grimace almost every time, you have no business being Captain.

Parker was useless - doesn't know the majority of the answers and just sits there hoping that his team makes him look good - which clearly can't happen.

Green looks so excited when he gets a question right - good to see such enthusiasm and I think he would have made a better leader. Parker seems largely pained and uninterested until the end. Mind you, he's bright enough and I may be misjudging him. Who knows what any of them are really thinking!

I found these questions harder than the average and the students did well. There was only twice during this round when I got one that they didnt (chicago/entertaining mister sloan). This was humiliating for me haha so thats why I am saying it was harder than usual. Seriously, did others think it a bit harder than usual or am I getting stupider?

@@baldANDfat at equality, amplitude cannot be determined. A simple example is a sine wave with samples taken at the nodes. All of the points are at zero, no matter the amplitude. Sampling off nodes just means there's phase-shift required to line up different amplitudes with the samples and a minimum amplitude that would correspond to the samples being taken at peaks.

This game has nothing of the American showmanship that makes game shows including Jeopardy! so much fun. Paxman's choice of words is sometimes appalling, with expressions like 'high scoring losers' rather than "wildcard'' like we say in North America.

University Challenge. Of a rather higher calibre than any American " game show". And why would any intelligent,well spoken British person ( like Paxman ) descend to using the poor excuse for language known as ' American English'? Ye Gods! does it really need to be explained?
