The University of the Arts marked its final day of existence on Friday, June 7, laying off over 600 staff members. Roughly 100 university staffers will be kept on indefinitely.
A majority of faculty and staff facing layoffs learned of their impending termination in an eight-minute Zoom call led by Alvarez & Marsal, the consulting firm UArts hired to manage its closure. Questions were not taken during the call.
The school is expected to pay its employees' final paychecks in full, as well as pay out any unused vacation time. Medical insurance was slated to continue through June 30.
