The thing about ads is they are not all the same quality, and can have drastically different effects. Even the great ads can only do so much. If I'm not interested in a product, reminding me of its existence and lauding it's virtues isn't going to get me to buy it. I have bought games based on sponsored streams before, but not many.
Spongebob's first few seasons have aged incredibly well, though that just so happened to be my childhood. Adventure Time is up there, and I hear nothing but good things about Steven Universe and Gravity Falls.
