In the UK, at the height of the pandemic there was a national ‘clap for the NHS (and other front-line workers)’ on Thursdays at 8pm, to show our appreciation.

People clapping outside their houses at 8 o'clock to applaud the NHS workers. It became a thing early in the pandemic. The workers said that they appreciated it, but really would prefer a pay increase (and for people to take sensible precautions). I'm not sure whether it's still happening.

I've seen the A&E phrase and never bothered to look it up. TIL it means Accident & Emergency. For me here in the States, it's a tv channel called Arts & Entertainment, although I believe they renamed it to the A&E method a long time ago. And as others have said, that knee joke was a real knee slapper.

If you are from another country, it may be helpful to know that A&E is the British term for what some countries call the ER - the hospital department that handles urgent cases

Diversity is a serious issue and should be challenged appropriately. However the UK is 85% white and a cheeky calculation tells you a randomly generated group of 6 people is 38% likely to be all white. So while British television in general is lacking in diversity it’s not as far off as you’re implying it is.
