wow! thank you! this is exactly what I was looking for to fit my needs. I was looking for "building blocks" all around internet and finally got the right term to start digging deeper. I am a pastor in Brazil and despite of using Logos I lack all these wonderful idea connections that Obsidian offers. Now it is time to dive into all your content. May the Holy Spirit keep enlightening you and your family in your journey. Love from Brazil! In Christ
Thanks for the content - very helpful! Is there a video on sketch noting in Obsidian? Would love to do that but have no idea on how to sketch in Obsidian. Or do you sketch somewhere else and then just add an image? Very curious.
I sketch on GoodNotes on my iPad then bring the images into Obsidian. I don’t have a video on my sketchnoting process, but maybe I should make one 🤔 If you want to sketch right in Obsidian, Excalidraw is probably the best option.
Been using Obsidian without note composer on. Mind blown! Thanks Mike. ❤ Bookworm, btw. Your atomic embedded verses 😮in sermon notes might help me with what I’m trying to do. Need some advice: My use case is: I have a list of songs as atomic notes. I have a list of albums as atomic notes. Songs first appear on an album in a position, ie. the last song, second song, etc on the album. The same song may also appear on a different album, like a compilation album, or a live album, in a different position in the track list. Or if I’m building a list of concert set lists, it may have been performed hundreds of times. What’s the best way generate track lists containing the songs? I was thinking the song would have tags for each album on which it appears, but that omits the track number on that album. I could have a second tag, like album name and track number, but that doesn’t seem like it would scale very well for concert lists. Any recommendations for how to do this with dataview? Extra complexity I can skip if not feasible: I also want to include other data for the song. For example, a live version one night might be a different run time. Say, someone took a long solo, or there was an extended jam, etc.
Thanks for the kind words 🙂 I'm not quite sure I completely understand the use case for the track lists, but I would try to tackle it with Properties. This would allow you to add the other data for the song (which would be the atomic note in this case I assume), and you could use Dataview to sort by the metadata. I'm guessing you might run into a few issues because Dataview has trouble with the new formatting of tags in Properties, but I don't imagine it will be very long until that gets ironed out.
Love your content!! having a bit of trouble still differentiating between double bracket linking to a new note - and atomic notes 😞 Im going to search through your videos see if I can help myself....
Thanks 😊 The linking to new notes is the way to tie atomic notes together. They’re separate concepts, but often used together. Links with double brackets can exist independent of atomic notes. Atomic notes really refers to the size of the note and breaking it apart to the smallest component part. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much! That was of great help! What is that thing with "transclusion links" that you mentioned at the end? I didn't understand that part. (Still relatively new to Obsidian)
Glad it was helpful! Re: Transclusion, it's a way to embed a note inside another note. To create a link to another note in Obsidian you use [[notename]], to transclude or embed the note you add an exclamation point in front like this: ![[notename]]
@@MikeSchmitz Ahh! I wasn't aware it was called transclusion, but I'd seen that concept before and it seems quite fantastic. Thank you very much, Mike.
