Great information, now I understand the cycle. I live in So.Calif and have been growing a pineapple in a container for two years and This summer I finally have a flower developing. I guess it will be a winter fruit. I have some suckers/slips that I will remove and replant. Again thanks a lot.

How do you Force them to fruit?
@aBitGreenerFarms
@aBitGreenerFarms Год назад
Hi John, we used Ethrel to ripen/mature the fruit so that the crop could be picked all at once. From memory, we sprayed Ethrel to induce the flowering so the the entire crop starts to fruit at the same time. I believe that farmers also use Ethrel to ripen Bananas and Mangos. Hence you’re able to ripen other fruit by putting it in a paper bag with a Banana, because it could still be gassing off a small amount of Ethrel. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Wow, pineapples are pretty hardy plants, but if they are dying because of some spray then it sounds pretty serious. You can try to remove any suckers before they become effected from the spray to replant as new stock.

Could you help me with something? I've tried rooting the tops in water many times and 98% of the time the top has immediately just rotted. I've only gotten 2 to root successfully.
@PaulGrambauer
@PaulGrambauer 3 месяца назад
Just let the top dry out for 2 weeks after you take it off the pineapple. Then just plant the top into the ground, and it will form roots into the soil. The water trick to get it to form roots is not required.

How far apart are they spaced?
@aBitGreenerFarms
@aBitGreenerFarms 9 месяцев назад
About 25cm, or 10 inches. Doesn’t have to be exact, as the plant will grow different sizes depending on the pineapple variety. Have a great day!

Trying to get Pineapple tops to root for the first time. Seen so many videos on how “easy” it is to grow from a top. However, not having the best luck so far. They seem to keep dying off before more roots produce. Just can’t figure it out 🤷‍♂️

Hi, I’m not sure where you’re located. Have you let them dry out for a couple of weeks, and then plant them into moist (not wet) soil? Make sure you don’t overwater them, they maybe rotting. Hope this helps, thanks for the feedback.

I try to let them ripen on the plant as long as possible, sometimes they're very sweet, sometimes not. Any trick to have them consistently sweet? If I want a force bloom I just use a small handful of Epsom salt. Growing them in Florida....I got a mix of store bought pineapples and Maui Gold that I got from Maui 4 years ago.
@aBitGreenerFarms
@aBitGreenerFarms Год назад
It appears as though the sweetness is directly related to the time of the year that its fruiting (ideally summer), and the ripeness when picked; at least in our climate. The plant stock may have something to do with the flavour as well, but to be honest, we never have had the opportunity to be able to select different varieties. Thanks for the feedback… epsom salts… will have to do a test to see what happens! Cheers.

Any difference between the Maui gold and store pineapple? I just started some plants last November here in central FL in pots. Four store pineapple and eight hilo white pineapple. Are you growing in pots or ground?
@tazman3181354
@tazman3181354 10 месяцев назад
@bringit3164 Maui gold is low acid high sugar. Sometimes I have store bought pineapples better than Maui gold. I planted most in pots some in the ground. Just to be on the safe side just in case of a freeze in Central Fl

@barringtonwoodburn3995 you can sprinkle it dry around the base, or mix it with water and water it.

That’s always a problem, we just plant more, assuming that the possums will get some.
