Neurophysiologist Louisa Nicola breaks down the powerful connection between cardiovascular exercise and brain health. Learn how activities like aerobic and resistance training can boost blood flow, release key brain-boosting factors like BDNF, and even help prevent cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s. Louisa also shares why Zone 2 cardio is the sweet spot for maximizing brain function and how to train smarter for long-term cognitive health.

Excellent. We are getting tired of the suggestions that we all need extreme exercise, as if we are all aspiring athletes...😂 Throughout the history humans engaged in moderate activity and very rarely in the extreme...

Most suggestions aren’t extreme, it’s that most people are lazy and consider moderate exercise to be extreme.

They engaged in moderate exercise thats correct but they also covered miles of distance daily. They engaged in everyday chores either squatting standing or sprinting. Their work at the house or outside were physically demanding. Have you ever hunted prey? Skinned it? Farmed it? Cooked everything from scratch? Raised multiple children? .. Our lives have gotten absolutely comfortable, most US households own 1-3 cars. And if we are to lazy to drive, we uber. Most jobs allow u to sit for 8 hrs a day. We have junk food in every corner of the city. The current indigenous groups that still exist and have allowed scientists to study them, have demonstrated how easily they clock in our recommended weekly exercise in 1 day and they don't suffer from hypertension or diabetes. If this message of moderate to intense exercise still bothers you, it's because you are still looking for an easy comfortable way to getting healthy and there isn't one. Change your mindset and you will welcome this information. Still, people who exercise regularly still make a minority in this country so it's no surprise that 2/3 of America is overweight.

I’ve just turned 77. I have been training with weights since I was about 12 years old to basically enhance my competitive athletic skills as a young man. I played varsity lacrosse in high school and college. After 40, and until the present, I continue with weight training and cardio work to a lesser degree. I present this background as evidence that such activities do support brain health. I still practice law and manage my own investments. At 69, I was admitted to MENSA after taking the admission test. In summation - Don’t smoke anything, remember that alcohol is poison, and have a few laughs each day.

@@Paula-fd6ljYou are right, too many people are too comfortable for their own good... Lifestyle changes would be better than just adding short intervals of high intensity training... Also changing habits is very hard...

So you think you can improve your VO2 Max without going Zone 4 for more than 35min a week?
@tracythompson1692
@tracythompson1692 22 дня назад
more Zone 2 less Zone 4. But the successful study of the #53 who were 50 yo was emphasizing Zone 4. So im getting conflicts in the message.
