Love the battery grip, I remember a while back both the G9 and the Oly E-M1ii had them bundled for free! The G9 is an incredible camera, probably the best bang for your buck all-rounder out there.

Hi, Connor. Thanks for the interesting video. I have a couple of G9s; one set up for video, the other stills. For video, I use the Pan 12-60 (couldn’t afford the Leica, but mine gives lovely images) and its weight, with mic and screen attached, is enough for me for a day’s shoot. I have a gimbal and a cage, and a day’s shooting with them lasts perhaps two and a half hours. Without cage or gimbal, I can pace myself for a whole day’s shooting, and that’s with the screen and mic attached, plus the stills G9 on a strap. MFT has extended my photography into my dotage. I have a little table-top tripod, light in weight, that I brace against my chest to give quite stable video, even short pans, and the stabilisation in my editing software, Resolve Studio, compensates for the shaky bits. I look rather silly, with some peculiar stances when filming, but a plus point of age is that I don’t care what others think. I agree with you: minimalistic is good. I wish I’d discovered this before I bought my cage. Thanks again.

I've got a bit of audio Frankenstein for my GH5 when run around an event. I use 2 mics and a Zoom Recorder. One is always hot, while the other is only on when recording. I hate more then anything coming home and finding I missed the start of the audio. Can't fix that, but I can always J-Cut some broll if I need to.

I use the same 12-60 with roland r-07 for audio and a weelite kraken ring light 3000 plus a battery grip. Gives me wireless audio monitoring and backup audio plus light without having a huge panel light. Its as minimalist as it gets

@@CreativeConnor same here! Also went with the speed booster sigma 18-35 setup and love that too. But in my experience one can pretty much do most any project and make it awesome with the 12-60 :-). Thanks for the other tips as well!

As a photographer who has yet to do anything that I have saved video on my G9 I keep saying I should start using it. I do all my editing on my a tablet now so I transfer everything with WiFi. I remember when playing with the video 1080 was no problem with WiFi for a transfer but my tablet just laughed at me when I messed around with 4K which I don’t see ever having any use for anyways.

So I have a Neewer lightweight video cage comprising of two side handles and a top handle (£35). I swapped the top handle for a Small Rig handle (as the original handle didn’t have a hot shoe mount). It’s big enough to take the G9 with Battery Grip and I mount a bracket to the handle which holds an iPad mini which acts as a wireless field monitor and I also mounted a hot shoe bracket on the top left of the cage to slide the Panasonic Shotgun Mic. in (if I want to record good audio) alternatively I found that my Fotovelt Gimbal Stabiliser (extension) handle can be screwed into the base of the grip and that gives me a side handle on the left which has a hot shoe on and I mounted my phone on top of the camera (as a field monitor) and mounted my aperture AL-M9 LED on top of the side handle.

@@CreativeConnor the minimalist side handle and phones set up is very lightweight and having two handles to share the load is key. The Neewer cage (with iPad Mini and mic.) Is heavier but having two side handles helps plus it comes with s pair of 15 mm rods underneath so I rigged up a sponge pad on the rear of the rods as a support stock

Thanks Jake 😎 the grip is really deadly! I love it to bits couldn't imagine not having it on all the time 😂 it's expensive though! Mine was bundled with the G9 when I bought it!! I got lucky with that! A nice camera strap and the battery grip is a slick combo for usability out and about! Top handles are nice to have! All mine are cage attach only 😒

Connor Dunne you have no idea how much I fought myself when I bought it. It was one of those Sammy’s Camera pay no tax days. I hated myself after I bought it for weeks but you know what? It’s been on my camera ever since. I have a voigtlander 17mm and the 12-35 that I don’t touch anymore because the Leica is so good and the manual clutch ring is a game changer.

I love my G9, as a travel hybrid shooter there is almost nothing like it out there. I didn't get the batterygrip as I shoot on the zhiyun weebill s often and the batterygrip throws the balance completely off due to the centre of gravity being higher. I did add the smallrig L bracket for more grip. I would love the atomos ninja v but it would add another €780 to my cost. Love the new HLG option (10bit 150mb/s) and autofocus is good lighting conditions has actually become reliable for me. I use the Deity D3 mic, excellent sound. My one lens I have on my camera is the 10-25mm lens. I opted for a one lens solution because of the gimbal. It just saves me so much time and I can get 90% of the shots I want with that lens.

Hi Connor. This might be a silly question, but I don't own a Ninja, so... When you connect the Ninja to the G9, all the settings for the frame rate, resolution, quality, etc are done by the Ninja itself, right? You don't actually "record" anything using the G9 itself, right? In other words, it doesn't matter if the G9 itself is set to record at 1080p60 or 4K30 or set to use 4:2:2 .mov format or 4:2:0 .mp4 format, right? Thanks in advance!

hey Jonny! Nice to hear from you! The Ninja does all the work. The camera feeds it the settings via the HDMI output. So if the camera (like my A7iii) only has 8bit colour coming from the camera body to the ninja, then the ninja can only use 8bit.. you can't force the file to go 10bit as it's a camera limitation. Specifically answering your example the G9 needs to be in the correct setting in camera.. 4k 50p then via the HDMI settings out from the G9 in the menu you need to set it to give a 10bit 422 feed to the Ninja! So you're right in thinking the Ninja does all the work, but its input from the camera needs to be correct also 😎 Anything else my man?

Panasonic released a firmware update for the H-X015 model Leica prime lens (15mm) in March of this year as well as a firmware update for the G9 just a month later. It's practically unstoppable now. It pushed me to the point of buying another G9 body literally just so I can have my other prime (the 42.5mm) permanently affixed and I can simply swap between the two as I go around the city. Honestly the G9 lacks a contender for its price range.

yeah the 15mm prime from Leica is a gem. Used it to should some really good photos and videos under really bad lighting conditions and the results are still exceptional good. It's not good for all kind work though naturally but so much better than the 12-60 in dark conditions.

Interesting setup. I’m still experimenting with my G9. I have the small rig cage because I didn’t want to attach my 7” monitor with its own cage directly to the hot shoe. I have the boya shotgun condenser mic with the xlr cable to 3.5m jack. I’m pretty happy with this setup for mounting on a tripod. I’m using it for RU-vid tv show and I picked up a second G9 also for the show. I’m recording internally so the 29min limit is a pain. We shall see. I might rig up the second G9 differently although I have a battery grip for that one.

Now I got the 2 G9s I can do event photography. I have the cotton carrier for juggling the two. Also got the godox speed light. It’s the perfect hybrid setup. Might even do weddings. We shall see.

Great vids on the G9, and I have one and think it is amazing too. I also have the Rode Videomic NTG but seem to get a lot of low level hissing in the audio. The firmware is up to date, I have turned the camera setting to -12dB, turned off the in in camera limiter but I still get it. Whilst it can be corrected in post, obviously I prefer it to be clean to begin with, so I wondered if you had experienced this, or if there is anything you can recommend? Keep up the great work! Hey Michael! I don't have hissing .. my noise floor is very low and clean. But I did own 2 copies of the new NTG5 and had huge problems. See my video on it, it was awful. Rode acknowledged to a commenter that the NTG5 had a faulty board causing interference and hissing. Although my videomic ntg is clean.. I would not be surprised if they produced faulty ones due to my experience with the NTG5. If it's bad you should look into have it replaced under warranty. Sorry I don't have any more information than that. Let me know how you get on please 🤗

Yo shane! I don't have the VLOG L upgrade. I use the HLG on my G9 and Sony so I can work with them together a little easier!! The atomos recorders have built-in waveforms my man so you don't need your camera to be capable 😎

When I heard about the update I immediately thought about the Ninja V. I'd been going back and fourth between the XT30 + Ninja V, the XT3 and the new XT4. I've always thought the G9 had an impressive spec sheet, but without that 10 bit video it wasn't ever a contender. Now between that and the fact that I keep seeing used GH5's for under $1000 - it's only made the decision making process more difficult. Thank you for exploring the video centric side of this camera - what do think about the gx85 as a run & gun setup and the XT30 with a Blackmagic Decklink/Intensity 4k capture card? If I really needed to I could build something portable for that or upgrade to a Ninja V - I'm just thinking if I got an XT3 Id stop using my gx85, instead opting for a shoulder rig or gimbal setup with the Zhiyun Tech Weebill...

I use my G9 stripped down same as you, again it’s light and quick. However my GH5 I use in a cage rigged up with tilta nano and matte box, either for hand held or tripod mounted. As I use a ronin SC I match it up with the G9. Most of my audio is recorded separately and matched in post so no need for camera mounted microphone. Very similar views and set ups. Question.... other than the 12 to 60 what other lens you using? Reason I ask is I’ve just picked up the 14 to 140 and find it superb for most situations, it’s replacing the 12 to 60 on my GH5. Bit slow but quality image. Have enjoyed your videos so far and just subscribed.

Hi Connor! Thank you for a great video! I just wanted to check in for some further clarification. In an above comment you responded by saying that after 29 min of recording video that the g9 will just stop and you have to re-press the record button to continue recording. My question is,... although I understand that the G9 functions in that way, does recording out to the external recorder change that at all? So, if you’re recording to the ninja, could that bypass the 29 min limit and allow unlimited (or prolonged) recording time? Or even if recording externally, does the G9 still stop after the limit? Any thoughts or feedback in that regard would be appreciated!

Connor; I am in the process of buying a G9 and have one question. When you shoot videos with an external mike on the camera, can you hear any sound in the videos from the Exposure Wheel as you turn it? I saw another video on the Nikon Z6 where the exposure wheel clicking is so loud that it is picked up in its videos. I have learned a lot from your videos and have subscribed to your channel. Thanks

Hello can anybody help me? I have an issues, when I select MOV format and I choose 4k 30p 10bit (422) (150mbs) I record video and in camera it plays just fine. Then when I insert my SD card into my laptop I open and play it I see a slide show, the video is very laggy and it freezes a lot. I tried to open in in Premiere Pro same issue please help! Also i am using samsung pro 64 gb uhs 1/ "3" 95 mbs sd cards my prediction its my memory cards but yeah... =(

Always and forever! Manual 25p Shutter 50 (normally) for 4k 50p Shutter 100! Picture profiles are HLG and my ISO is as low as I can get it with my lights.. If i'm outrdoors I use a Tiffen Variable ND on the lens to control the light! F Stop on the lens ranges from F2.8 to F5.6

That thing is as big as a freaking truck. Cameras are cameras video, whatever. I tend to see cameras, more and more for video crap. The art of true photography is getting lost! Photo Shopping photos well beyond reality. To much video, it's like grunge to rock. We all know rock died. I shoot every second day. I just think the whole thing is kinda getting muddy. I see less and less good photography. Oh phones don't count, they just don't. Swiss army knives is all they are. Money can buy great equipment, but cannot give you talent.
