I started playing Ivion because I didn’t love Unmatched. It’s a similar game, but I like it quite a bit more.

Oda Nobunaga was a very violent daimyo during the Sengoku period of Japanese history. He helped lead to the unification of Japan that ultimately took place under Tokugawa Ieyasu and is a very interesting figure in Japanese history but once again it shows just how inconsistent board gaming is with regarding to historical people and events and board games. So Viking Raids and Oda Nobunaga is ok, but other themes like the old west and pirates are not.

I think it's a bias of recency in the case of the Wild West. Although it happened over a century ago, that's relatively recent from a historical standpoint. No idea about the pirates though

Hold up.The rulebook has lore about the characters?! It's a good thing these characters are actual historical people otherwise this would feel way too nerdy for me.

Oda Nobunaga is one of the most important characters in Japanese History, sort of on Par with Charlemagne in France. I did find it odd they went With Tomoe over Musashi, but sort of get it.

unmatched's unique art has always been one of main appeal. i can't be the only one who think the art has been steadily getting worse lately. i thought it was bad with teen spirit, but this set is even worse. compare this to the art from early sets, the difference is like day and night.

Each set has its own art style within the basic framework. There's a difference between bad art and art with a style you're not crazy about. I didn't love the style in Teen Spirit either, but I wouldn't say it was bad. But I really liked the art in King & Country. All that is going to be very subjective, of course.
