Thank you to all the officers and sgt for the professionalism and demeanour. Thank you TTA for highlighting this agency and the manager that was very disrespectful and ignorant. Respect to the Police Department and TTA from Canada!
The officers were great! They understood the law and remained professional, friendly, and cordial throughout the encounter. Special shoutout to Officer J. Brimmer, she went above and beyond to establish a rapport with the auditor and should be commended for her behaviour, she is a credit to her oath and the uniform! David Pope is the classic uninformed public employee. He assumed you don't need signs to restrict the public's movement, he assumed that everyone working for a public entity is a private worker, he assumed that capturing private information from a public vantage point is illegal, he assumes so many wrong things and can't fathom that his actions would be illegal and TTA's would be expressly legal. Once he discovered he was wrong he was unwilling to be professional, admit he was wrong, and apologise for his improper actions. I'd be interested in finding out who David Pope's boss is and asking them whether Mr Pope has the authority to unilaterally restrict areas of the office that previously were public.
David embarrassed himself and he’s just too ignorant of the law to realize it. This coupled with his fragile ego and a basic misunderstanding of his fundamental role- which is to serve the public earns him a big FAIL. Great job by the police officers!. No attempts at trying to railroad James out of there. Only issue I had is that they took the failure of a public tyrant to a private location to explain to him the law. Great job James, you’re a true patriot.
Let’s give some love to those officers. As you mentioned, respect starts at the top and this Sargent walked in and asked if you were doing a first amendment audit, you answered then no more questions from him. End of story.

David's not concerned about protecting anyone's private information. His intent is apparent given he tried to deny a member of the public the right to even access a public bathroom.
The officers did a fine job not to escalate the situation and to give an education. Kudos to all of them. I just can't recall saying THAT very often. Hopefully, that can be said more often in the future.
At least the officers understood. Congratulations, officers, for respecting this mans rights! I'd love to hear the follow-ups on some of these videos and reports.
David Pope is terrible. He needs fired, frankly. Looks like he's in charge! And that perfectly explains the terrible google reviews. Crap runs downhill, so they need to remove that guy.
Shout out to the amazing officers that respected my first ammendment right. And a big thanks to my TTA brother for his bravery to affirm the rights that make this the best country in the world!

I really appreciate what you are out there doing.. it’s refreshing to see an American citizen challenging these officers and public officials and educating them on our 1st amendment rights.. and it’s crazy how once they find out they’re wrong with their interpretation of the law they can’t just say “thank you I didn’t know that “ and then apologize That’s crazy to me! And the receptionists leaving early left the front desk unattended. Causing the man coming in after the officers arrived, got no one to help him when he walked up.
Yeah James is the coolest of the cool. Calm and assertive. I'm really starting to get tired of some of these other auditors who are just so freaking obnoxious and antagonizing... They really make the auditing community look bad some of these guys.
I like how these cops just stood there listening, without interrupting. So many cops just loves the sound of their own voice, and isn't very good listeners, so they interrupt all the time, and doesn't want to listen. Looking forward to see the body cams of the cops who went into the office, if they are doing the usual "Unfortunately..."-routine or not.
I WANT A REVISIT AND MAKE THEM TAKE DOWN THOSE SIGNS AGAIN BECAUSE ALL SIGNAGES SHOULD BE PASSED BY THE BOARD OF THAT PUBLIC OFFICE AND BE PUT INTO WRITING WITH ALL LEGALITIES. THEY CAN'T JUST PUT SIGNS WHEREVER THEY WANT.

If taking pictures in public without permission of everyone in public was illegal, it would cause every teen and young adult posting duck lip selfies in jail... we don't have the funds, workforce, or ice-cream to handle that demographic of incarcerated people.

These cops are a good example of how to be impartial. They didn’t have their minds set on violating your rights. I also love the way you keep your cool. I need to learn from you on that. I know it’s all about education. You sir are educated and have a great understanding of our rights.
