54 total AI in the scene including soldiers, creatures, turrets, and drones - plus exploding barrels and mines. I think the FPS dropped into the upper 20s at worst. For my game, there will rarely be more than 5 AI active at once, so this is looking good to me.

Stress test is right! I was stressed just watching that entire mix of 50+ baddies v an army of one. Well done mate!

Thanks man! That was a lot of fun for sure. I spent some time after dinner and made a faction system for soldiers, creatures, drones, and turrets so now I can easily set up some pretty dynamic warzones. :D

that was way too stressful, my bpm is over 120 just watching that. all jokes aside this looks great man. ive been messing with AI in unity, and ive got about 64 ai running around (albeit a lot simpler than yours, they dont fight back but react to attacks and find an escape route). the hitman series does an interesting thing with their bots, especially in huge crowds, where there will be one fully functioning ai, with a group of say like 10-15 simplified ai that just sort of parrot their reactions and such. it seems like a great way to save a bit on calculations, but im not so sure it would be THAT great in this particular use case, where each ai is actively targeting the player and stuff

LOL yeah it was intense trying to get an interesting video and not dying in the process. LOL In my newest stress test video, I had to be in God mode to record anything worth watching. Even with health set to 1000 it was hard to stay alive. I come from Unity/C# so I wrote my AI using blueprints the same way I used to do it. Behavior trees are okay I guess, but very difficult to troubleshoot IMO. For a war level or stress level like this I need all the AI to be functioning 100% but that's a good idea about having a way to select what parts of the AI are needed and being able to turn them off if the AI is more in the background. The best part of using BPs for this compared to BTs is that I can more easily control what's ticking. Thanks for watching. :)

@@DavidNGoodman yes! thats awesome. hitman utilized it in areas where there would be crowds of 100+ npcs meddling about. those npcs were just civilians (from what i understand), so they never had to directly interact with the player. if the "leader" npc was spooked, then the other dumbed down npcs would scatter, and that indirect interaction was believable enough. looking forward to seeing more from you!

@@premo8564 I do have a separate AI system in mind for NPCs that should be a lot more lightweight than the combat models. I appreciate you watching and chatting!

The MGs did a good job. I really think the drones are great. They remind me of Metal Gear Sold 2. Good job. I haven't gotten around to working on my game for 10 days

I am trying to create a sort of open world, giant monster/kaiju survival game but I only have experience with unity, do you have any tips or directions on what to do?

I came from Unity also. Knowing how to form pseudo code will help a lot if you're going to learn blueprinting. I don't have specific tips, but I can tell you that I spend a couple months learning blueprints from YT, LinkedIn Learning, and experimentation before I tried to do much else in UE.

Looks great. Can I ask you about that jump animation when he holds with the hand below, was that included in the package or you did that yourself? If you did, can you point me somewhere how could I do it :D thanks

The vaulting anim? That's part of the asset.

Do you have advice to optimize ? My game lag with 15 AI even there are not too much BP calls..

There aren't really any shortcuts, but keep draw calls low, batch static meshes, use simpler materials if possible, limit the use of moveable lights, disable tick wherever possible, etc.
