Welcome to Upside Down,
today I'll show you how to create Unreal Engine 4 Decals. We are going to use 3Ds Max for the base setup, Zbrush for creating the high poly and Substance Painter for baking the normal map.

It's all nice and dandy, but how to create abnormal decals that is the question

thanks, you can invert the green channel on your normal map and it will become abnormal. Maybe you ment something else :)

Say, i want to have a normal decal like this but ALSO in the crevaces of the normal add roughness and color to act as dirt. would that work?

great. but the decal box casts a shape around the normal effect. There must be a way of doing this without having the shape of the decal box also visible

I was just using alphas with this material method already but have the same problem with the box being slightly visible. Not really sure how to fix that yet.

Hi! First of all thx for the great tutorial. Is it possible to blend these normal map decals somehow? I'm trying to make a Moon surface, and my craters are made this way, but can't find a way how to merge the decals when they are close to (overlap) each other.

as far as i know- not in a proper way.. but You can import opacity mask or create it- for example: take blue channel from normal-> one minus blue channel -> multipy it by 20 or 50 or something around (experiment with it) -> clamp it. it will mask parts where normal is flat. then You can plug it to opacity. BUT it will still not overlay properly where normal exist so after clamping try to multiply it by 0.5 and then use it as opacity. you may need to bump normal strength.

@@UpsideDownTutorials I have an idea, you could made a some sorf of course on yt...it would be series of videos from bigginer to pro in ue4, and in tutorial you would include videos like this but mor in depth, I think you would be able to get more subs...keep doing your work it is beautiful more than my crush...you could make series like DevSquad Learning Hub but more in depth and yeah I think it would work...check his yt chanel to how he is doing series... othervies you are good...btw your style of doing videos is a little bit weird...I suggest you that you don't mix videos like blender, you make series on textures, then you make series on animations then you make series on weapon etc... so your wivers can find what they want to see...othervise keep up with your work man!

@@UpsideDownTutorials you start on biginning and finish on the end...I mean like this look at your chanel first if battle rat and then rope phyisics...you see? is mixed...So suggest you do like this: first you make ue4 from bigginer to pro tutorial series in depth, after this you make series on land 3d art in depth, how to make beach, how to make realistic envairment, map background, montes, forest, macadam roads, etc...then you go on buildings how to make houses, hoods, bridge, lighting, inside of buildings, etc...then you make gameplay series on animations, how to make enemies, weapons, interface menus, multiplayer...after that you make diffret series on games like fps game, 2d game, multiplayer game...you see now? yes of course it takes time but look on long term, Im online marketer in free time I do projects on ue4 but in online marketing you must always look in long term otherwise you wont make any sales...dont think only about money you must think even about costuner support, offers it self, valuedelivery, etc...so this is my opinion, now is your choise...this is only problem that I see on your chanel everything other is perfect...your content is better then my crush any and other thing I have seen but if you start today you will make you chanel bad ass, sick ass u4 content machine...so yeah keep your good work bro!

Thanks, your idea sounds great 👍 I actually started recording 3Ds Max series like that some time ago, so in the next weeks I should finish “season 1” if I may calm it that. But I did not had the idea for unreal one, so J think it can be great and I’ll put it into planning. Thanks again, much appreciate!
