As a writer I take the printed word very seriously, and I have a big problem with RU-vid's auto-captions. Yes, I spent the time to make corrections the text for this short video and there are probably still some mistakes in the CC, but I cannot do this for all the videos - just some of them. I hope people understand. Let me explain why....

I've noticed that RU-vid's auto-captions seem to be getting worse and worse. The line breaks are all wrong; it constantly repeats, misspells, or entirely skips over words; randomly Capitalizes certain Words but Not others; and likes to substitute "cuz" for "because" even when you clearly say the full word.

Hey Fran, I’m sorry for the rather disproportionate amount of issues that you seem to face in comparison to the average. As an end user of CCing (even the garbage auto translate I still find 5:16 quite useful.) I completely would understand why someone might have problems and be against it.) On behalf of myself and anytime else who feels what I’ve written is representative of their views as well; Thank you. Thanks for all of your contributions.

The voice-to-text software in my phone has definitely gotten worse over the last couple of years. It used to recognize when I call for punctuation such as a comma, period, or question mark; it used to print the symbols (, . or ?) but now it simply prints the words. It also repeats entire sentences and prints them twice in a row.

I feel like both the voice to text and typing assist (whatever the thing that helps us type with huge fingers on tiny screens) are working worse than in previous years! Maybe bringing AI onboard before it’s ready?

I was going to say the opposite, I've found that the auto-captioning for when I upload my own video is more accurate than it was earlier. But I also haven't uploaded in a year and a half so perhaps it's gotten worse again.

I turned on closed caption on this video and for the most part it was spot on with the translation. I thought it did a great job translating this videos audio to text.

Another problem I've run into several times: I was watching a long form video from a channel I'm subscribed to and I got a notification that another channel I'm subscribed to had posted a video which turned out to be a Short. I watched the Short and left a comment about it, and then when I went back to the other longer form video that I had been watching, I found that my comment had posted there as well!

Just when you switch between shorts sometimes comment section from a previous short gets stuck and appears under a new one

I've been noticing captioning getting hilariously wrong recently. Unless the author add their captioning as titling in editing, it's often just plain wrong.

Sorry if I am writing like autocaptioning, I can't see this. However, the font in the autocaptions in the video is large enough for me to read, so I'm kind of wondering why it is there if you disable. I'll also say that for once, it did a very reasonable job.

Fran said she manually edited the captions for this video. This is the exception, most other videos don't have captions enabled.

I strongly disagree with your view on the auto-captions. "You have your own app." Yes. It's called the crappy google auto-captions. The point isn't that the captions are perfect, or that I think the text created is anything but an interpretation of what you say (and susceptible to homophone confusion among many other flaws). The point is that it's an accessibility tool, and by saying "these are bad," you've decided that you're fine with the videos being less accessible.

Fran , love the stream but I don't do shorts . Probably because I have an attention problem where shorts don't go in I'm older than 40 🤣. So need input not clickbait, but if it boosts the stream . More power to you hun

I've always suffered with dysfunction noticeably on word spelling & sentence structure from elementary school on.. Never was diagnosed!!! But just about everything worked out Ok in my life!! Bless all who read this.. 👍🙂🙏🏼

Hi Fran. A Philly accent? I don't really notice anything specific, and i certainly know your voice on the Shorts. Strange comments, i suppose. Also, FYI, this video has Closed Captions. Mostly accurate, at least until near the end. 😃

What about your Philly accent? To me, European, there are two American accents. Southern and non-southern. You are in the category "easy to understand"
