I think he wasn’t a defensive player and now that they have KD,the pressure is on Ayton to figure things out defensively and he still isn’t there yet… being defensive is harder than being offensive in my opinion takes a lot of strength physically and mentally , you gotta put respect on defensive players

I mean he played better this game even if the box score doesn't show it definitely a better showing when he battled for 3 offensive rebounds in the first possession of the game

He’s going against arguably the best player in the league, also he’s not looked to be a primary scorer in this series. The Suns have won a lot of games over the years with Ayton having a mediocre stat line. A couple of errors but that’s seems inevitable when you’re told to guard the best player and do all the dirty work

I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be for Ayton’s teammates to know what he is capable of and still see him play in slow motion and super soft. Not too sure why Booker was going off on Ayton. If Ayton decided to guard Murray, Murray would just pass the ball to Jokic who had a wide open lane. Okogie was behind Murray so it was up to Booker to help defense on Murray and then Ayton guards Jokic. Booker is at fault here, not Ayton. After Murray left Okogie in the dust, it was basically a 2 on 2 with Booker and Ayton against Murray and Jokic. Booker then proceeds to watch Ayton trying to take on both Murray and Jokic (1v2). What is Ayton supposed to do?? Booker should be yelling at himself for that mistake, not at Ayton.
@indamaking
@indamaking 11 месяцев назад
DA committed too much to Joker, he took an extra step back towards the left when he should have straightened his position to face Murray while still having Jokic in his peripheral (by placing the right foot behind the left). You don’t commit to Murray, you make sure he doesn’t take advantage of the weak side (which he did). You continue to guard Jokic as well by keeping an active left arm and leg. The step he took to the left allowed Murray to blow by and finish at the rim easily
@novathepug6692

Booker did give help defense, but Murray recognized it and stepped towards Ayton. Booker was guarding the wing and leaving his man too aggressively would give Murray an easy pass to a wide open wing 3, or corner 3 if Payne picks up the man on the wing and the wing man kicks it out 🤷🏽‍♂️

@zackrodriguez7519
@zackrodriguez7519 11 месяцев назад
You can clearly see Durant coming over to help on the potential pass to Jokic. Booker, who I'm assuming is guarding KCP (a KNOCKDOWN shooter) is only one pass away from a 3. It's like asking someone to help off Klay Thompson or MPJ; you're asking to give up 3 points. Ayton had to step into Murray and cut off that drive, and if the pass is made to Jokic KD is already there to guard that. He blocked Jokic a couple of times this series, so it wouldn't be guaranteed points. But instead Ayton just backpedals and decides at the last second to jump at Murray, giving up the and one.

Some of these players are only there for a paycheck doing the minimum work. Some of them are not interested in contributing to a team seeking a deep run into the playoffs and winning championships. Defund the players and start paying them by piece work. He makes $33 million dollars a year, he's ready for off-season vacations spots. To much money and not enough desire to excel. 13.2ppg, 9.7reb, 1ast, in the post season is not going to cut it.

Dawg, these are PROFESSIONAL nba players. Basketball is like a religion to them. When the stakes are at their highest, emotions are too. But the team understands that A. Booker doesn't actually think Ayton is a bitch or any of that. B. Booker is arguably the best player on the team, and he's probably exhausted, so when he doesn't see you giving his level of effort he's going to have a problem with it. You are supposed to understand that and start giving it more heart and effort. And C. Ayton is SUPPOSED to be mad at what booker is saying to him. Have you ever had a coach just absolutely rip into you and call you all sorts of things? They know exactly what they're doing. It lights a fire inside of you and you go out there and play aggressive and with force. I remember Jayson Tatum telling a story about how Coach K (a very highly respected coach) just completely laid into him and cursed him out for an entire halftime after JT scored 0 in the first half of a college game. JT then went out there and dropped like 20 in the second half. That's what booker is really trying to bring out of Ayton, that DAWG in him.

@@mthomson213 he’s not an afterthought. Hes only elite when he CHOOSES to be. He’s gotten the ball multiple times in the paint against a guard and missed layups instead of going for easy dunks. He refuses to post up small ball defenders. There’s a reason he’s sat on the bench most of the past 2 games.
