Coming from a suns fan I was screaming at the TV when we picked Ayton instead of Luka and what makes it worse is that it was a 50/50 between them because we needed a big or a point guard

@@Vagabundo74 , I saw the clip about him playing for his next contract, and it looked like he said that before he got this max contract. Weird that they don't have verbiage in the contract that states that if he gets a certain amount of hours, he needs to average a certain number of points and rebounds to get paid the max. Crazy that he can get paid, and literally not try anymore. He used to be a good rebounder, and could score 20 a game with little effort, also blocks. But I noticed that his rebounds began to be way below 10 a game.

This was the Suns fault. The previous owner was from Tucson and as a homer he went with the UofA guy. If you go look at all of the scouting reports on Ayton back in 2018 leading up to the draft, all of his weaknesses were well documented and they are in full display for everyone to see. They said he takes plays off on defense which is painfully obvious, he was a poor shot blocker which he is, he settled for jumpshots instead of establishing good post position for better opportunities which he does, he did not have a nose for the ball which is still true. He needed to be drafted to a team with excellent player development coaches for bigs which the Suns do not have. Ayton should have never been the top pick because lofty expectations come with that and they are way over Ayton’s abilities. The Suns made the huge mistake and are now paying for it. I really hope they get something at least decent for him.

Watching him play in person is depressing. Such an imposing figure on the court but he’s almost as soft as Charmin. He has tiny flashes of greatness but those rare moments are completely overshadowed by his lack of physical play and attitude.

Man I use to think he was a great player for the Sun's until this last series against Denver 😒 Idk what happened to him ... He was playing like as if he was throwing the game. The Sun's last year seemed that way too against Dallas in thier playoff series. I don't understand why the Sun's manage to F'up the playoffs everytime they go. I mean I've been a die hard Suns fan since I've been a kid and drafting Ayton in 2018 ruined my weekend when I was at one of my best friends weddings. My boys said "ohh you're overreacting" but I literally said that Mikal would be a better pro than Ayton. It makes no sense that we took a guy that did ok in PAC-12 vs a dude that dominated the 2nd best league in the world in Doncic. Ayton analysis was "good footwork" predraft but I was not buying it at all. He did great Vs bums but his defense wasn't anywhere close to where it should be for a guy his size. I said it after the 2020 finals run after he was out played by a combo of Brook Lopez/Portis that we should trade him. Last summer I was hoping we'd get something like Okongwu who was stuck behind Capela but was an actual physical big man that can protect the rim with like Kevin Huerter but now this summer it's going to be very tough to get a decent return on him. Landsdale showed that we really can play with just someone that's 7 feet and plays with passion. For the Suns to capitalize on KD-Booker, CP3 needs to retire or take a major major paycut and Ayton needs to go!! This team needs guys that can hit shots in the corners and a legit big. God help us!! Suns also gave up wayyyyy too much for KD. All those unprotected picks at end of the decade with the runner up DEF player of year annnnnd Cam??? Cam Johnson is exactly what this team was missing. Yeah that was pretty bad. Here's my rebuttal: You can't take someone out of the game and expect them to stay in the game, especially a young person. You said "he's a #1 pick and expected to be a franchise player. Now with KD in the fold they only want him to rebound, play some d, set screens, and hit an occasional post up." You're right, that is a job for Looney. Ayton needs to be utilized as more of a focal point. In the 2021 season he played incredibly well and did a lot to help them reach the finals. If CP doesn't disappear they win it. I don't fault them fire going after KD but that stifled Ayton's growth tremendously. 1) I think we'll see what he truly is now that he's in Portland, and 2) No one is softer than James Harden.
I feel like he's basically the same player as John Collins. For his career Collins is averaging 16 PPG, 8 RPG, 1.5 APG, and 1 BPG, Ayton is averaging 16 PPG, 10 RPG, 1.5 APG, and 1 BPG. Not bad, but not worthy of a #1 overall pick.
You do realize that Jokic was playing mental warfare with Ayton. He said that so Ayton would coast even more. Which is exactly what he did. After that “compliment” from Jokic, Ayton stopped improving. By the time the Suns played the Nuggets in the playoffs, Ayton was a shell of his former self, which wasn’t even that good to begin with. The suns should have never switched him to Center, people forget Ayton played Power forward in college and was extremely dominant at the position. He just can’t hang and be physical with centers today.
