Carmelina is desperate to sell her three-bedroom bungalow so she can return to school…But the property’s been on the market for a month already, and no one’s biting. Sofie says in spite of the home’s charm potential, its mish-mash flooring, oversize furniture (and fish tank), grimy kitchen, and unfinished DIY jobs are a major turn-off for families and first-time buyers.
In order to put some love back into the lifeless property, Sofie comes up with a $4,500 plan for an update with plenty of sparkle. Carmelina is convinced about the changes from the start. And as Anthony and the team neutralize the décor, install uniform flooring, and improve curb appeal, Sofie gives Carmelina tips on presentation, and gives her a hand with cleaning the house from top to bottom. The results are outstanding…

Sophie is a good teacher, showing her clients a sample house. I keep watching these because she’s a good designer but she’s also positive. She doesn’t make fun of anyone. I’d love to see her do something know because the style is older now. Love to see what she’d do with newer styles

Are we watching the same show? She's snarky and snippy as soon as she walks in the door. I know most of that's scripted, but it comes across as a smart-azz. Many of these homeowners are at their wit's end, have had some sort of recent trauma, and most don't want to move but need the money. What they don't need is a bunch of adolescent jabbing at their home and living conditions.

Anthony is a designer in his own right. He seems to make a lot of design decisions with floor, entrance way. Later episodes, the contractor teaches DIY but design is mostly done for him. The entrance he made looks so good in the pictures of Sophie sitting in the living room with it behind her.

We just sold a beautiful house that we'd built 4 years ago. I kept the house immaculate and nicely staged for showings and the first person who saw it bought it--several days before it was officially put on the market. We bought a less expensive home to cut our mortgage way down (from $229,000 US dollars to $110,000 US dollars and a 15 year mortgage from a 30 year one). It looked fine on the surface--but wasn't clean--and had been staged nicely. After we moved in I had to really scrub it. It took 6 hours just to clean the front entryway and hallway. The bathrooms were gross. It was a filthy diamond in the rough. We're now updating it and it should look almost like new within a few months.

Damn, the seller needed a stranger with a camera to tell her to clean her house? And it's a shame that during 8 years, the seller didn't do what ultimately amounted to cosmetic changes to make it nice for HERSELF. She seemed amazed at what paint and new flooring did, when she could have had it like that the whole time and enjoyed the house more.

When I was young back in the early 80's "Move in Ready" was a totally different standard. If the roof didn't leak, the plumbing, heat, and electrical worked, it was "Move in ready". Now kids expect to buy a decorator house. No wonder so many Millennials think they can't afford a house.

We bought a very ugly home, with outdated kitchen and bathroom, ugly wallpaper, and pink carpet everywhere, but it had: 1. The square footage we wanted. 2. A nice layout - good bones 3. What does she have against dogs?! Just because she doesn't like doesn't matter, the dog bed stays. Sophie get a life. People have pets. The green in the master bedroom is hideous, in another episode she complained about the color blue and now she paints blue for a bedroom? Neutral color lady, aside from grey's. Cream, beige, taupe but not Green. Stop "injecting" your personal color choices.

you can buy a mansion in Arkansas for that much, or an overhead apartment and business on main street Jonesboro, Arkansas. For real.

Gristle Von Raben Yeah, I wonder if there aren't areas like that in Canada, too...towns with low cost real estate that aren't crime-ridden or terribly depressed, or so far north that you'd freeze to death most of the year. I regularly check real estate prices in places that I might want to retire to someday. The Carlolinas, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, etc. all have lots of nice towns with extremely cheap but still nice houses and very low property taxes. Most have tax bills that are only a tiny fraction of what I pay for the dubious privilege of living in New York State.

Haha right? In 2014, we bought our 2500 square ft 4 bedroom 4 bath 1 acre home in Lancaster County, PA for $285,000 then sold it in 2019 for $316,000. We moved to a 1400 square ft house on 5 acres with a 3000 sq ft barn, chicken coop, wood shed & 3 acres fenced in pasture in rural York County, PA for $260,000. The price of the home in this video makes me nauseous

Its a shame that people spend lots of money to fix up a house to sell, The new buyer will change things to fit their needs and wants.

While it is true that the buyer will change things to fit their needs and wants, if you don't stage a home they can see themselves in you won't be able to sell.

Nobody would pay market price for the house in the condition it was in, therefore, spending money to make necessary repairs and maintenance and give rooms a fresh paint and new flooring if needed is what it takes to sell. When you weigh the outcome in the balance, either you want to sell and do what needs to be done to accomplish that, including putting in the necessary work and money) or you don't sell at all or for a price offered by a house flipper who will invest $5,000 and sell the property for $20,000 more in a month or two. When done correctly, investing in repairs, maintenance, and updating the appearance of an interior is paid back in a larger purchase price.

That's small change ($) to invest in making a house sellable. Doesn't matter what a buy does with it. The point was to get it sold.

That was an ugly choice for the laminate floors, it should have been a medium tone common to that type of home. If it's a cheap grade of laminate -- and it was, judging from the cost for the entire house -- it could scratch easily. It will also show lint and dust. That place looked like the owner didn't even try to prep it for sale.

@@JulieWallis1963 If she can have a show where she is rudely criticizing homeowners then she is fair game. And did you criticize everyone else that did not leave positive comments? Colors would look good on her with her skin and hair color unlike some people that wear red lips with flaming red hair. Now THAT was intentionally rude. 😁
