I have the same bike but the black one. I was able to replace the seat and keep the seat flip up mechanism. My husband has the mars and it is definitely lighter then the ranger. Bracks are less noisy too and for some reason more stopping power. I got the ranger just for the step through. Still really good for my first ebike.
STep-through makes it heavier, as the frame requires more bracing. The cast wheels make it heavier, as well as the more powerful motor and bigger battery pack.
Hey, if it’s ok with you, could you email me about how your husband got the seat off? I’m struggling to do it myself because the bolts are on so tight. I want to replace the seat but keep the tilt mechanism like you did
Not sure if they are the same key, but my Heybike Mars has two extra keys. The key is a 1642 ILCO blank. Heybike does not sell keys, so a real locksmith can cut a new key with that blank. You can buy the blanks on line if your locksmith does not carry that blank. Bring the battery to make sure it works !
Good review. Don't you think you could remove the battery (probably 15 lbs) and the front tire to get the weight down for those that need to put the bike into a trunk?
Yes, good thinking on the battery. Seat post too. Front wheel is a no-go, as eric said. It's doable if you have a taller area, as in an SUV or even hatchback car, but in a sedan? Forget it. I could do it in a pinch, but my back would hurt for a week afterwards.
Good point about being abandoned after purchase. I know all ebikes are basically from Asia but even some of those American based companies dont have good customer service when it comes to helping you with issues.
Good point! On that topic: these 3 electric bike companies offer ebikes that are Made in the USA - Outrider USA out of Fletcher, NC, Electric Bike Company out of Costa Mesa, CA, and Hi-Power Cycles from Chatsworth, CA.
Excellent review, thank you! I know the specs say up to 6'3, but do you think a 6'5 rider would still have enough leg range of movement to make it comfortable (mostly for flat city roads)? Thanks again!
Definitely not! I'm 5'8" tall with a 30" inseam and I can't even get full leg extension. When they say it will accommodate someone up to 6'3, I think they just mean his legs won't hit the handlebar; it certainly wouldn't be efficient pedaling. Then again, if you want efficient pedaling, this is not the right bike.
I've got a Brooks B67 (the basic sprung model) on it now. Big improvement, but I like the "Grean" saddle for $20 at Amazon even better. (that one's on my Sailnovo)
It was between 3 e-bikes ... this one the Heybike Ranger; the Vtuvia SF20 (man I really like the Shiny Red paint Job), and the WTVA Hebe 1.0. I eventually went with the WTVA Hebe (Heybike Ranger only comes in 500w motor). Anyway I just received it a couple of days ago. The main reason 750w motor and the mag wheels and reviews of many people spoke about how fast it is *(some even complained how fast it is)* ... and yes it's fast. So far top speed on the display stated 29 mph throttle only but the speed app on phone stated 39 mph. Going to test for accuracy today to find which one is telling the truth. *Just an FYI ... the front wheel does not look like it is on correctly - I see a gap at **1:37**, and the frame is not fully resting on the axle. I see a potential accident in your future if you don't fix that!* TU on the video!
The pedals on the Ranger have stopped squeaking, but the brake screech is worse now. I zip-tied a milk crate to the rack; it is SO handy. Nice in the summer to put the backpack in there and not have a sweaty back all the time. I put a Brooks B67 saddle on it too.
@@Smaug1 Yep I here when they start to squeak its time to install hydraulic breaks. Anyway after just a few days of riding I did pinch a back tire tube causing a flat. After repairing the flat and some research (many YT videos) I decided to add FlatOut, which is quick & easy to do. It was this video showing test results that help me decide ... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--X0y-2AsGRk.html .... So far doing OK ...
Well, it's either the longer stem or you're OK with extending it out past the minimum insertion line. Or, we have a different idea of "full leg extension." (there's supposed to be a *slight* bend in the knee at full extension, and people have different ideas of what "slight" means.) Cheers!
Great video. I am worried about riding in rain. The main reason is that if the cables come up through the bottom, water may get into the controller. Are the connections/openings sealed.
I purchased the Ranger, and noticed brake noise after several rides. You mentioned that Heybike gave you information on how to address that issue. Would you have time to share your information.
I can forward the email chain if you somehow can get me your email address. Maybe reply here with it broken up, I'll confirm and then you can delete it?
I have a Heybike Ranger, and over the winter, I pulled the battery and stored it in the house. Now I'm having a problem with the bike shutting off when the battery reaches 88%. I have recharged the battery fully, and still, 88% is the point where it shuts off. Is anyone else having the same problem?
I would reach out to heybike support. They were pretty responsive when I contacted them about the screeching brakes. Sounds like maybe the pack is worn out so when you charge, it won't get to its full voltage. I don't remember, but does this bike show the battery pack voltage on the display? If so, it should be around 56 V when fully charged. If it's not getting there, you probably have a bad cell which is preventing a full charge. Let me know what heybike says; I'm curious now.
Warning you can’t find a parts list or parts for the bike. Yeah you can get a seat or bell but replacement chain brakes and rotor, things like that can’t find it
@@davidh8293 Hi David I’m trying to find break pads and I just returned some that didn’t fit. No one has an answer for me yet, not even Haybike and they are not all the same parts trust me on this. So I ask again as I have with others ,if anyone knows what break pads fit the HEYBIKE MARS please help me your my only hope. Thanks 😊
@@kcamredroostermike9263 sure. I get you. I just can’t imagine that Heybike is using some proprietary brake pads. You’d think they’d be common. Just saying.
@@davidh8293 I know David I said the same thing but I called and I emailed them no answer yet I even asked for a parts list, Nothing. The bike is well built but parts are going to wear out I want to be prepared. That should have come with a Thousand dollar bike hell even a child’s tricycle comes with a parts list🤷🏾♂️
Good review! Thanks! Any body out there own one of these where it rains a lot? Contemplating one of these and wouldn’t intentionally ride in the rain, but, more than likely would get caught in it. Will it last in such a climate?
I decided that I'll TRY to avoid riding in rain, but when I eventually get caught in it, I'm not going to worry. I got caught in the rain a couple times; one time quite a heavy rain; it was fine. I think heybike is just trying to avoid warranty claims from people trying to ride it through streams and getting the whole bottom of the bike submerged. (the battery contacts are at the bottom...)
You mentioned the top speed you got but not the range of this 15Ah battery. How far have you gone on a charge, and what were the conditions? I’m torn between the Mars and the Hyper for myself, and cost independent, the biggest differences are the wheels and the size of their batteries. Thanks.
Range varies widely depending on how you ride it. When I ride it at 21 mph pedaling with a decent effort (a few small hills) I get about 20 miles until the battery gauge is down below half. At that point, the power loss is noticeable, which means it needs recharging now to impact the life of the cells. When I ride it 13 mph, pedaling, I get about 30 miles. If you go top speed with throttle, expect 15 miles or less. (you can't reasonably pedal fast enough to assist the motor at top speed) At 10 mph, I can get 40+, but at that point, I'm doing most of the work; it only kicks in when I start to go uphill. FWIW, I wouldn't buy this bike again. I'd buy the Lectric XP 2.0, especially now that it has a 14 Ah battery pack. (based on my experience with my Lectric XP Lite) The quality is better and the tires are not as fat. The screeching brakes really get annoying and you can't get used to it. The pedals squeak too; poor quality. The stock seat is not good either. I might expect this on a $500 eBike, but not a $1400 one.
It would take some dedication to steal it, and with lots of people walking by at the supermarket. I just use a U lock through the frame and figure that's going to make someone look at the next bike. Plus, the bike is 72 lbs. It's going to be hard to lift and without the key it's not a nice bike to ride. ;-) If all else fails and it gets stolen, I'd just claim it against my homeowner's insurance.
Oftentimes, eBikes with 250 or 350 W motors will be Class 1 or 2 only, topping out at 20 mph. They have to be geared lower to pull well. The 500 W motored eBikes often go up to Class 3 speed. (28 mph when pedaling) My wife's bike (Electra Townie GO!) has only a 250 W motor and 36 V battery, but it does just fine, because it's Class 1. (20 mph max, pedal assist only) My Lectric XP Lite has a 350 W motor and is Class 2 and it does just fine, too. (20 mph, throttle or pedal assist) If you have time, watch my reviews on the Aventon Level.2. I sold the Ranger and bought a Level.2 and I touch on the reasons why.
My Heybike arrived damaged. They want to send me the parts, have me buy the tools and fix it myself. I looked up reviews and that's their policy. Good luck if it arrives broken, worst customer service ever.
Are you sure? I told them that the DIY fix they asked me to do didn’t work and they sent me a new battery which fixed my issue. Total time was around a week and a half that the bike was down
Yep, I wound up also buying a Lectric XP Lite, which is a lot lighter, but not quite as fast. (46 lbs. instead of 72 lbs.) I do miss the fenders and rack this model has, though.
I'm not too crazy about folding bikes cuz I never had one when I was growing up I had regular bikes so the regular Hate by might be my answer but still I wish it was made right here in the America not some other country American made by American man or a woman
Yeah, I wish that too. These 3 electric bike companies offer ebikes that are Made in the USA - Outrider USA out of Fletcher, NC, Electric Bike Company out of Costa Mesa, CA, and Hi-Power Cycles from Chatsworth, CA. They probably all cost more, though.
We have two different hay bites once folding bike and the other ones regular bike why can't they have both bottled water holder on the bike number two why can't they have that tires on both sides instead of the folding bike and number three why can't hey buddy be different colors of your choice and one more thing why can't hate bikes be made right here in the United States instead of somewhere else and a lot of people will agree with me on that one it should be made here in America then we'll have American people buying these kind of bikes for now have a blessed day and always wear your bike helmet
