It's funny you brought up the back of the daycare lmao, I made up a rumour in school that if you let kyogre/groudon's overworked weather effects linger for many days then the rain or drought will spread till where the daycare is and the old man will go inside. Then you'd be able to go behind the daycare into a secret forest to catch jirachi. Yeah I was a bit too imaginative, I know.

I think Chimecho was programed to be an event Pokémon, then the idea was scrapped and he became a regular Pokémon (for this he is so useless)

The removed "Boarder" class was obviously meant to be the Border Patrol between Hoenn and Kanto/Johto. I mean the type of Pokemon they use (ICE) is clearly in reference to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Also big shoutouts for finally passing 1K!

It was such a pain in the butt to do eReader Pokémon stuff even when it WAS a thing in North America. Ruby and Sapphire came with a sample Pokémon Battle-e card for Gentleman Nils, and in order to scan it into the game (and therefore move those pesky trees out of the way of the door so you can go to the back room and fight him) you had to have a second GameBoy Advance with a link cable attached to your Pokémon Ruby or Sapphire. So you basically had to have a friend who was willing to lend you his eReader for a bit, or else you couldn't use it even if you DID have an eReader yourself. If you liked the battle, which had a one Pokémon and one move of each monster's moveset redacted on the card for mystery fun, you could buy a booster pack of more trainer battle cards, which also included a special "berry" card that allowed you to replace the placeholder "Enigma Berry" data with a completely new berry type unique to the card (including a name, graphics, and stats) that was never available in any later generations. Those particular berries are now lost forever to ancient Pokélore.

I think Chimeco was supposed to be Jirachi, or maybe a 2nd cute legendary. They both have to do with traditional japanese culture, Jirachi being Tanabata (a day on which you wish to a star, and then hang a wish-card in a bamboo ..stick..plant.. What is a single bamboo plant called anyway? And Chimeco strong resembles the wind-chimes you see in Japanese temples, where people also come to make wishes, often also by writing them down on cards to be hung up. They're also both cute, so if they're also both at the very end of the index, then, well, who knows?

Since Shellos and Gastrodon were planned for Gen 3, it’s possible that those cries may have been scrapped beta cries for those two Pokémon

For me the weirdest thing in the Unused stuff is in Sapphire: Team Aqua's Archie has a Togetic at level 17, that raises so many questions. Was Archie meant to be met earleir in the game? Why isn't this present in Pokémon Ruby for Maxie? Why a Togetic and nothing else?

i honestly can never Chimecho is from my favorite generation... the only reason i probably even remember it exists in the first place is because of its role in PMD2

I'm not sure if anyone brought this up yet, but the two unused cries are often speculated to be for Shellos and Gastrodon. Ken Sugimori said in an interview that they were going to be in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald but weren't implemented due to time constraints. I don't know in what order Pokémon are created in (if those WERE the cries intended for Shellos and Gastrodon, it's a bit odd that the cries were in the game before the sprites, don't you think?), but it makes a bit of sense. Pretty cool, huh?

The unused snow stuff makes sense. There was a snow town back in Gen 2 that never got used, as seen in the Spaceworld demo. They clearly wanted a snow-themed town way back in Gen 2, but it wasn't until Gen 4 that they finally added one. Wouldn't surprise me if they tried to add one to Gen 3 too, and it got cut for a similar reason as the Gen 2 snow town.

Fire Red/Leaf Green did the same thing and had boxes put in front of a door you couldn't access in the Sevii Islands. What pissed me off is that text appeared saying "there's a slight breeze around the boxes..." implying that it's a secret area you can unlock.

The first of the unidentified cries is actually just a higher pitched version of the cry of absol, likely to be an earlier cry meant for absol but it still might not be that considering gen one having charizard and rhyhorn's cries sound nearly identical

The only reason I remember chimecho is because James had one in the anime. Why does James get all the forgettable Pokémon? Carnivine, Wobbuffet, Cacnea, Weepinbell etc. I wonder if they know they’re forgettable so they put them in the anime?

index numbers represent the order in which the pokemon are created meaning that its perfectly normal to see ralts have a higher index number then the mons in the same route as it because it was made later on

The trees blocking the stairs in the old mans house does work after using the e-reader in Ruby/Sapphire. They released trainer battles and berries that you can buy in sets of 30. The games came with a card as well.

As for Chimecho I believe what I noticed growing up was every now and then you would see a few Pokemon from the next generation at the end of the game like one or two maybe five

I have those e-Reader Battle cards. Each card has a trainer with two Pokémon shown, and one mysteryPokémon. You need to have two GBAs (or use the add-on for the GCN) and a Link Cable. You scan one card, then are prompted to turn on the GBA with Ruby or Sapphire. You're taken to a room to his basement which is just a room with a battle mat and the trainer you scanned. Literally nothing gained from this except to practice your battle skills. No EXP, no items, and nothing else. Fire Red and Leaf Green had a similar feature with a cave where you scanned e-Cards for wild Pokémon to appear. If you were ever frustrated wondering why there were only Zubat in this cave and nothing else, this was why: you needed to scan them into the game.

+Pikasprey Yellow There is a warp point to the stairs in Sotopolis city that are blocked by trees, but you need to edit it with hacking tool, it leads to a room in which a man with a pink hat stands and when you interact with him, you only get bunch of question marks and the game crashes. The first unused cry sounds a lot like Latias, but it is theorized that they both belong to the Shellos line which was apparently originally planned for gen 3 for some reason

The stair blocked by trees in Sootopolis city was for 'Riley's Shiny Treeko Event'.

Maybe the guy with the plants in front of his staircase had realised that random people kept coming into his house unannounced and without permission and wanted some privacy.

When I was young, playing Pokemon Pearl, I used my master ball on a Chimecho. I actually forgot if I ended up getting that Palkia.

3:48 Theory: The overworld sprites were made first as placeholders and bases for how the Regis loomed. When they made the sprites for the dolls, they had made the designs for them, but perhaps didn't have enough time to change them (or maybe even forgot about the overworld sprites). That's just my theory
