Really interesting CTP technology. Could you explain key safety features for this pack? For example, how it mitigates thermal runaway and cell venting? Also, what is the fast charge time from 10% to 90% SOC?

1:45 255wh/kg is still not the end game. Battery can still improve to 500wh/kg in 5 years whereas gasoline cars had insignificant improvements in the last 100 years!

1/ Please give more technical detail. 2/ MG have just introduced lifetime warranties on the whole high voltage system from battery to motor. When will CATL follow suit? 3/ In places like Australia the charger network is very haphazard with remote locations and long distances and most chargers being quite slow. I would like to see companies like CATL to enter the charger network and install high speed chargers so EV owners can take advantage of the fast charging CATL batteries can provide. Currently in most places we can't so CATL saying you can get 500K's in just 12 minutes is irrelevant. There is nowhere to do that.
@rogersliu1200
@rogersliu1200 Месяц назад
Major Government BESS projects used CATL solutions that were worth more than 100 words. As for entering the charging network it has to do with your local inefficient government.
@DeveloperChris
@DeveloperChris Месяц назад
@@rogersliu1200 are governments supposed to create charger networks?
@rogersliu1200
@rogersliu1200 Месяц назад
@@DeveloperChris they need to approve it first. and look at most of the local gov projects with charging stations they just awarded to various different brands and solutions. Tell me how to get a network done. Businesses are here to make money not make your life easier. If your market si so small and scattered, who would build a network for you.
@DeveloperChris
@DeveloperChris Месяц назад
@@rogersliu1200 in some places I am sure red tape is a major blocker. But as you rightly say we are small and scattered. Which is why profit from selling electricity will struggle. Thats why a company like Catl could step in. Their primary profit is from selling the batteries. And in a place like Australia the market is a good market suppressed by the lack of good chargers.

There are no qilin packs in the market or in any EVs with 255 wh/kg in pack level energy density.with that kind of energy densities 100kwh pack will weigh 392 kg which has not been confirmed to be on the streets yet.all we know is that in 2024 zeekr 001 its qilin NCM 100 kwh pack has 165 wh/kg energy density;and 200wh/kg for 140 kwh NCM qilin version of it;meaning non of your packs have got no where near to your advertised claimed 255 wh/kg energy density,i assume you are doing this just for the sake of marketing and stock prices nothing more
@chryoko
@chryoko Месяц назад
agree, they must be using top of the range NCM chemistry at least 300Wh/kg at cell level to reach those 255Wh/kg at pack level, therefore with high Nickel and over 10% SiOx doped anode. And on a prismatic cell, there are high safety risks using such chemistry. That may explain why we do not see such pack yet on the streets. Personnaly, i do not want to drive and park such car ! Better stay with safer-cheaper LFP and fast charging specs.

Hello, can somebody please provide a picture showing what's inside a CATL CTP3.0 battery cell ? Is it a cheap oval-wound battery cell (enclosed inside a prismatic aluminum container), whose jelly roll is narrow (thus several meters long), thus unable to expel heath ? Is it a more expensive oval-wound battery cell (enclosed inside a prismatic aluminum container), whose jelly roll is wide (thus less than one meter long), thus more able to expel heath ? Is it a very expensive thick pouch cell (enclosed inside a prismatic aluminum container) that's made of many parallel stacked flat layers (cathode, separator, anode, isolator) able to direct-expel heat through the junction point of the many cathodes, and through the junction point of the many anodes ?

Design and sell battery packs for the oldest EV's, Nissan Leafs to start. Or design the pack and put it in the public domain to limit liability, so companies and hobbyists can build and install packs using your CTP 3.0 tech. An excellent implementation would reflect well on @CATL.

Not optimal : We can achieve better density with longer cells and side terminals saving space on the Z direction. Also the old fashion's jelly roll they still use is less durable than competitors stacking technologies ....
@chryoko

@@kenbehrens5778 YES, i do ! 😁Catl is heavily invested into the decade old VDA like format, thus kind of stuck with it (10s of billions $€ production lines). While other more optimised chemistry related cells formats have emerged in the meantime.

Im still looking at a way to install CATL cells into my Mitsubishi minicab miev EV Kei van, the australian converters will not tell you which brand the batteries they use and only give a one year warranty. I really want the capacity and safety of Catl cells.

An EV should be able to go at least 600km per a charge and average sedan EV should cost about $25,000. Then the game to compete EVs with ICE cars is truly over. I know this is possible with current EV technologies, and the price is also achievable.
@metricstormtrooper

I think you're asking too much, not that it's unachievable, but companies need to make profits to keep funding r and d and employing the best engineers.

with fast charging (eg. 15min for 10-80%), you doi not need to carry some expensive dead weight all year around. For a $25k BEV, you will get a 40 to 50kWh LFP pack at max that will allow you to drive 300 to 400 km. Therefore the need to get fast charging specs.

The BYD (#3 auto manufacturer world-wide) Seal sedan - equivalent to a Camry, Accord, Sonata etc with ~60 kwh battery starts at $25k. The Xaomi SU7 sedan equivalent to a BMW i3/ Tesla M3 starts at $30k. That's the reason for all the tariffs on EV/hybrids from China in countries dependant on legacy auto. It's fair tbh because if the same cars were made with union labor they would be more expensive. Not double 😂 but more. The same thing was done to Toyota, Honda, BMW etc and they capitulated and built factories in the Markets they intended to sell in. The difference now is that the biggest market is no longer America and Europe. The biggest market is in China. Building a factory in Mexico makes more sense for North America and in Eastern Europe for the Euro market imo. Toyota has agreed to use the BYD platform for its EVs and perhaps hybrids in the future so we will see some integration into the existing factories in North America.
