THE CHRISTMAS DIARIES: 7th day of ADVENT!!!
It's time to share our new theme for Christmas 2021 - the Lalande Christmas Toile! Andie has made stunning toile watercolours of the chateau, that we have put together to create decorations and giftwrap. This lovely toile inspired us to decorate a new tree in the entrance hall - but what to call it? The Tree de Jouy or Toile de Tree?!

It's that time of year again - CHRISTMAS AT THE CHATEAU has begun! Happy Advent!
Follow all of us as we get the chateau ready for a spectacular French Christmas.
Each day will be filled with decorating, cooking, gift buying, carol singing and discovering ancient Christmas traditions from around the world.

Those drawings/themes would look fabulous on a Canvas bag that you could then sell to the guests etc once they've finished buying your homemade produce/products and could be made into T-Towels too.

When you're using hedge trimmers to cut a thicker branch you must use the little half moon cutout on the lower part of one blade. Place the branch in the cutout and that locks the branch in that spot letting you make the cut without the branch sliding up the blade as you chop.

Love the fabric for making Furoshiki for wrapping gifts for underneath the tree! It can be reuse for years to come!

"Tree de Jouy" is my choice, simply because if you take out the "u" of the word, you get "JOY" which is often twinned with Christmas. I love Andie's pink toiles of Lalande! How amazing! And such talent!

I love how Stephanie & Philip disagree but this time Philip is right! He knows what he’s doing! The sap can leave sticky on the ceiling too so I wouldn’t want it to touch at all. And FYI, a good rule is 100 lights per foot of tree. It’s a lot but it’s perfect.

Normally, you would cut off from the bottom instead of from the top if it’s perfect like that one. Just saying, hugs and love from Texas! So so beautiful! I would like to add, if it isn’t already, that when doing the laminated decorations to use heavy laminating paper otherwise it may curl. I would suggest based on my experience with doing laminations projects to cut them out first, then laminate, leaving an edge to ensure they are sealed otherwise moisture could get in and cause them to ruin. Love the Christmas Diaries!

Mooi werk Andie. Groetjes uit Canada 🇨🇦 Philip you may wish to let the tree sit overnight, so the branches can fall. My brother owns a family Christmas tree farm, and this is the advice from him to let the branches fall overnight. I hope that where you got the tree from, they put a fresh cut in the tree stump. That’s so the tree can take in water a lot better.

Ooooh you should have coasters and nice ceramic ornaments made from the prints. I know too late this year but for next year and for your guests to purchase when they stay there. I always get a Christmas ornament on vacation (even in summer) so I can remember it every time we decorate the tree. Her artwork is amazing!

I worked for a Christmas shop. One year my tree was gold, white, pink, and green. I had angels, gold ice cycles, and white and pink braided garland. I decorated trees all year round using all kind of themes too. Your tree is so pretty, I really like the lights like that.

Wonderful inspiration ! Every Christmas I make felt decorations filled with lavender, mint and dried herbs from the garden. The perfume last a very long time and I am reminded of the gardens to come. Filling your ornaments with dried lavender would make exception gifts for the hollidays, maybe next year you should have more lavender, mint, meadowsweet and other tea herbs for Lalande herboristerie and tissane gift shops. Have a wonderful holliday one and all.

Andie’s artwork is beautiful. The art she did as coasters, if done on a smaller scale, would make beautiful stickers/seals for envelopes. Especially if paired with a Christmas card of one of her images. So many ideas, all featuring her beautiful drawings 💕

I LOVE your pink Christmas tree and all the different Christmas baubles on it!! I’ve done a pink and/or pink and cream Christmas tree for years. Rather than tinsel I use 1foot wide tulle in white with glitter on it and it’s stunning!! I adore all of Andi’s artwork and ornaments. And I’m not usually into antique ornaments, but the ones Philip found are stunning!!! And as an American I’ve never heard the word baubles used, but I love the word and the way Stephanie especially pronounces it!! Really loved this vlog!! 💝

1. So glad somebody figured out they have tools in the gardening shed!😄 2. Loving the arguments about how much they need to trim the tree. LaLanders - they’re just like us! 3. For some odd reason, I realize that I think it’s been a year since mummy has been gone from the Château, and even though I know she is happy and safe with Percy, it makes me a little sad?

Love the tree. Love the pink. Love Andie's artwork and the beautiful toile. She is so talented. Philip is so patient. Yelled a bit at the screen when I saw the hedge trimmers being used to trim the top of the tree. They might need re-sharpening now as they are designed to be used with the finer leaves on hedges, not Christmas tree tops. Love these vlogs xo

Tree de Jouy!!! Andee did a beautiful job. Just my 2 cents on the tree height thing, when we had a little too much height we would trim from the bottom first so as to keep the shape at the top. But this certainly turned out beautifully!

Aprons! You need to make Lalande aprons from "Lalande toile" (as yet to be designed) . It would be a wonderful seller to raise money for restoration or as souvenirs for your guests. Next year you could come out with a Christmas version. Everybody loves classy Christmas aprons! Everybody loves chateau aprons.

I'm with Philip - Tinsel garland is beautiful, but it takes care to drape it properly so that it looks lovely. Then tinsel icicles, carefully hung, only a couple per branch end... My motto is "More sparkle!" Looks lovely, everyone. Nicely done!

Merry Advent! Inspired by today's vlog and by other commenters, I just had an idea for a future Advent: toile images of the 12 days of Christmas at La Lande, using Andy's fantastic artwork. I'm heading out to get my tree now, thanks to La Landers' for this fun vlogs!
