Fuel economy is what the 2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid and Tucson PHEV plug-in hybrid are all about, but that's not what makes them unique. For starters, both small SUVs have the Tucson's updated-for-2025 angular and expressive exterior styling, as well as a competitive list of standard safety and tech features and a smooth, quiet ride. The Tucson Hybrid and PHEV move a little faster than the regular Tucson, though, thanks to their electric motors and standard all-wheel drive. There are 231 horsepower in the hybrid and 261 horsepower in the PHEV. This is 44 and 74 horsepower more than the regular Tucson, and both get much better gas mileage. They're also easy on the ears because a standard six-speed automatic transmission doesn't have as much drone as continuously variable automatic transmissions, which are used in many hybrid competitors. The Tucson's five-passenger SUV design is competitive in its base form, but the Hybrid and PHEV models offer a better balance of power and efficiency for not a lot more money. They are also two of the most cheap electric compact SUVs on the market right now.
Along with bigger bumpers and more streamlined front and rear lights, the Tucson has a new grille design. Decorative skid plates on the front and back add a touch of rugged style, and new wheel styles make it look more modern. There are changes to the inside, such as two optional 12.3-inch screens that look like those in other Hyundai models and the return of several physical buttons for the music and climate controls. The changes include a new parcel shelf on the dashboard and a center panel with a shelf and an optional wireless charging pad. The hybrid now has 231 horsepower and the PHEV plug-in hybrid has 268. This is because both types get a slightly more powerful electric motor under the hood. This year, two new driving modes were added: My Drive, which can be customized by the user, and Baby Mode, which slows down the speed response so as not to wake up your sleeping baby. The plug-in hybrid also gets a mode called "Green Zone, " which turns the system into a 100% electric vehicle.
