I am amazed that Vez can still keep his cool with anything involving Slice Engineering and post positive comments on videos covering their products. This shows that he is an awesome human being and very mature. I think I couldn't be like that in his shoes...
Exactly the same experiences as I had with that "snake"! It's a Mk8 / V6 mutant with the lack of high performance. I belive in your explanation of the short distance between heater cartridge and sensor. - And then using a nozzle with poor conductivity on top to spoil the rest. Not what I expected from an expensive "all metal upgrade". Then rather a full blooded V6 solution, maybe with a vulcano nozzle ;-)
I was noticing that the glass bead style we’re originally designed to use on heat pads on the beds, and the manufacture started cutting corners, reusing them and heater blocks. Do yourself a favor, upgrade to an all metal 100K and never look back…
Thermal compound is designed to fill in minute air gaps between metal surfaces (which should quite smooth/ polished) and NOTHING more. With time it will dry out and or ooze out: replace the glass bead sensor with one that has a metal casing having the right diameter
For an MK8 hotend, I prefer MK8-style heatblocks. While I like the V6's heater clamping mechanism, I like having those extra screws up into the heatsink, especially when dealing with relatively fragile bimetallic heatbreaks. But you can get MK8-style heatblocks in copper, if you look around a bit.
I personally feel the screw on the Mk8 do little to support the heatbreak and lead to a false sense of security. Having used Hotends that have much more positive support systems for the heater block, those screws aren’t doing much. I still support the block thoroughly with a wrench on Mk8s.
The Copperhead is the best heatbreak I ever tried. I never had an issue with them. But in fact you do not need their heaterblock. Heaterblocks are not rocket sience. If there is a need for more temperature consistency just buy a chiniese plated copper drop in heaterblock. The big benefit I see in the Coppeehead heatbreak is its perfect machining and coating and the longer melt zone you get because the part in the heaterblock is made of copper. Combined with a CHT nozzle you get very high flowrates.
@@Technikfreak72 Yeah, I'm using a Copperhead heatbreak with an MK8-style heatblock myself. I've been trying it out with a CHT 0.4mm nozzle, but I've gotta be honest, I'm not seeing an improved flowrate with that setup: I'm still stuck around 12mm/s before my extruder starts to skip. I'm starting to think 0.4mm is just too small for those higher flowrates; I have an 0.6, I just haven't installed it yet.
@@TheSpooniest At the very least, I doubt the copperhead is actually contributing any flow rate. Even though the threaded slug in the heater block side is copper, the surgical steel tube still extends all the way through the entirety of it down to the surface that meets with the nozzle. Also, with regards to the durability of these things, I'm actually kind of surprised lol. I don't have the screws in my mk8 since I had to replace the block, and my ADD-havin'-ass decided it was a good idea to walk away from the printer while it was homing. Of course, it just so happen that my bltouch failed to deploy on the way down and I came back to ender ramming the nozzle into my brand new smooth pei bed lmao. I didnt learn my lesson the first time, and this happened twice. Somehow though, my copperhead's throat is still perfectly straight in spite of that.
A V6 nozzle can replace a Mk8, but a Mk8 cannot replace a V6. They are the same thread but the RepRap nozzles have a longer threaded section (by about 3-4mm), so that is more of the nozzle engaged in the heater block. If you install a RepRap nozzle in a Mk8 block, it'll fit but not be threaded in as much as is intended. So yes, it wasn't proper to say that it is a "Conversion" so much as a "adaption to the proper fit for a RepRap nozzle.".
Looks like the main gain from the swap was getting away from the stupid ptfe lined hotend. Revo CR is probably a better option now that's out, and they have a patented design that's actually unique.
@@MandicReally The beautiful thing is, the Obxidian nozzles are basically a lifetime buy. There should be no legitimate reason to ever have to buy more than one (of each size if so inclined) over the lifetime of the machine; and you're supporting a company who _does_ actually innovate. Hell; even bondtech - I'm fine with their patented dual gear drive, because there was innovation there. Slice just went "Oh, they're using thin stainless steel - we can do that with thinner stainless!". The stock they used for the Mosquito originally came from the medical industry so basically they're doing the "[xxx] ... but on a 3D printer!" thing. It's horribly trite.
@@ThantiK I have the Revo CR on my Ender 6 and it's great. Nice fast printing and able to run draft prints with a quick nozzle change. Heats up really fast. So far I love it.
Just get a revo, quality improvement with the benefit of quick change nozzles and slightly more difficult to break. If you don’t want to pay revo money get a used V6 or a clone and enjoy that all metal goodness…
You can get a V6 heatsink threaded for a hemera/revo heatbreak from Ali for like... $4. Add a proper Hemera heat break for $12 and a 3rd party copper heat block for another $15 and your nozzle of choice, and you have a pretty nice setup for < $50.
Anything that avoids supporting Slice engineering. They've become a patent troll, because they think they invented stainless steel spacers. For all of you who want to do something about it -- Contact the organizers for MRRF and ERRF this year, and tell them you don't want Slice engineering at the shows. I can't support anyone who suggests their hardware. Because this community has always been about being open with your progress, and mixing that all around to everyone so that 3D printing gets cheaper, easier, higher quality, etc. I've also left a 1-star review for Slice in G Maps to show my displeasure. The best we can do as 3D Printer enthusiasts is be loud and vocal about our disdain for Slice's poor taste.
So they got rid of the heatbreak standoffs/screws that Creality has to return to a more easily broken hold and hot tighten design? Hunh, that seems an odd choice for them to leave out.
What hotends do you recommend for a stock ender 3? Looking at upgrade options to improve / increase the maintenance on my ender 3. Currently replacing/cleaning the printer every couple months (3-5 prints a week). If there's another hotend that would improve that, it would be great! As always, great content! Keep it coming!

@@MandicReally Yes, i did see your review of that nozzle setup just the other day. great review. only thing that gets me on that one is the price... price of the kit then the replacement nozzles. I've seen other videos of those nozzles quite awhile ago and it seemed very interesting to me at that time as well. i like the design of how the heater wraps around the nozzle. makes most sense in that aspect. just sad they went with an proprietary nozzle setup then. it's understandable from their aspect of quality control. @@wsseibert i had the revo nozzles on my cr10 and i dont have need one since then if you really want a long live nozzle the obsidian version of the rezo is basicly undestructible
For $100, I'd buy the MicroSwiss DD, or spend the extra $20 to get the DD NG. Also designed and machined in the USA, also coated nozzles, titanium heat break, but the added benefit of a much better extruder to go with it. Will it flow more? Maybe. But I bet if you took the MicroSwiss DD and stuck an MK8 CHT nozzle on it, you'd at least match those nearly 20mm/s3 numbers.

No way its worth it because it would mean giving money to the patent trolls at slice engineering who post unprofessional nonsense on their blogs trying to justify why their trolling isn't. If they actually made all the ideas in the patents they have I wouldn't complain.

Im willing to pay more for American made products but slice is a bit overboard so I pass. There are options that match or exceed their hotends performance for a fraction of the price. Not impressed.
LOL. Literally typed that comment and hit send right before you said the same thing at the end. I also just read some of the comments. I didnt know about their business practices in going after other hotends. Im all for IP rights but they are just flat out a greedy company it seems.
I won't buy anything from slice after them acting like they invented screws. They recently took down the rapido and vez3ds goliath from ali because of the patent they never should have been granted.
A sentiment that a lot of folks share. I hadn't hear about any issues with the Rapido, but I saw about the Goliath. I was really looking forward to seeing more of that hotend.
@@MandicReally Rapido was taken down at the same time but the ali sellers have reuploaded with renderings that dont include the screws. Slice will have to order, receive, and send photos to ali and then rapido will be gone again.
@@caramelzappa interesting. They are still up on Amazon, so I guess it somehow has something to do with their Chinese patent. I’ve got a Rapido in my V2.4 and would be very disappointed to see that option go away.
Great video as always but one part you may not have considered is pricing in other regions. $100 usd get's you far better full hotend and extruder upgrades for an Ender 3 everywhere else. I honestly think it's an uncompetative and kind of useless product from Slice.
I just installed a copperhead with an LGX ACE on my FT5. I found the exact same thing with temp and have to run PETG and TPU 5 top 10 degrees more. So far though it isnt bad, it works well, but nothing earth shatteringly different from my Flexion setup.
basically what ur not saying as i guess its a sponsored video is its not wort the money as i see it it dint make blind difference and as u say there are cheaper alternatives and better no matter where the thing is made, at the end of the day the community will decide, iv been 3d printing and programming then over here in england and cheap is always better over here especially now the economy has changed, its not what you pay its the end result and as far as i can see there is not that much difference to justify the price
Slice engineering : proudly suing people to oblivion with shitty patents! Instead they should have used the time and effort to upgrade or widen their products and lower the prices.... But noooo BRIDGE MASTER ..... WTH is that supposed to be or do ? Magically levitate melted filament????
Yeah honestly even if this was decent (which honestly for $99 this seems like a massive let down) I don't want to give slice money if I can avoid it. Their bimetalic heat breaks are better built than most and I'll give them that, but everything else, and their patent troll-y behaviour? I'll pass.
