For their winter rest Venus fly traps need really cold. Usually put it in your fridge.

Thank you so much for helping! I will see what I will do, but it definitely needs a cooldown I understand now and not dry up completely in winter! …

Hi, EJ. Love your new plants. I live in the native land of venus fly traps Eastern NC, USA. Where the winter temps may drop in the thirties. My traps live outside year around. They seem to enjoy winter temps that are on the cooler side and moist media, no setting in water trays until growth starts. Mine do very well and have bloomed and seeded abundantly. Your winter environment may be to warm. Hope this helps😊
@TheOrchidSaGa
@TheOrchidSaGa 5 месяцев назад
No sadly not to warm 😂. We do get freezing temperatures. I did dry mine up during winter so that’s not a good idea! Thank so much for your advice! I will try to do better… 😅

IMHO this Miltoniopsis is indeed Princess Diana "Red Baron". When buds develop at lower temperatures, the blooms become darker. When the environment is hot, there is less burgundy and much more white in the mix. I have three of such plants, bought them in different years in summer with very pale flowers, now in bloom with really dark burgundy petals and the lip.
@TheOrchidSaGa
@TheOrchidSaGa 5 месяцев назад
Interesting! Thank you for letting me know and it does make sense to me! I see that with other orchids as well. How temperature and/or light can have a big influence on the color of the blooms. But I didn’t know it would have this effect as well on the Milt. Princes Diana’s. Funny enough I do have three variety’s now myself as well LOL… So, we shell she wat they will do with the blooms! :D

I did find it in the grocery store, can you believe it! ❤😅 they do have them for sale there from time to time but never saw this one. Very nice purple blooms! I do give my carnivorous RO water and they do well, I do not always have fresh rain water around. Thank you!

Hi E.J. wonderful plant haul🥰👏💞I love your choice of Phals. The Epiphyllum enjoys the same conditions as your Phals😌👍Just let the potting medium dry between waterings and it will grow nicely😄🙏💖

hi EJ! lovely new phals. enjoy them! for the venus fly trap well, if we say in summer they need full sun and warm temp. 70-80f as well s feed with bugs no fertilizer and quite moist like sitting in water...on the other hand in the winter the can cool down at 40f so you can move it on your cooler place. I move mine near my northern balcony, not outside, where it is always colder..( I don't know the fridge smn mention above is right!) they don't need any food so no bugs quite drier but moist...I keep mine in self watering in sphagnum and keep the sphagnum moist with no water in the reservoir...in their dormant phase they sed the leaves they become black and look like dead but are not, just sleeping keep them moist!!... when temp starts rising in spring you can move them in warmer and brighter conditions and start levelling up the water. When new leaves grow and open you can start feeding again!! p.s. if there is not enough "food" for them you might need to feed "manualy" they really need those nutrients. the prey can be alive or not ( incects only, you can find dried crickets in a reptile pet shop..but don't forget to trigger the little hair so the trap will close..) I put mine in a big glass jar and once in a while feed them with live crickets I buy from a reptile store, the box have 7 -10 crickets and I empty in the jar I put a plate on top and let the traps do their job!!! just keep in mind that size matters the insect should be smaller than the trap so it can fully close! Hope I make sense, good luck❤😊

You definitely are making senses! :D This is what I needed! Thank you SO much for all the help. I might kept my previous once to dry in winter! I thought they didn’t need any water. So, yes this helps a lot. I will try again, and I will try to feed them. I did give them flies. Such beautiful, unusual plants they are. :D

The big lip phal is gorgeous! I have seen it as phal. Manta Palau...probably commercial name... the first one could be phal. hidden nature but I am not sure about the colour and last phal. which is lovely, still not yet in my collection is a cross phal. jiaho's pink girl x manii black or just manii....

It is SO beautiful indeed, I think it might be the norman’s yellow butterfly ‘sweetheart’? I love the colors on it. The first one I did get a name for and I think it is it; Tzu Chiang Balm. Queen of the Night refers to two different night blooming cacti. You have there Epiphyllum oxypetalum, which is easier to grow and bloom but the flowers are less dramatic than Selenicereus grandiflorus. Both are very nice but you need A LOT of room for Selenicereus as it is a vining cactus.
@TheOrchidSaGa
@TheOrchidSaGa 5 месяцев назад
This is very helpful! Thank you. Roos did mention the vining type of growth. So probably it is a Selenicereus, I will ask her.
@michaelmccarthy4077
@michaelmccarthy4077 5 месяцев назад
@@TheOrchidSaGa it is definitely Epiphyllum oxypetalum, you can tell by the flattened stems/leaves. Selenicereus has tubular stems.

Did they have any new "other" orchids on the tables in the back (the ones I usually visit) last time I was there they hadn't restocked those in at least three months, I'm afraid they're focusing more and more on the Phals and the tropical gardens

I am afraid too. No new plants there. Still some jewels, oncidium munsterland, Paphiopedilum American hybride and the Pinocchio and a few others but nothing new there. Some vanda’s in vases in the front of the store, those did look new to me.
