Hi EJ, I noticed that when you pot in pumice that you don’t add a wick. Does pumice wick enough on its own to not need a wick? Thanks
@TheOrchidSaGa
@TheOrchidSaGa 6 дней назад
If the inner pot sits in the water, then you don´t need a wick, but if it hangs above the reservoir, then you do need a wick!

Hi again, EJ. Thank you for all of this information. I have four den phals in my collection, and they are growing well and one of them has bloomed for me times since I purchased it. I do agree with you that they are keiki producers, the one that's bloomed for me has given me two babies so far and I am so happy that she did. Any chance you can give us a care video cattleya care? Thanks.

changing up the video release day? I wish you could get a Dendrobium Jacquelyn Thomas over there. By far my favorite of all Dendrobium. The color of the blooms, the number of spikes it can produce (I have 5 year old canes that still throw a random spike) and the fragrance.

Very good video and I appreciate you pointing out the diff because I have a huge interest in the Miltonia flowers, and how the star shape is and I think it’s beautiful. But due to my environment I have little interest in actually perusing the miltoniopsis and I know I’m bold to want a Miltonia. But when I mention this in my research to growers, it is almost like they believe they are the same. But also I wanted to mention that since you grow in semi hydro, I watch an amazing orchid grower that grows solely in leca and lava rock/or semi hydro and I think you would very much so enjoy her videos. She’s very very experienced in this and like missorchidgirl and few others, she shows her problems/failures in growing and the things she’s learned as well as the victories. Which I find very very helpful. She also is very attentive to her viewers and has personally helped me with at least a few heavy duty questions. She’s on RU-vid. And her channel is Ninjaorchids. I hope you will find her cause I don’t know exactly how to insert a link but will do so if I figure it out on my phone P.S. love viewing your orchids always Complete eye candy!

I also don't think that Großräschner is the best in Europe. My best unboxings were from Kopf Orchideen, Germany, and Akerne. Unfortunately both have quite limited selections but I'm sure that's due to the quality. Buying orchids is like a box of chocolat... I envy you for Lansbergen where you can pick and choose. I don't understand Miltonia flavescens. I have never been able to get mine to grow roots. The plant is somehow still alive but there is literally not one root more than about 5 cm, most are shorter than that. I see people with these huge plants covered in flowers and I have this pathetic little thing.

I had my first one blooming, but then I suddenly started dying off. Check it and it had fusarium. I did get myself a new one, same story… And this one doesn’t look right too. It’s kinda big, has roots but it doesn’t hydrate properly. So maybe you want to check a back bulb? … If I have Fusarium, it’s almost always on a Miltonia.

They all look fantastic, Eelke! In the Cyms I have in pumice/semi-hydro I have been giving a steady feed of around 150ppm so that may be about what yours are getting, averaging out your numbers. The roots are pushing the plants out of their pots, though there is plenty of space for new growths for a couple years yet. 😂 I need to find some of those buckets. I do have a couple others I put into bark/soil mix, those are getting around 400ppm with this grow season. Interesting to follow your progress with these over the months. Thanks Eelke! 🙏😀❤️

have those round marks always been on the Durigan leaves? I see that and it makes me think virus (specifically a mosaic virus). It looks like there is some color break on the lip maybe, can't see anything on the rest of the bloom but that might be the pattern hides it. I would keep an eye on it, if the newest leaves develop those same marks, you may have to trash the plant.

@@TheOrchidSaGa this may be a long shot to reach out to you like this but I literally am not sure what to do. I have a finch that my cat brought in today and I found it around 9am… with a very injured wing and a wound. I was bawling like a baby holding it and waiting for her to pass(I don’t actually know if it’s a her but for lack of knowing, i feel like she is) because she was so still and weak but she just kept barely hanging on. Is it normal for a bird who’s been seriously injured to go into kind of a trance/sleeping state for this long? I can still tell she has a heartbeat and is warmish but it’s incredibly sad and I wish I could give her water or something but she doesn’t respond to me putting some of her beak or anything. I cleaned the wound with some iodine and I put some peroxide on it and then a very natural and mild naturalizing gel in hopes of helping her feel a little relief. I don’t know what to do at this point. Should I bathe her with a warm cloth or wrap the wound somehow? Neosporin! I’ve cared for a lot of injured animals in my time because I love them and I’ve had a lot of them, so it just happens. But birds are very foreign to me and even though I think I’m doing all I can, I feel like I’m also not, because I truly didn’t expect her to still be alive at this point…. I really don’t want her to suffer more from dehydration or hunger or heat or cold or infection… I don’t have anywhere close to take her and I also have no way of doing so until tomorrow and I don’t think the place nearish to me takes wild birds.. and also feel maybe she has to make it through tonight in order to try and get her to someone who can care for her professionally. Sorry sorry for all the questions and how long this is but I would like to ask someone I actually know does this kind of thing and not the internet… also I probably have one chance to reach ya as far as possibly soon and I wanted you to have the info. If you could give me any pointers of how to clean or protect her wound or keep her more comfy, and also what to feed her, or how to go about getting her fluids?? I would so very much so appreciate you.. and your time She’s in a sock hat rolled up like a nest and the hat is in a basket with towel set over the handle, making sort of a tent with one flap opening. I’ve been trying to keep her at rest and quiet and also some darkness but not completely. I cleaned it once but not well and that was also about 12 hours ago now. She won’t move but she blinks slowly every now and again. I have some dry cat food I put in a little water until it got poofy and tried smushing it by her beak and touching her beak with it. And I have water in one of those cooking squeeze bottles with the pointed tip, and have tried to put some on her beak and touch the side of her beak with the end of it but no response of wanting any. Do you know what finches eat and would a bath help her to drink? It seems she likes it when I hold her in my hand and breathe with her close. But it’s hot here and I feel like she must be hot cause I am, but my instinct say to keep her bundled… at least that was my instinct. Now I feel like I am creating a stagnant environment for infection. Should I clean her off well and get her in a more open spot or… You can see I’m at a loss and panicking a bit. I just wanna help! Anything at all thank you! Any products you know of to apply as well/ Seriously sorry for this and I thank you for anytime you spend, even if it’s just the read the massive comment I just wrote.. whether you know what I can do or even if the answer is that I’m too late to do what I should have… Just knowing that would help me ti settle and I think handle this better for her -L

@@LauraStansfield-tw7xb I am so sorry for my late response, but I am not allowed to give you any kind of care guides in this matter. The only thing, and the best thing, I can say is that the finch needs help from a professional. And they need it ASAP. The poison most likely will kill them otherwise. Despite all your good intentions and care. It needs help… I hope everything did turn out well, but I am afraid it didn’t…. Good luck.

@@TheOrchidSaGa yes you are right and don’t be sorry. I was desperate but also I believe it was too late. She died from shock and barely moved at all aside from closing her eyes and such for a time. I appreciate you reaching out nonetheless

Glad to hear my spider mite recipe works for you! Mites have been a nightmare for a year until I figured how to handle them 😬 🧡

It works wonders! Absolutely wonders. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe with us, I still use it. My Miltoniopsisses do have red spider mites at least once a year… So I cannot get rid of them completely, but this spray does kill them! And thank you for watching, it is a honor having you on my channel! :D
