@biglinc1 thanks! it's a fun car! Maybe i'll post the process of detailing the car to make it look show-quality. Paint restoring and polishing takes a lot of steps and time, but it's work is rewarding. Vote thumbs up if you think a "detailing" video for this car would be cool to watch.
I used to have one. Best car I have ever owned. Fast, comfortable, reliable, and good looking. If there was an event or a family member I wanted to see 1000 miles away I would go at the drop of a hat. 15 hours later I would be there. I was never exhausted when I arrived. Logged many happy miles in that car. Best car ever in my opinion.
I was in the states on holday in summer 1979 Cadillac coupe devilles were everywhere beautiful cars even today I owned a Fleetwood Brougham 1985 model gorgeous motor.
Wow. Nice Caddy. 79 was the best year out of all 3 body styles 77 & 78. My Dad had a 79 Informal Limo for our Limousine business back in the 70's/80's. The 79 was a dream. That 425 engine has a lot of power. I had 77 and 78 Coupes. I remember that I had to open the windows a little to close the door while inside or you had pressure stop. Good Luck with that Coupe. Its a beauty.
My daddy own a 79 coup de ville 2 door , that thing was a good car , it saved my life twice . The crazy thing is that my dad's boss died in that car from a heart attack and his wife gave my dad that car because she couldn't afford to pay him for the ranch work he did that year because of financial problems! It had 55,000 original miles , all it needed was a battery and spark plug wires .
I had a 1979 Cadillac Coupe de Ville d'Elegance with every option including telephone and moon roof, opera lamps, etc., and my hood ornament did not have the wreath around the Cadillac emblem as this was only for Fleetwood's.
I am very zen, so I've been told. I hope you get a chance to own one or ride in one again. I'm sure it will bring back great memories!!! Thanks for watching, sputnik!
Very nice...what a beautiful car!!! My dad has a 79 Caddy Cpe De Ville that he passed on to me since he passed away last Jan 2015. His is exactly like yours in white. After seeing this video...I'm even more in tears and makes me want to keep it (as long as I can) along with the memories I had with him.
My daddy 79 de ville saved my life twice. One night I was going to the store to go get a beer something told me to look to my left ,something told me it sounded like a man's voice and Bam all I saw was this Nissan Sentra running like a hundred miles an hour and it ran the stop sign and it almost hit me but I floored it that caddy burn that rubber like a bat out of hell and that Nissan missed me bye inches . The second time it died at a stop light , it just died it didn't want to start , and bam a semi truck ran a red light , if I would have took off it would have killed me instantly. My dad bosses wife said " he loved that car with all his heart and soul !" Its scary !
That’s a beautiful caddy. My uncle still has his (original/1st owner) 1979 Cadillac de ville with 10,760 miles. It’s red with flawless white leather interior. They sure don’t make them like that anymore!!
Those are good cars! My bros. and me bought one of these for our Mom back in the day. When she passed I took it and figured I'd use it til something major went out. I had it for 14 years! put 200k on it. Engine was still strong. Rear end went out. Traded it in! got 400.00! Still have the hood ornament. Was sad to see that car go!
Beautiful Caddy. The color is just gorgeous! Makes me miss my 79 Sedan deVille. I concur completely on the detailing video. I've paid good money to have my 74 LTD detailed and it's just never to my satisfaction. I'd like to go back to doing it myself, but there are SO MANY PRODUCTS out there nowadays. Haven't a clue what to use that won't do more damage than good. I'd especially like to see your process for that sparkling clean engine compartment!
Thank You my Friend! Whatever the Hood ornament, this is a great car, and it is good to know there are people like you to keep such great automobiles in such great condition! There are a lot of American car lovers over here in France, even though most of us have to trudge along with lousy stinking Diesels! 1978 and 1979, I should add, are, in my opinion GM's best years!!
check your right rear shocks. Or if it has level ride, that might be the culprit. I would guess something in the rear is making the front left side sit higher. Just some guesses. Good luck!! Thanks for watching my video.
@DogsLoveUs - In 1979 this car, with all the options, cost around $12K. We detailed the engine - you noticed. Also paint correct buffing of the car - a lot of work and weekends to get that shine and to fininsh a complete detail - worth all of that fun! Thanks for the comment!!!
That is a very good-looking Caddy. I hope you keep it in good condition for many years to come. My first car was a 1964 Cadillac deVille - but it was not nearly as nice as your 1979.
You are right! I get real impressed with peoples eye for detail. The original hood ornament was taken off and replaced with the wreath insigna version - to save the original from being stollen and because I like the other version better. good eye there grooteschuur62.
@JoJoStar22 I'm with you. Big luxury is long gone. No long hoods or even hood ornaments - shame. And the more I work on the car the more I realize just how well thought out and built this 1979 car is.
Beautiful car in stunning condition. I have a 79 Fleetwood in the same color but with a black vinyl roof. :) Has this car been repainted? Mine has the original paint on it but it is crackled on the hood and the trunk :(
@JoJoStar22 Thanks! As long as I have the space to store it, this car's staying around for a long time. Toys get bigger as I get older and I like 70's cars (as you can tell form my other videos). Thanks for comment!!!
very nice its supposed to have a crest only style hood ornament. gottah replace the fuel line and sometimes the brake line they are on the left side opf the frame and get pinholes in them.replace the brake line with steel and fuel replace with copper and fit with compression fittings.and the 2 door striker pins remove and slide on some pex pipe sleeves so the doors close nice.take off the trim remove the plastic tabs grease with axle grease and reinstall clips n trim stops that rust that happens under the trim.lots of work but its a must.remove the fuel tank red coat it and replace all short peices of rubber line with ethanol resistant 3/8 hose.replace door panel bulbs with led festoon cob bulbs and t10 led under dash and dome cob festoon cant replace the map lights they have have no led led replacements
Wow! A triple red deElegance. I notice it has the 8-Track/CB radio. Does it also have the astro roof? I have a '77 Superior Crown hearse on a Cadillac commercial chassis.
Nice. I have a 84. Same color. Just wished it had the 425. I’m not fond of the 4100. Was a bad engine for Cadillac and way underpowered. She runs great and looks great.
@JoJoStar22 Very pretty car!! What size engine? When you gonna post a video of it? I saw your nice video of the 1988 taken at night - looks great!!! Guess you sold that one and got the 1987?
Devilles did not have the wreath around the crest on the hood ornament. Only Fleetwood Brougham, Eldorado and Seville had the wreaths. Change out the hood ornament so the vehicle is factory correct.
Yes sir that is one lucky car!!!! :-) I have a 1978 fleetwood brougham de' elegance and a 1979 sedan de ville but under your hood is well kept mine is nice but not like yours happy driving
What's the major difference between the 78 or 79 Phaeton vs Coupe Deville? I know only like 12,000 Phaeton were made, but what's the difference vs Coupe D Ville
