Home Grown SUV Maker Mahindra & Mahindra is reportedly working on a new base variant / entry level variant of the second generation 2020 Thar. It is expected to be lauched with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine, paired to a manual transmission as well as an automatic transmission upon arrival. Also confirmed is that this new base variant of the new thar 2020 will be offered with 2WD as standard without an optional 4WD. It is unknown, that whether a petrol or a diesel 1.5-litre engine would be used for Thar. Mahindra could choose between two 1.5-litre engines in the ALL-NEW THAR. It can be a 1.5-litre diesel unit powering Marazzo, XUV300 or Bolero and, secondly, a 1.5-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine which is under development.
The all-new Thar 2020 currently comes with a choice of two engines - a 152hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol along with a 132hp, 2.2-litre diesel. Both have 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic gearbox options and get a 4x4 system as standard; a low range manual shift transfer case is standard across all powertrain options.
