I am itching to make some pillows from old linens. Nine years ago we down-sized, and my sewing machine got packed away (hubby promised I’d get it back when we were all settled). Now here we are, all settled for quite a few years, and the sewing machine is still in a box somewhere in the basement. Our first great-grand baby is due next summer, so I MUST rescue that old Singer! Thank you for the encouragement to stand my ground and insist that he find my machine! 😁 🧵

Or you could find a used one in a thrift shop if you don’t feel like looking, I saw a beautiful old vintage singer the other day at a Goodwill. The young man was buying it he must’ve been no older than 19.

Gosh I have a machine that I bought a hobby lobby 4 years ago when I moved from Connecticut to North Carolina and it's still in the box I wish it wasn't so heavy I would sell it at a reasonable price because obviously I'm just not going to use it I've never even opened the box once it's a singer

I bought a 1968 vintage Singer Fashionmate 237 for just $25 at a garage sale. The old man tuned it up for me for just $35. It sews like a dream, and it will last way longer than a new cheaply made plastic one. I love how you don’t ruin pristine vintage linens but save the good parts of old linens that have deteriorated. You could go to vendor fairs and sell them there. Then there’s no shipping.

Love what you do with old linens. I didnt think there was much of a market for these but i have about three totes of rescued linens to work with and i was blessed with a vintage Singer machine that has about 30 cams to make specialty zigzag stitches with. Its kind of fiddly to get the tension right but worth the effort to create border stitches on the linens as i stitch them to the case. Also, i use some of these pieces to make doll clothes for my antique dolls😊 TFS😊😊😊

I do machine embroidery but I love the hand embroidered things from the last century better. Love Love Love this project! I will be making something for my great grandaughter's room soon.

David’s wife Linda is using his iPad again. About 20 years ago I made what I call a coverlet rather then a quilt using a white sheet as a backing and old floral handkerchiefs from 20’s,30’s ,40’s and 50’s ( when women carried them in there purses to use if necessary) it took me many years to gather enough of them because some I saw were threadbare, so soiled that stains would not come out,etc. to have a coverlet “ covered” 😂 I placed them , sometimes over a corner of another, using all different sizes and colors. I love it, it’s so unique and I use it seasonally in the springtime. Came across unused handkerchiefs and have them laid out to make pillow shams this year! Your embroidery idea is great - gather enough of them and you could make a coverlet for a bed, especially if you have a single sized bed .

My last order of pillows that shipped out of the country cost $75 to mail. I could not make a profit at that rate. To mail in the states was $10-30 depending on how many were purchased. You also must consider the cost of: fabric, poly stuffing, thread, needles, buttons, ribbon and TIME.

Ive been making covers for my linen/sets of sheets, pillowcases, bed covers etc. I do this then put lavender bags in with them to keep the cloth smelling fresh. I love this idea so much! Thank you for the video and tutorial! I have some hand-embroidered pillow cases that I made when I was in my teens and twenties, and still have lots of press-on patterns from 'way-back-in-the-day.' I love to do the embroidery, but I can't do any fine crotchet. I want to make the once popular western denim shirt with the embroidered cowboy and western designs on it. Just found your channel. What a good idea to use old linens. Do you ever use pre formed pillows from Michaels or Joanns instead of stuffing? Probably have to be more choosy on the size of pattern that goes on the pillows to match up sizes. Easy enough to add a zipper while constructing so it could be removed to wash. Just a thought. I've made dozens of American Girl clothes for my 4 grand daughters. Sadly the are all to old now😢. Waiting for great grand kids❤

@cottagedesignsbyerin4548
@cottagedesignsbyerin4548 4 месяца назад
You could sew a straight line right down the middle, if you are referring to the hem stitch on the pillow. If you are talking about crocheted ruffles on pillowcases, you will have to catch them in the side seams of the pillow or they will continue to unravel.

Probably not, only because I haven't purchased any new linens. It is not a miracle worker, but it does work. You can expect 1 shade lighter on the fabric, but it is not going to take out 50 year old tea stains.

Was wondering why you would not make a pillow form using a piece of muslin and stuff it with polyester fill. Place your pillow cover over it . If the pillow cover gets soiled over time it would be easier to remove the pillow and wash the case rather than pull out all the stuffing and have to restuff it.
