10 Speed Transmission Issues update video. I was experiencing 10 speed shifting issues in my Mustang GT, specifically to upshifting in 3rd and 5th. The car is stock right now with no tune. I took it to my local dealership to get the 10 speed transmission working right on the Mustang.
10 Speed transmission is a wonderful transmission, but has its quirks especially related to software. Most people on forum have noted that their issues with the 10 speed automatic transmission are fixed via software update.

Buddy of mine just got a 10 speed GT (basically brand new (23 6k miles) and they must have resolved these issues with the later cars. I drove his for a while the other day in a few different modes at various speeds and scenarios and it felt very smooth. I was actually seriously impressed with the transmissions performance. What really blew me away was how "smart" the transmission was in track mode with knowing when to downshift through the gears while slowing down aggressively or entering a corner. Auto's have come a long way!

Yes aside from occasional hiccups I absolutely love the 10 speed. It's pretty response even in the paddle shifter mode. In sport plus mode it will hold the gears properly

Hey bro! Did you know that letting your fuel go so low, will kill your fuel pump over time, your new empty, should be 1/4 tank. Your fuel pump is cooled by the fuel, so when you take it under 1/4, you are heating up your fuel pump, the pump is plastic, not like the old ones. Glad you got the issues fixed.

2023 got my transmission rebuilt per tsb. This year issue returned. Battery took a crap on me, replaced battery, all trans issues gone. Never shifted so smooth. 45k miles later….thanks Ford

Glad it fixed the issue. I am currently having an issue with my car when it shifts from 3-4 and 4-5 rough and lazy while all the other gears feel good. They did this reflash and unfortunately it didn’t fix the issue. Thinking it’s something mechanical unfortunately since I caught the dealership toying with my car with my dash cam.

I would definitely take it up with them since you have the dash cam footage. It's still under warranty so if they want they can get paid from Ford if they don't want to own up to their immature behavior of joy riding a customer's car. I hope your car gets fixed man!

@@Red5oh yes I already had a meeting with the GM and Service manager they gave me 1200 after fighting to just have them take my car back since I didn’t trust it. They denied me and wouldn’t trade me in to a similar car unless I paid an extra 7k. Now there saying they don’t want to drive the car because of what happened so if they don’t drive it to see what’s happening they can’t fix it. Going in again.

I need to do that with mine, I have a 2018 Ecoboost at 92,000 miles it has the same harsh shifts, and now it’s slipping in 1st gear taking it to get serviced tomorrow!!!

Glad you got it fixed bro! We have a 2020 Expedition and we had a similar transmission issue but what it ended up happening was that the torque converter was bad. We needed up getting a brand new 10r80 by Ford under warranty.

You can turn off adaptive transmission learning permanently via Forscan. It’s what I did and now the transmission behaves it SHOULD without constantly trying to gear hunt or predict my driving inputs

Just FYI, you can change the gear selector between driving sport without stopping, same thing goes for neutral.

Yeah I typically switch from S to D while driving. It’s really helpful instead of waiting to come to a full stop. This video I didn’t lol

I have the same issue. My car is at the dealership now and they didn't even know about TSB 22-2139. Service guy said they tried 3 other cars ranging from 19-22 and all had same issue. So in their conclusion, this is normal.. Hoping to get my car shifting right again because it shifts real rough and sometimes coming up the drive way it will cut out like it's having trouble catching a gear.. (22 gt w/ 5k miles on it).

I would definitely push on the TSB or find a different dealer. 10 speed overall can be quirky due to software issues but usually is fixed by software updates or TSBs. Show them this video if you have to with the TSB performed. You can see on my original video how bad the car shakes which made the camera shake too

Going to call them in the morning and urge them to perform it. I've read in mustang forums too that if you reset the learning module for the automatic and drive more "safer" it will have better shifts. May try doing that too. @@Red5oh

I’m going through this right now…the gear hunting is so annoying. I’ve taken it in twice, the soft wear update was step one and they even pulled the transmission during then second visit and it still happens. My issues are between 20 and 40 MPH. I’ve had *several other cosmetic issues too. 2021 was not a good year for buying a Mustang!

@@Red5oh I am…sadly I won’t have it much longer. Ford has agreed to buy it back. It’s such a bummer. I waited 20 years to buy another Mustang and now I’m too nervous to buy another one once the buyback is done with. Even my teenager says to buy a Toyota. Haha

I will check to see if I still have the receipt so I can post the tsb to help others out. But yeah I recommend taking it to the dealer and have them perform software update and check for any TSBs available

My car is at Palm Beach Dyno right now. Mine is lunging forward on decel. My first tune was fantastic but the second tune was horrible. Hopefully 3rd times is a charm.

I hope they revise the tune so car is buttery smooth. I debated going to with pbd instead of lund since I have sct device but have heard their customer service isn’t great and revisions can take forever. What’s been your experience

@@Red5oh well I am local to them and they did a bunch of stuff to my car. I am trying to reverse a few things the previous own did. I am actually down tuning the car. I am known at PBD as the guy who goes the opposite way, less power, less noise. Car made 770HP at the wheels. They have a bunch of tuners on hand, the dyno is pretty much occupied by Ken and Rob. However er, they have a remote tuning room that house a few tuners. They have 20 cars at the shop at all times. I was there yesterday and between them and Rarefab, had to be over 30 Mustangs. I have read up about all the tuners but for me I chose PBD because of the location. For N/A I hear PBD has that covered better than Lund. It’s a toss up with forced induction, seems peak numbers it’s PBD and better drive ability is Lund. There are some new tuners making some noise that have fast cars too. They turned it around same day. They initially wanted 2-3 days but I told them if it’s just software issue then I expect them to turn it around same day

Just got a 2018 about a month ago with 50k miles. Doing the same thing yours was hard “jerk” when going from R to D & only in sport mode is it doing a hard shift just like gears 3 to 5 but smooth in regular drive. Might have to get get it serviced and see if it needs a software update like yours. Wish I woulda tested S mode when I test drived it 🫠

Ask the dealer for software update sometimes they can do it for free even if out of warranty or at most $100. It’s worth to not deal with the 10 speed jerkiness at times which really takes away from the car

They did the update. It has been fine since. Since yours is under warranty I would recommend the same

Yeah ford updated the strategy around 2020 which made it smoother. Mine is fixed for now but I think I’ll tune it to make it shift better

My car is having similar issues . When on sport mode from 2nd gear to 3rd it shift way to hard, to where it shakes the whole car.

Yeah this 10 speed has some software issues. If it’s still under warranty I would take it in to the dealer so they can perform a TSB

Tell them the problem and ask them if there’s any tsb they can do for you. There should be new update they can apply free of charge

Go get the Ford procal 3 programmer, even better get the power pack 2 because it comes with a procal 3 programmer (and 50 lb of torque at 3000 RPM and something like 25 horsepower,) but anyway you can change the wheel circumference and that will move the shift points a little bit higher or lower, that gives you the ability to change slightly where the transmission shifts ,however you will find that the computer reflash with the power pack 2 is spot-on, unbelievably perfect and more horsepower and it calms the transmission down from shifting, it's actually how the car should have come from Ford... I've got two videos if you care to look at them with a dragy, but if all you have are occasional clunking leave it alone you have a 500 horsepower engine, the Transmissions not for a Lincoln.

Yes I am looking to tune my car now and a lot of people have recommended ford's power pack for 10 speed as it really helps with shifting. It seems like it may not have the most power compared to Lund, PBD, etc. but it is one of the best tune especially for daily drivability. I will check out your videos on it

@Red5oh don't even consider Lund, that douchebag says he hates Ford everyday on his little RU-vid station, does his Tunes under a 15 watt light bulb in his spare bedroom down in St Andrews apartments in Florida, definitely stay with the people that made the car, the power pack 2 is definitely the way to go.

@@Red5ohI brought it in twice and they told me that they ducked it but I am still experiencing they annoying shaking and to make it worse the car makes this weird slamming sound whenever I give it gas sometimes or whenever I take my foot off the gas paddle , it slams sometimes whenever I put it into drive or reverse and I told the dealership about it they told me that it’s probably needs update but this is going to be the 3rd time I am bringing it in I don’t know if it’s because I bought it at 16,000 miles I have no idea what’s going on with that car

Interesting. Which TSB is it? My 10sp (2018) can be brutal in gear changes, particularly in D. Think I’ll call my dealer tomorrow and see if this is something they can apply. Mine isn’t under warranty, so would I need to pay??

Typically $100 for diagnostic. The update will depend on the dealer but no more than $100-200. I remember you said you have 2020 so unless it’s more than 60k miles it should be free

@Red5oh It controls all the electronics in the car. My 2017 GT was at the Ford dealer for 2 months awaiting the part. Then it cost $945. So if you go to start the mustang and nothing works. Yea . Kinda scary.
