The plug for the back up camera is just under the rear bumper. It looks like a coaxial cable for your tv but smaller. Unplug it, blow it out and plug it back in. Mine has blue screened several times and that fixed it.
If you go to a parts store you can buy a 7 pin to 4 pin trailer plug in adapter for around 10 dollars and use the bottom trailer plug in and eliminate your problem
I'm in FL too and my car has the same feature. However, fortunately, BMW is smart enough to know that if the AC is on and is set to high, then engine auto shut off should be off.
The 2019 Ram has a similar limitation and will prevent Stop/Start if such a condition is met. But if you're trying to cool yourself off with the temperature set to 71° and fan speed set to 3, you're gonna get frustrated.
You can avoid the rubbing of the trailer plug cover on the tailgate by getting an adaptor for the larger plug in, that way you have to lift the bottom cover up to plug in the wire harness.
Ive heard some ppl saying dodge has reliability issues. Ive had 2 Rams and 2 V8 Dakota's. Other than a starter on my ram I've never had one problem. That truck had 312 thousand miles on it when I sold it.
I've heard of old rams having reliability issues my dad had a 2002 which had transmission, differential, and ECU issues all the time and now whenever I mention a ram to my parents they say they're pure garbage😂but I always tell them the newer ones are better they dont believe me lol
@@jesxs8485 haha! Can't say I blame them if they had that much trouble. You'll get a lemon here and there from all brands tho. I wasn't much of a Dodge fan before but definitely been converted. They haven't been the greatest on mpg but that might have been made alot worse by this led foot of mine to
@@jeremyjenkins9859 Lol! Same here though, was never a huge fan but these new models definitely caught my attention. Might get one for my pops next year for the sole reason of changing his mind about rams.
@@jeremyjenkins9859 brand loyalty is okay but hating on other brands is stupid. All the new trucks out these days are all great. I share a 2019 f350 powerstroke with a ton of options on it with my dad and it's a great truck. But he drives a 2016 2500 Silverado vortec and that truck has no issues as well. The new rams are also great. We test drove a 2019 3500 srw mega cab and it was awesome. It wasn't the high output with the better trans but it still drove the same as the ford imo.
I shopped long and hard for a full-sized 2019 pickup with price, features and mileage being the main drivers. I looked primarily at Toyota, Ford, GMC and Ram. Some things I wanted were a V-8 engine, a bench seat and a limited slip rear end with 4-Wheel Drive and two-tone paint. This combination of options because of the six passenger configuration force me to accept a mid-class model in all brands except the Ram. The Ram offered the upgrade of leather interior while the others only offered cloth. Long story short, I bought a 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Car 4 X 4 with everything I wanted and more options than I will ever use. It listed for $57,125, and bought it for $45,000 out the door plus tags, tax and title. None of the other models remotely came close with an all cash, no trade offer to buy. I have now had the Ram for six months with 2700 miles on it, and its combined mpg for 2700 miles is 20.1 mpg. I live in the East Tennessee hills and I have made a round trips to Kokomo, Indiana and Baltimore, Maryland. Show me a Ford, GMC or Toyota with a 395 hp engine That can get that mileage, and I will gladly admit I made a mistake. I do not solicit comments from anyone, but people voluntarily say to me, "What a beautiful truck."
Travis Lewis I pretty much got the same deal too. My truck was stickers at 52,000 and we got it around 45,000. Just got it at the right time of year with good factory incentives. We also traded in my tundra and our car and got the truck and another car.
Hey considering those two things are you only real complaints about the truck, that's not bad at all.. I love my 19 ram 1500 laramie. Only issue I have is the gas mileage sucks big time but I don't really care too much anyway. My truck is 4x4 with the 3.92 ratio on the gearing (or something like that) so I only get around 13mpg around town. But it sure does tow good and can't get stuck in anything lol.. I love it!
@@datguy8371 That would work too, he has a unique situation, most trailer users don't have the need to pull trailers with the tailgate down. And some trailers can't be pulled with the tailgate down due to clearance issues. I would just buy a $10 adapter and keep it in the glove box for this situation.
Toby MT1925 our a little filling on the top of the plug shroud. Granted after spending that kind of money I wouldn’t think I’d have to do that but to save paint and potential rust.....
Get a 7 prong adapter to flat blade when you load your 4 wheeler. Then plug into main plug and done deal. Usually when you tow the tailgate is up so you don’t jackknife the tailgate with trailer.
If I'm not mistaken - on the F150 putting a dummy plug in the tow hitch that makes the truck think it's.towing will shut off the auto start stop - maybe it works on the ram?
1 other gripe about tailgate down. I haul my kayak a bunch and you can’t see the license plate with tailgate down I have the Rebel package and love it so far about 7500 miles and a trip from Dallas to the mountains in Colorado. No issues other than those stupid recalls and an update to the radio that took a couple hours ( to fix FM) SiriusXM and everything else was fine
Just a heads up you can get an adapter from Walmart for the trailer lights so you can plug your wire into the bottom plug and not have to deal with the tailgate issue
Bought 2020 looks just like yours. Driving off lot radio didn't have volume. Was told to bring back because techs weren't there.. Brought back on following Monday to have radio flashed. After they said it was fixed got in truck to leave still not working. Now they want me to bring back again to change parts. First week of ownership and in the shop
Loved my 2015 Sport but 6 recalls by year 3 was disappointing. The biggies were rear axle bearings replaced and air bags. Tailgate locking mechanism replacement and 2 software updates werent a big deal. The Hemi ticked after 25K miles and the key fob ignition switch broke at around 23K made me wonder.. Loved the interior though and the exterior looked great too.
I have to say that numbers mean little to me besides towing capacity. I purchased a 2016 Jeep Wrangler and hated on xterra when people talked trash because on paper the Jeep has more power. I got into a xterra (2015) and was blown away by how much power the xterra had over the Jeep. Number wise the jeep is better but realistically the xterra is way stronger.
Awww man don't lift it, you'll ruin it lol. Your truck though. I agree with you on the little details. To me they all add up to make a sweet truck. Plus lets face it, the new rams look the best..
When you referenced, The Ram 1500 has more horsepower than your Tundra - You should specify the year of your old Tundra. The new Tundra's have comparable power and torque. The Toyota Tundra comes standard with a 5.7-liter V8 engine that produces 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque.
lol...if you think 395/410 is "Comparable" to 382/401, then i guess. but if you listened i was comparing the ram 5.7 to my tundra 4.6 and clearly said i know its a different motor too
What are you talking about with regard to the auto shutoff? Turn what off. Also, when the truck turns off you won't have air because the engine is not on. Very confusing.
I'm new to Dodge trucks. Just got a 2017 Ram 1500 Big Horn 4x4 Crew Cab 5.7L. It's gorgeous and I love it. I've had Ford F150s and have been a Ford fan. My truck came with a tow package, and my trailer connections are below the rear fender next to the hitch receiver. Which model of Ram 1500 did you get? (apologies if you mentioned it in the video)
Hi man, I have watched your video it's really amazing Truck I have the same model Bighorn it's really amazing Truck, and I wish to see what you will do later as modification.
jbarres80 Yeah I was looking at the night edition but they changed too much. No longer do you get the dual exhaust and the lights are the standard halogen. And to me anyway the whole front being black is too much. They needed to body color around the main part of the grill and leave the inserts the black. But that’s just me and my taste.
I saw same thing with tail gate I ran a plug by the hitch. I am going for 24" or 22s no lift bs . Gonna throw bags so can tuck the wheels. If I want a rumble supercharge her.
Well the lift isn't "bs" I have a 4x4. Meant for more clearance and off road purposes. You are just choosing to make a truck more like a muscle car. In my opinion it kinda defeats the purpose of the vehicle but, have seen some done up that way and look good!
Does the start/stop disable hack that worked on the Fords, work on the Rams? I think it was like a $7 plug dead-wired that you plugged into the towing harness and the truck automatically disables start/stop cause it thinks you are towing. I agree with you, messing with it every time you are in the car is a PIA.
I ordered a 2021 rebel with the multifunction tailgate, just curious if you looked into it at all and your thoughts on it? And as for your plug, you could trim that cover piece down a little bit.
Just wanted to say that going from a tundra to a ram is like going from a pinto to a Ferrari. Lol so I imagine you would be starstruck in your new ram and be like wow you can actually play USB music on here? Lol
There's a simple mod/hack for the F150s. Just pop the switch out of the dash and jumper it. The computer always thinks that the button has been engaged. Takes less than 20 minutes to complete it. Google it for more info. Heck, same thing might work on the Rams.
hey i saw your review and saw about the tailgate touching the cover of the trailer electrical connector. i went outside and checked my 2012 bighorn and my tailgate doesnt touch the connector cover.
I think the complaint with the Tundra having a lot less power is not a valid point. Get the 5.7 V8 and that might feel even more powerful than the ram with a 4.30 rear end.
The 5.7 Tundra does have 4.30s, but you will definitely pay for it at the pump and it is still not as quick as a 5.7 Ram with the 3.21s and certainly not with the 3.92.
Thank you for sharing. I’m thinking about trading my 2018 Toyota Highlander for a RAM. But I’m not sure yet which RAM to get. I live in Jersey do I definitely need power, AWD, and performance. I just have a few questions. When you drive in the city, how many miles can you drive before you pull up at a gas station? How much does it cost to fill it up. The average gas price in Jersey nowadays is $2.15 per gallon. Most importantly, hows the suspension? Is it rough on bumps/potholes? That’s a big issue for me cause I hate potholes. Plz let me know. Thanks.
Armadillo Wow. Thank you so much for your honest advice. I almost went to a dealer yesterday to finance one. Thought I might get a good deal on Labor Day. But I preferred to wait for a few days and I’m glad I did. To tell you the truth, I wanted to get it because of its height and popularity. Since it’s rough on potholes and doesn’t handle the wind well, I’d definitely not go for it. I’m surprised you liked your RAV4 cause I owned a 2017 for fifteen months then traded it for a 2018 Highlander XLE AWD for two reasons: The RAV4 was bumpy and I gained a few pounds so the driver’s seat started to get uncomfortable. Unlike the Highlander, it’s a quiet luxurious ride. I really appreciate once again your honest response. Stay safe, my friend.
Please remove that "Crystal" label from the back. You may want to look into black lug nuts too. Keep the blackout look going, nice truck. Do it have air suspension?
clarks2001 they actually did. The reason they don’t have it as a option for the 1500, the specs isn’t any better than the 5.7l. There was a rumoured hell cat ram a few years ago announced. Not sure why they cancelled it
@@bradc7720 Exactly, its tuned for towing not for speed. Id rather tune and mod the 5.7. Few simple tricks can extract enough power to match a 6.4. That motor is also heavier I'd assume, stupid to put in a 1500.
Just picked up the same truck 2020 model and the auto shut off is gone. First thing I looked for when I sat in it at the dealership! Thanks for the heads up.
Interesting that it still shuts off when A/C is on. Our BMW car ignores the auto-shut-off if you have the A/C cranked, which is a nice, thoughtful touch.
Thanks for this great content! I just bought my first truck ever... RAM 1500 Bighorn....and enjoy it like crazy. Great power and what a smooth ride. The thing that I found interesting is the back-up camera green lines. I had exactly the same issue and when taking it to the dealership, it never did the same(good thing I recorded it). Even sent them the link to this video 😉. Again, keep posting
On your plug for your trailer, the issue can be solved simply by purchasing an adapter that goes from the 4 wire plug to the larger plug on the bottom.
Beautiful looking truck. I just bought my first ever new ford and the backup camera resolution is horrible. Come on ford. And interiors way more refined on Ram.
Great video. I purchased a Ram Longhorn in Jan. I’m from Canada Manitoba. With our very cold weather this truck started with no issues. Not even plugged in. By far the best riding truck I ever owned. I had them all. I have 11 thousand kilometres now and so far so good. Gas mileage has dramatically improved. On the highway I got 20 miles per gallon
It's definitely the BEST RIDING truck I've ever owned and have other truck owners say the exact same thing. I'm wondering why the other makes don't mimic the interior and ride, which is what Ram has over the others at the moment.
Kenneth Allen so true. GMC is very very outdated in there interiors. Nice on the outside but that’s it. Ford has better interior design but Ram hit it out of the park for not that much more money.
Nice, got mine in Feb and now over 32,000 km and no issues. I drive a fair bit for work so the smooth ride, as far as trucks go is essential. I spent the previous 2.5 years, doing the same driving but in a 2016 Chev 2500 and I'm just glad I didn't have to have my fillings replaced. No comparison, not even close.
For the back up camera I had to do this a couple times when working at a dealer. Unscrew the plates in the tail gate, disconnect the connector for the camera, apply a small amount of dielectric grease, do the same at the connector going into the bed, this fixed every truck we had with the issue
GO ahead and buy an extension (or adapter) for the trailer plug. That way you don't have to put up with that first world problem :). You also get the 'happiness plus' factor in that you can stow extension in that rear floorboard bin. Oh and not sure if your Dodge is like my wife's car (chevy cruze) but when engine shuts off at light she can just lift the brake a tad and engine with come back on. The car doesn't have a switch to turn that feature off at all but perhaps it's time to start googling for that plug in..
Take that big ass muffler off and watch your fuel mileage. I have a 2020 Ram 1500 crew cab long bed 392 rear hemi. I'm a huuuge and I mean HUGE magnaflow man. Had them on every single family I've ever had an they sound great. Get the 14 inch body and remove those nasty resonators and sounds amazing. Nice low deep rumble but not obnoxious either. Anyways I've owned every brand of truck out there. Literally and I love my Rams. Love them. Also. Get the 7 to 4 pin adapter for your trailer.
Not to pry, but I have wanted a Limited. Looked at a night loaded with everything, a 2020. It had 10,000 miles and was the most decked out interior i have ever seen. A caddy does not have that Quality of leather. The sales guy bolted early the day i was going to buy it. He said he would call me back with best price. He was gone for 2 days, and the sold it by the time i got back there. Their sticker was 52,000. Off road, ram boxes night edition sun roof 12 inch screen. I looked at 2021 models 76,000! I wanted to know what price you paid for the limited?
My mom has the same 2019 ram 1500, Appearance package lighting everything it's really nice, And our Ram came with the adapter needed to fix the issue you were having. And another nice thing is the Ram boxes, A lot dealerships didn't get the Rams with the Ram boxes but my mom got her Ram with them, They are really nice and convenient just like the Ram bins.
RU-vid Toyota aficionados are generally the very definition of fanboys. My Toyota (insert bland generic brand model) is "reliable with zero depreciation resale value".....blah blah blah.
I got one too traded in my 2017 chevy for this same truck i love it dodge is now number one and all the bugs or problems are gone with the hemi engine in the new model dodge trucks
I basically have the same truck minus the etorque, but add 3.92 gears. Best truck I’ve owned so far and I’ve had Ford and GMC previously. I have 8,300 miles with no issues other than Apple CarPlay doesn’t always load immediately which isn’t often, but I unplug it and replug it back in. It’s happened like 5 times. I keep track of my mileage on a spreadsheet and have averaged 17.6 overall which includes a trip to Florida and several trips hauling the boat. The dash reading shows 18.5 or 19 so a little off and I’ve never reset it on trip B. Trip A I reset each tank. 12-13 towing and 18-21 commuting. For your towing receptacle issue, I’d get a seven pin conversion to four pin. It would then be in the bottom socket.
I own a 2019 Ram and my backup camera started to glitch. I took it to the dealership and they said it was the uconnect that needed to be updated. They updated it for me and now it works fine. I hope this helps.
@@SM0K13Z as of two days, nope, dropped it off at the dealership and it's prob getting ready to be resold like they do most lemons.. lemon lawed :) I can send you my lawyer and case papers if you would like...
@@ncstate220 how did your car get lemon lawed? I'm really curious, that almost never happens with ANY car these days.... so what went wrong with yours....?
Great review. That trailer plug would be annoying. You could maybe trim the top plastic off of the cover for clearance. I'm surprised they didn't catch that.
If you didn't turn off the auto-shut-off, you'd get better City MPG. I agree with another commenter - get a 7pin-to-4pin adapter for the trailer lights. It sucks that you need to, and RAM should fix that, but it's a cheap & easy solution.
lets see Chrysler Rebel against Chevy Trail Boss in mild off road action.... Why has no one figured this out with all the advertising everywhere....show us what they really act like away from the driveway.....I want to see them get nuts before I spend 50k not after...Honestly I think the Chevy looks weak under itself from what I have seen...
Wait till you get a about 35,000 miles on it. Not sure if they redesigned their suspension but my ram had a bunch of problems with the suspension. Oh yeah and to fix the clattering noise in the engine because the lifters don’t get oil quick enough treat your engine worth Zmax it’s 20 bucks at Walmart and fixed my problem so I am a huge believer in it. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about research it dodge roller rockers fail at about 80,000 miles
Eric Buchta everybody is trying to tell me ram is best? Idk. It's a big risk to spend that much money on. In past ford and Chevy were better than any dodge product....
Just turned over 28,440 miles on my 2016 Ram Crew Sport. No major issues , though the 2nd time I used the windshield wipers, the wiper motor quit. Got a loaned car for the rainy weekend. I have taken several trips to Las Vegas from SoCal. I averaged between 24-26 mpg each way. I am very happy with the mileage. Added locks to my under floor compartments, tailgate snubber, running board steps and a few other items as well. I really like the new style of the RAM, but I have an incredible factory warranty that was offered for a VERY short time. So I plan on keepiong this Truck a very long time! :-)
The compressor is engine-driven. So while the climate fans will continue to operate as normal, you'll no longer receive any air that's colder than ambient.
