The waterfront is a gem for Halifax!!

I can't argue with that. I have spent many days and nights down there throughout my life. I think they have made many positive changes to it over the last 5 to 10 years.

Thanks. It is coming alone. Now they just need to remove the not so great wall of Halifax. As someone who loves the water, I can't figure out why they thought a massive wall that close to the waterfront was a good idea? I'm excited to see it open up.

Can’t wait to see this new home for tents

Apparently, the city would rather them in the commons and in Point Pleasant Park, so this area should be OK. This site will be under construction for years, so I doubt this would make a good spot. It would be nice if the province could find a way to find homes, and mental and addiction help for those in the tents

From what I can find, the Cogswell rd section will go right down between the two parking structures by the casino. So the bend to the left will straighten out. The section at 0:48 will go right in front of the sewer treatment plant, up into the roundabout. That will be a part of Barrington st which will connect to the section in front of Scotia Square. The other side of the dirt lot at 0:36 will become Proctor St. which comes down the road between the parking structure behind that lot and the building beside it. The section just up from the shot at 0:59 will not drop down like that. It will go straight from Nora Barnard, to Proctor St. and will be called, Poplar St.

@@iworshipgloves Thank you. I appreciate it. One thing that hit me when down there, that angle between the excavators and the hill from the ramps, hasn't been visible for over 50 years. Being able to stand between the two parkades and looking up Cogswell will be mine blowing for me.

@@iworshipgloves That is a wild thought. I'm excited to see that new neighborhood. I'm also excited to see people headed back to the waterfront. I was down there last weekend and was surprised at how many people were down there.

There are two hundred streets in the downtown core of Halifax that were built before the automobile. Honestly these two hundred streets are better suited for pedestrians, cyclists but not horses because of the poop. We should think car-lite and bus- only lanes .These two hundred streets really can't be widened and the only place for parking would be these horrible multi- level parking lots .
@beautifulnovascotia
@beautifulnovascotia 28 дней назад
They seem to want to do that on some streets. I can't see it happen for them all thought. People were up in arms with the changes to Spring Garden road that would cause some to park around the corner, rather than on Spring. If they couldn't even drive it, I think it could hurt the downtown core. I see people jump on the bus to go one stop which was about a block/block and a half.
@kookamunga2458

@@beautifulnovascotia Here's another problem. Something like forty thousand new immigrants moved here in the last two years and the car-centric culture here convinced them that the American dream is for all of then to have an automobile. So how are tens of thousands of those new cars going to fit especially in the gridlocked, congested downtown core ? People have to have choices cars , buses, pedestrians, bicycles, ferries and trains. As it stands now cyclists and pedestrians don't have that choice because cars make it to unsafe. That's not democracy and if other cities in Europe with cold snow and ice can afford more bike lanes so can we .

When I was young, I thought it was interesting. As I grew older, it just seemed like a poorly maintained waste. As I learn what was lost to build it, I was happy to see it go.

All the money this is costing could be spent on something more important. What a waste.
@beautifulnovascotia
@beautifulnovascotia 24 дня назад
I disagree. They wasted the money when they first destroyed a community and built this. I'm not sure if you have drove over these over passes but they were not in the best shape. Always full of pot holes, and the concrete for the guard rails were starting to crumble. It was going to require a lot of money to maintain it. This project opens land for new buildings, and business which bring in taxes, it creates area for a new bus terminal, as well as public spaces.

No its not. There's a reason they're doing this development though, it was a crappy development from the 60's so they're tearing it down and replacing it with something better

Halifax sure can use a strip bar or two because it's about the only city in Canada that doesn't have one .
