What differences did you hear from burstbuckers to 57 classics? Now I have 57 classics too. Initially I found the neck too wolly, but then I've understood what is its sound and now I really appreciate it!
Hi, to my ears the burstbuckers sounds a bit creamy and the 57s have a somewhat more airy character and maybe even scooped freq. My ears prefer the 57s. I think you are correct about that the neck position often has a darker tone, and it's probably a bit individual from guitar to guitar. Have you tried to adjust the pickup height? It could be that lowering the neck pickup a bit and then raising the pole piece screws might help. Cheers!
Hi Thor: I had about given up on a LP that was too bright no matter what pickups I installed. Alnico 5 too bright, A2 too dark. I took out the A5 magnets in my ttops and put in Alnico 4 magnets and now it’s what I have been looking for. Maybe play with magnets?
