I'm going to enjoy this rebuild ride! Classic car! I remember back in the 70's a high percentage of cars (over here) that eneded up with vinyl roofs, were because it was a cheap way to fix cars after hail storm damage! And yes champion rust collectors! I noted in the past, there (seems to be) great availability of replacement panels, floor sections etc for a lot of old models! Cheers, all the best!
Very fortunately with the American muscle car market we are very fortunate that the majority of the body panels are available for the more popular models.I admit i was pretty intimidated when i pulled that vinyl top up. But thats the game we play when purchasing a fixer upper. Unfortunately that's the only way i can afford to buy these awesome beasts.
Rust is really hard on these old hot rods especially when they spend time outside unfortunately. Its gonna be a challenge, but the final product I'll have a great looking muscle car.
Ouch. I can see thats going to be an epic restore. At the moment you see a car, when you finish it youre going to see a part of the family. Good luck with it.
Hey Brother great to see you ready to power into my Monti. 😉 You got this, No problem. All else fails get Jim Silvaweld a call. Ha Ha . But I know your love and passion will make her shine again, Cant wait! Cheer's Johnny V
Can't wait to see what the Monte looks like when you get done. I'm trying to score a set of swivel buckets to stick in my S10. Finding the guy I know who'll sell them cheap enough is worse than trying to find swivel buckets lol.
I absolutely love the Monte Carlos, I've owned many and your car looks like everyone of them, same rust issues. I finally bought one from Nevada, a true SS 454, minus the engine and transmission and paid out the ass for it. Now it sits with the other cars waiting for its turn under the knife. Your car is going to look fantastic !
Great to see the car ,being able to get the roof panel has saved a ton of work ,i don't think I have seen so much filler in one place but it will look fantastic when you are done George Best wishes to you and your family.
Wow. That roof is shot! Glad you could find a cap for it. I really wish I'd been a Chevy guy. It seems they make repop parts for everything on them. We had to do so much fabricating and hammering on the Valiant. Good luck with the progress!
Going to be a beauty when you get done. It's nice that you're taking it back to original. I like that. And like you said vinyl tops are nice but they create problems. Hope you had a great holiday. Stay safe.
Very cool to see actual projects as well as die cast. Being a car guy doesn’t designate a scale. Full size most of the year and die cast in the winter. Unfortunate about the rust issues. I’m from Maine and it’s a part of life up here. Take care and good luck. I love those old Montes.
That's a whole lot of work George, a whole lot. Getting back to the diecasts must be a relief, a bit cheaper too. Looks like you've got a plan though - good luck. I just watched my latest Cold War Motors video, first of the New Year. I think you'd enjoy CWM, especially after seeing the project you have in front of you.😁 Happy New Year to you anyway George, looks like yours will be a busy one, lockdown or not. Cheers for now,🥃🍻 Dougie.
Hey Dougie. Ive had Muscle cars in my blood for my whole life. Fortunately ive done alot of welding and metalworking in my past to save this old beast. Its almost a Chevelle so she needs to be saved
Hey George Happy New Year all the best for 2021, the same old problems with vinyl roofs, but fixable awesome car, looking forward to seeing more of this beast, cheers KC Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺😎👍👊✌🇦🇺
Hey KC. Fortunately im a pretty fair body man .otherwise id be screwed. Luckily i can re skin the whole ass end and roof out of a catalog on these more popular musclecars.
@@hodgeshotwheelsanddiecast5192 awesome you can get the panels, and thats cool you can do it yourself, if I was there I'd be helping ya, thats my trade old school panel beater fabricator by trade lead wiping and more, and painter, looking forward to seeing more of it as it goes along, cheers KC 👍🇦🇺
Absolutely love the monte carlo, my mom had one as well green with the black vinyl top. Brings back memories. I am so stoked about this restoration George. I know you won't disappoint when it comes down to it being done correct. Keep me posted on the progress. Happy New Year my friend.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. Lol. I have always wanted a first generation Monte Carlo. They have such a tough look to them when done up right. I got this because i wanted a car that i can upgrade and modify to have fun with. My GTO is a car that i cant modify because its just a car thats worth more in stock form. This Monte i won't be afraid to have a little more fun with.
@@hodgeshotwheelsanddiecast5192 i wish I could find one to restore but as you stated they can have their fair share of problems. I'm so excited for you.
It is a beautiful car brother, it just sucks you have a lot of work to do. You are the one to get it in shape though brother, you do a magnificent job with 1:64, so I just know is Monte Carlo is going to turn out absolutely gorgeous. One day you will show her and I will get to see it, I am looking forward to that day brother.
Looking forward to se it with those redline wheels and spectraflame paint job... Interesting with big build, keep the updates coming, and happy New year to you sir.
Drill and tap the posts, drop it into t0he citrus strip and fix what needs fixing. It took me and my Dad 8 years and 15,000 hours of work to restore my 1929 Dodge DA tourer. It was worth it in the end, as will your Monte Carlo, Hodge. Just keep plugging away at it and you will nodoubt have an exemplary car to complement your goat. Cheers mate, stay well.
Plenty room for a BBC 454 B Nice 🙂😎👍 can you buy new panels? Or do you have to fabricate 1? My god lets fill it with bog fixed now 😂 bad body work, who ever done this was rough, I'm liking this beast
I fortunately can re skin the majority of this car from a catalog. The only part that's not reproduced yet are the fenders for the 70-72 Monte Carlo. The SS version came factory with a 402 big block. This one will stay sbc because its alot more affordable for me to build
She's the Same age as me.lol. I love the first generation Monte's. They just have a mean look to them. El Camino projects are still affordable. But Novas have started to get pricey. Its funny because back in the 80s you could get them cheap as hell because it wasn't a Chevelle or a Camaro.
Can't beat the look of a vinyl top. But unfortunately.....💩. I wish you the best of luck with it. I'm sure you will get it looking as awesome as the little cars that you restore.
@@hodgeshotwheelsanddiecast5192 Thanks for the updates on your projects. Seeing other people's progress helps keep me focused on my own builds. Can't wait to see it done.
@@hodgeshotwheelsanddiecast5192 YES lol. I've been restoring 55-57 thunderbirds for almost 30 years but I also have had several trans ams and firebirds over the years. An Australian falcon is the next bird on the list.
@@johahnz Wow thats awesome! I had my share of 2nd generation Trans Ams myself. 55-57 T Bird is the best looking years for them. I too dream of an Australian Falcon, but the prices have gone nuts on Australian muscle unfortunately.
Hello George, Gary here from Shorter's Diecast projects, can you please tell me how you put clips of music videos in your videos. Any info will be appreciated.
George, I can tell You WHY there's so much rust. Ya bought a Chinese no-name brand Monte Carlo instead of a qaulity casting like Hot Wheels or Matchox 😉
