UPDATE | Unknown Accessory Notification | Am I being Tracked???

Same exact thing happened to my mom yesterday! She got the notification “unknown accessory detected near you”, we can’t disable it. Literally, everything you’ve shared! It’s so creepy. & apple is no help whatsoever.

This is happening to me right now and I can't find any information on how to find it but it's a little comforting knowing I'm not the only one this is happening to. It just sucks that there aren't any answers.

Hey Erica, I hope you see this comment. This exact thing happened to me. I tried many things to figure what was going on. Turns out my location was being shared through find my iPhone app to one of my contacts. This contact had access to my iPhone and switched on my real time location and shared it to them. Its a one way street and you wouldn’t be able to see whom your location is being shared to. It’s not an AirTag because one time I went to a beach with just my iPhone and my location was still being tracked and the worst part is I couldn’t even tell who was tracking my location as it wasn’t showing up on my iPhone. I learnt of this because I was going through ‘the contact’s ‘ phone. This is only possible if someone has access to your phone and find my iPhone app. The notification which saw I’m being tracked doesn’t show immediately it pops up after a certain time. In my scenario it happened after 2 and half weeks. I’d advice you to suspect anyone who has an iPhone and probably has access to your iPhone. I was only be able to resolve the issue by switching off the sharing on ‘the contact’s’ iPhone and not mine. I hope you find your answer and wish you peace.

i’m pretty sure it was definitely an airtag since i actually got the same notification and it was under “items” which is where you connect your airtag to. i’ve given this so much thought, i’m definite that it was a glitch for me. i was surrounded by people i know at work when i got the notif. thank you for the update though!!! stay safe!!!!!!

After one of apples new updates, airpods can cuase that to happen randomly. If it was a airtag you would here beeps after every 3 days. There is still a chance that you are being stalked and you should still take precautions go be safe, but alot of people are having the same thing but from airpods or various other phones or apple devices.

I'm starting to hope Apple gets sued by this... this is not ok... (plus disable this capability) This happened to me not long ago... have not felt safe to drive my car ever since (been about a week now)... been using my moms car instead.

Thanks for the update! I'm a bit disappointed in Apple's response, since it only seems to raise more questions than it answers. Like, why did this product make it through QA without at least SOMEONE thinking about the potential safety threats of it? I find that concerning, and I find the fact that they don't seem to have any clue what's going on even more so. I hope they get things figured out on their end, and if the instances of women being tracked continues to happen I really hope that they choose to recall the product entirely. As for your case, I'm sincerely glad it seems to have just been some weird glitch and not someone actually tracking you! I can only imagine how terrifying that must have been. Keep staying safe out there and remember to always have an eye on your surroundings. It's better to be safe than sorry in these situations, especially nowadays. This happened to me 2 weeks ago. I got a notification while I was sleeping that 2 air tags were detected. The time of the notification and the map that was tracking my movements didn’t make sense. A week later the tags disappeared from my phone.

Same thing happened to my girlfriend today, it notified her that an “unknown device was detected near you” but this was like around 7:30 when she got the notification, so she goes into and sees that it was first seen with her at 4:41pm ( I was with her at the time because I took her to physical therapy) so I didn’t know how someone could’ve put an AirTag on her it’s just not logical if you think about it, she didn’t have a backpack or anything with her when she got down, and I was with her the whole time, so I did some research and also saw that it could be the AirPods Pro, I actually had them with me the whole time we were together, but the thing is she has never connected her phone to my AirPods, so I don’t know if it only does that glitch if you’ve been connected to those AirPods in the past or if it could do it with any AirPods

I think i found the solution. I want to say thank you for this video, same thing happen to my wife. I told my security in my condo to keep eyes on the parking lot of fishy things and to escort my wife to the car if i couldn’t because of work- after clicking the notification and seeing the “ unable to locate “ and trying to click it multiple times after closing the phone. It finally showed the notification and we click to disable and it showed it was her AirPod pros i just bought her. So if you have AirPod pros it can definitely be that. We initially got the unable to locate response but eventually it showed what it was.

I got the same msg and can’t find any AirTag on my car and no contact with others. Bad product for privacy concerns. I am searching for answers as well since it’s really bothering me.

Same thing happened to me recently. Although I know who may have been tracking me, I still haven’t found the device so apple insists there is no way to disable it unless I find the device.. which I haven’t 🙄

I've clicked the 'Instructions to disable item' then it brings me to a stupid apple support page that says "follow the instructions to disable item above" THERE ARE NO STEPS TO DISABLE. I am dealing with this as of last night….I have so many questions…. Because this thing does not let me use the lost sound, or know any more information on messages as unknown AirPods, and now I have to tear my vehicle apart and look/feel crazy. A guy already cr@cked the AirTag and was able to modify the firmware, to get phone owner Rick Rolled, if it's close to an iPhone. There is a video about this on YT. Others may have been modified to disable the sound warning, or the notification. But this tracing is not new, just easier,cheaper,longer lasting using an AirTag. You could have put a GSM cell network based tracker or GPS + GSM cell network tracker on any vehicle since the dawn of mobile cell towers. They were 50x bigger,and heavier, and did not last for 1 year. The only thing that the AirTag changes it is so little and therefore so hard to find. Also, it does not show on map the actual location of the AirTag itself. The Airtag does not have anything init to locate itself. An Airtag is like a parasite. It connects to an iPhone, and gathers the location from the phone. So the location your see on the map is the location of the actual cell phone that is connected to the Airtag. That's why you see the pin in your flat, but the Airtag can be on your car, but still communicating with your phone whilst you are at home.

I got a notification that an AirPod was tracking me from Las Vegas all the way to my house in San Diego no one has an answer or being helpful the app shows the time and place from where I been tracked and I can’t find anything on my car

I just got an unidentified notification today! Searched the internet to no avail then called Apple. They had no idea even after a screen share session. The rep. said, "that's the first time I've ever seen that". He recommended a hard reset after backing up. The unidentified notification had no application identification (like IG or YT or FB) there was nothing. Just the message which was more like an advert.

Same thing happened to my but with my wife I really don’t care about she’s getting a detailed map route on my day; but I really think for the first time in my life from being an APPLE user since 35 years ago BUT APPLE HAS GONE TO FAR WITH THIS. I went to the apple store with a technical support and asked why is my airpods pro showing every move a make on a map very detailed on my wife’s iphone? ( clarifying: my airpods has never been paired with her iphone, she has her own) So the very poor answer he gave was: yes, I’m sorry but it’s a new feature and we can’t do nothing about yet. I just said this is to much privacy wise. And I’ve been a loyal customer user because of the safe OS on iphones. And left very disappointed

This a big problem all calls to Apple are vital !!! I have an air tag notification all the time and I can’t find a tag.. I use an old phone for business . This is why I refuse to buy anymore apple products!!!

Same situation except I moved over 1 month ago & the tracking started at my old address, now I only get notifications at my new address. I've been getting them nonstop. Drove back to old house & didn't ping anything. Drove outside the city to make sure it wasn't on my car. Turned my house upside down with no luck. Notifications only happen when I'm at home, but the time keeps changing. When I use the "Find My" feature, it says I'm too far away to determine the device location. No one with airpods/airtags has visited me or lives with me but I've received notifications for both types of devices. Apply CS & Genius Bar don't know anything. Apple advises you to contact police but WTF are they supposed to do with no device, no serial number and no IP address....?

I’m no expert here but since your boyfriend has AirTags, if he turns off his Bluetooth on his phone then the tag will think it is separated from him and start tracking using the nearest Bluetooth device (your phone). I believe you stated that both of you have different Apple IDs so it is possible. The only thing that isn’t making sense is why it isn’t showing up as an AirTag device tracking you. But, Apple seems to temporarily break a few features with each software update. Hopefully it was something simple and not someone tracking you. Stay safe.

The exact same thing happened to me, last Friday I got the notification, with the exact stops I made all marked and everything. Of course I was terrified, since this is all over TikTok. I went to the police station and had explained everything that happened to the officer I spoke too but he just went on about it just being on my phone. So I initially turned off my location completely, and changed cars for the meantime. But around like 7 I got another notification and once again I had contact the same police office I spoke with earlier and explained it again. But once again he had brushed it off has its just my phone glitching… He told me to contact T-mobile and then they told me to contact Apple… all dead ends.

It’s definitely a software issue.

got a notification that i was being followed by some unknown airpods. Checking the map - they were driving across Germany with me. Looking to the passenger seat i eyed the wife suspiciously.… I suspect there was a software update server side which has caused all these glitches. I was at the mall and this notification popped up ,i got so scared and didn’t know what to do or how to remove it ,i guess it’s someone’s airpod’s that my phone decided , I enabled shearing my location i hope it is just a mistake and not a weirdo trying to track me😅 Pls if you know what the right thing to do tell me 😊

I will say that my girlfriend got this notification but she’s had it 2 times and both times I was around and I do carry a air tag on my keys and sense I’ve taken them off it’s never happened again

You know what bothers me when people start talking about this they never say what "Application" they are using. You know it's helpful you know or give a hint if you can not say what application just give a hint or something. I don't get it why is it so important not to say anything?

Sorry about your experience. Hopefully it was a glitch on the part of Apple's network. Police are not trained or knowledgeable as Apple experts- don't blame/trash them- they are being downsized and have a difficult time keeping up with all the calls they get. You and your boyfriend should be able to troubleshoot by searching your person and car to see if there was actually anything there. Probably not.

i bought used Airpods (buds) without case because my AirPods buds are dead, but case is fine. and i am getting this notifications. So maybe its coz of your boyfriend’s earbuds.

Do you have a jealous boyfriend? He could have temporarily registered it and hid an airtag on your vehicle and maybe he didn't believe you were going home that night and when he saw you did he could have come by and removed the airtag he hid on your vehicle. Just a guess. I would tell him your going out for an evening drink with some girlfriends on a day he could be at work or while he has another commitment and see if you get that message again.
