@@martelly55most people should know that….. that’s why I wasn’t surprised. There is ALOT of cheating and over sexual perversion in Japan and China. Which is worse? That’s debatable. But Japan is known for a lot of its perverse sex clubs and stuff. What’s happening is people are taking it and running to all the Japanese people with questions as if they all partake. Ive been to Japan and lived there. The cheating culture DOES actually exist and is very much normal compared to the west, at least my home country of the Netherlands. Here it's rare for me to hear about cheating, but in Japan I saw it happening everywhere. People I knew cheated casually, friends parents were cheating and the kids would use that against them to get what they want, even a good friend of my girlfriend who was dating someone from my home country was cheating on him WITH HER EX while he was back home waiting on his visa to come live with her in Japan. That girl had no remorse and even joked about her ex being better at sex. Japan is loveless and of course there are examples of lovely relationships, but from my personal experience, they are rare. Every Japanese person I have spoken to had horrible relationships and were just dealing with it without solving it.

I know this is like a poison belief at this point because of the cultural backlash happening against social progressiveness---but this is why diversity is helpful, it doesn't need to be forced or whatever, but when people actually live and socialize with different kinds of people they really do understand others better. Because what you notice the most is the ways that you are similar to that group as opposed to different. Our differences are all pretty surface.

The main problem with those street interview videos is that the creators will usually only pick the most interesting and or outrageous parts. So what we deem as normal answers could be filtered out in favor of getting more views. That being said.. it's unfair to go in main cities or hotspots to ask about cheating or going to brothels. Like no shit it happens. Some are gonna be more open about it than others, which are the ones the creators will favor.

People can decide for themselves what they want from their relationships. Also, you can't expect everything your partner does to make you happy. For example if their jobs involves traveling all across the world across the whole year then perhaps a committed relationship doesn't suit them at the time. You can't expect them to quit their job. So, I live in Japan and I also have a heavily research-focused degree, and wanted to give some added context: 1. Shibuya absolutely doesn't reflect all of Japan. You can see it in the girls being interviewed too. NO singular location with a tiny sample size can be generalised, but that's especially true with pockets which have their own culture. 2. Prostitution is huge in Japan. It ISN'T just in big places like Shibuya. I live in a rural city, and within a 2 minute drive from me I can think of four brothels. And those are just on the main road! I'm sure there's more of you were looking. And I'm not even counting "girls clubs" where prostitution is also apparently common. So the girl in the second video is definitely downplaying that aspect. 3. Cheating in Japan is INCREDIBLY common. In my experience, it's more common than Scotland (the only countries I can speak to). And I'm including emotional cheating in that. It is likely down to the work culture, as some girls said in the video. Men work long hours, women are more likely to work part time or non-overtime. They get bored at home, or bored in their relationship. The man is too busy working to provide for her, so she feels lonely. It's a cultural issue, but it is very common and can't be justified. Being in Japan, I've been with about 6 or 7 women. Four of them turned out to be cheating (two were married, one had a boyfriend who was visiting family, and one was insecure because her boyfriend had female friends and used it as an excuse to fuck her work colleague). Obviously, they didn't tell me until afterwards, but they were a lot more open about the cheating to me than I'd expect people to be. But yes. It's incredibly common in Japan. It is, as you'd say, a sickness of the highest order. And it's culturally imposed.
@btb554
@btb554 2 месяца назад
Is cheating common among men as well or just women in japan? And do men consider their gf/wife going to a prostitute not cheating like some of the women in this video does ( if male prostitute is indeed common in japan)?
@lifelinebynature
@lifelinebynature 2 месяца назад
@@btb554 for physical cheating? I think it might be about equal. If you're including one-off prostitute visits as cheating, for instance. But for emotional cheating (dating other men, or an intense/intimate relationship with another person in a non-"professional" manner), particularly in marriage, it's LARGELY women. The reason for this is simply workplace and (more specifically) gender-role inequality. And there aren't really male prostitutes here, so the culture is different. Women work less, or not at all - men work overtime every day. It's also why female prostitution places are open til like 3 or 4am. Some are even 24hr, so they can catch the guys working super late on a regular basis. The first cheater I was with, we were together for like 6 months? It wasn't dating, it was fwb on both sides. But she spent a lot of time with me, even Christmas day (a big day for dating/romance in Japan). Turned out she had kids, too. Her husband didn't have any idea because he was working too much. And she also had a job, herself. Even with that, she had more time than him apparently to be spending so much of it with me. It's part of the reason I stopped casual dating in Japan at all. After being with cheaters more than half the time, I figured it's just not worth the risk of being an (albeit, unwilling and unknowing) accomplice to that.

It depends on who you’re talking to. A newspaper did a report on my town saying it’s the ghetto and one of the most dangerous places in my city. I lived here all my life and only started feeling unsafe once the gentrification started like a couple of years ago and I’m almost 30. What became a known thing outside our town, wasn’t really acknowledged or known to us inside, yh some people I’d spoke to agreed whole heartedly but the rest would disagree and say they wouldn’t live elsewhere. So if a person says it’s accepted in society and yet that’s the same person who accepts those ideals and surrounds themselves with the same people, doesn’t mean it’s a cultural truth, just tells you more about that person and how they see the world. Prostitution is more famous in other countries that cater to it way more publicly than Japan, I’d say their porn industry is more known than their prostitution industry. Maybe it’s a language thing and it’s talking about sex work in general?

I've lived in Japan longer than Asagi's been alive. I can say with confidence she's playing damage control for Japanese culture. Of course generalities means that everyone is different. But life in the major cities is definitely fast and loose. Married to a Japanese woman for 12 years.. and have first hand experience with this myself and my wife knows and doesn't mind. The density of these major cities contains the overwhelming majority of the country's population. So these cities ARE indicative of widespread culture. Also, this culture isn't NEW.. it's existed for hundreds of years in Japan and the concepts of cheating/visiting sexworkers is MUCH more engrained and accepted in society.

@@xxxmelissatacionxxx In Japan there are many shops that beckon men to walk inside. It is almost as normal as women going to a nail salon or getting their hair done and viewed as normal maintenance for men. The first time I went to one was with my boss back in 2004 when I was working for a major travel agency. He treated the men of the office to what is known as a "pink salon" after we finished working. These shops aren't only in the big cities, they are throughout rural Japan as well. Many small towns have these shops even when they don't have a proper shopping district... Everyone is different and there are many women who still find it gross, poor taste or be upset that their husband does it for sure. However, it also has wide acceptance and many women understand that men go to these shops regularly. From my experience, 6 out of 10 women would not care/accept their boyfriend or husband doing this in Japan. Some women even consider men visiting these shops as a "hobby" and use that word to describe it. it's seen as normal male behavior and doesn't effect their relationship. To be honest one of the reason it's so widely accepted is because many women have also worked at these shops at some point in the past. Many men marry a girl that maybe worked at these places for a month when they were younger, so there's acceptance both ways. 20 years ago it was even common for highschoolers to work these shops before the government got strict and put new laws. It became rampant for highschool girls because they could make better money and was less demanding than normal part time jobs. Many generations of wide spread cultural acceptance or at least wise spread awareness/understanding. It's not just shops with girls photos in front.. most hole-in-the-wall shops you see in Japan with prices listed on a small sign are these shops. When you're in Japan, take notice of how frequent you find these places in ALL areas of the country

As a nearly 16-year foreign resident of Japan who lives outside of Tokyo and has lived in the countryside and has been living in one of Japan's major cities for over 10 years I think I have a good perspective on this (I am also recently married to a Japanese woman). The answer is somewhere in the middle. Asagi's video makes good points about Shibuya (which isn't the red light district btw, it's the major hangout area. The red light district is in Kabukicho which is in Shinjuku) and this type of content however, there's a lot of damn cheating in Japan. So much so that you literally see billboards for private investigators that focus on infidelity around town. Oddly enough I see them more in the countryside than in the city. I would argue that most cheating happens between married couples. Japan is one of the countries with the highest rate of sexless marriages. I'm almost 40 and in the years I've been here most of the people that I've spoken to about cheating or heard about cheating are not young city men and women, they are middle-aged and married with kids (usually). And sexlessness is usually the cause. Or they married someone they didn't really care about are looking for excitement as one married woman told me as she hit on me hardcore. She even pointed out that the group of women she was with all cheat on their husbands. They basically go out as a group looking for the D. They were a unique situation. The channel "The Japan Reporter" run by a guy who calls himself "Nobita" is a better channel for Japanese social commentary. And I will also that even older people have the same sort of view about how they see going to brothels. This is especially true for married women with kids, there is a lot of looking the other way if husband is doing his job providing.

it may not be as common as those videos say, but in general, in east and south east Asia prostitution is a much more normalized than most western countries. America has huge amounts of prostitution. But's it's kind of a shady thing. And people who go there are looked down upon a bit. But in places like Vietnam, Thailand and China it's commonplace. In China it's normal to go to a brothel after a business meeting before going home

Really appreciate that ya'll share that japanse lady spreading some truth and realistic context about Japan. I personally never watch yt videos about any country in general. Unless the indvidual themselve is part of that country and is sharing some fun facts about their people like on the shorts we have on yt now. Though minus that I dont watch full on videos simply because like the lady said. People dont be exploring the entire part of Japan and only explore a small part of it and go their repeatedly. Not a very helpful thing when someone plans on traveling for future regrence. I honestly rarely watch those videos and when I do I just take what they say and add to my own knoweldge and say what make sense on the topic. So really appreciate this lady spread some realistic and truthfuk words about the whole topic of Japan cheating thing. ((P.S are people still asking that? It 2024, I thought that topic ended way back then lol))

I've always felt the same way about Fresh & Fit. They cherry pick specific stereotypes of women to be on their show. Either the super hoochie, Miami nightclub, IG/OF model/cornstar, or a super conservative trad wife. The one thing you NEVER get are actual real women that you'd find cruising a grocery store on a Wednesday because she's low on stir fry veggies and found a coupon for 2 for 1 yogurt. I'll give whatever podcast some credit. Brian does bring on a variety of women, many of which are relative nobodies in the social media space (though I'm sure many of them are looking to break out into that space and are only there to take advantage of the reach that the whatever podcast provides). And many times when he brings on regular girls, they are the most common sense and amazing, but they usually aren't controversial so they don't get as much attention in the algorithms. Not like the clips of girls getting kicked off the show or screaming and losing their shit, those clips go viral.

I work in Japan and my colleagues and friends have all told me about a culture in Japan called 'Tattemae' and 'Honne' (inward face and outward face). It seems that there may be a strong need to have others perceive you in a certain way. So I think even during interviews, we will never really know if the truth is being told or not, especially when there are other friends around who may agree/disagree. That being said, in my experience, I have met many more men who have admitted to cheating than women. All in all, I don't think countries like US/UK are really THAT different to Japan in terms of relationship dynamics.

By "culture," do we mean something that is normalized and socially accepted? Does "culture" imply a particular way of life for an entire civilization? Cheating certainly exists, but is it a wide-spread phenomenon, or is it simply embraced by a morally-corrupt minority? I am not convinced "cheating culture" currently exists, but it will SOON become the reality, especially as human relationships + morality continue to deteriorate.

The "Aboot" thing. I've almost never heard a canadian say that except from the dudes from DDE. I have heard it from people from Montana and Wisconsin, so I wonder if that's even really a Canadian thing, or if its just a few small areas near the border. Funny how some small amount ends up getting projected on the masses as a whole.

It’s not cheating if the partner consents to it. Like a test in school.. it’s not cheating to use notes and the textbook if the teacher says it’s an open notes/open book test.
@Dice-Z
@Dice-Z 2 месяца назад
It kinda is if the partner is consenting solely because they are afraid refusing might have negative consequences for them, their reputation or their relationship. Depends if it's weakness (can't truly blame the other party for taking the chance, but can't truly blame the other if it ruins the relationship for them either) or if they were heavily pressured into it, but either way, if consent worked that way then grape wouldn't exist as long as you forced someone to say yes. But this is a complex topic and one that is too easy to sabotage with politics.

The mistranslation of "prostitution" is annoying. "Fuzoku" isn't trading money for sex. That's actually HIGHLY ILLEGAL in Japan. They're talking about massages or hostess bars (no happy ending included). It's very similar to the concept of stripping (look don't touch), but no one actually gets naked. I mean, it's Japan after all, lol. Now, if they are using the same term "Fuzoku" for illegal prostitution, then I guess I'm mistaken. Just really wanted to clarify.
@azuth20

Older than edo my dude. Im generalising but the Japanese weren't that reserved until the west started influencing them. I've seen so many wood carvings of dickery from the Japanese from just about every era. It'll still boil down to region and culture. Like hokkaido is vastly different than idk tokyo. Some sects were pretty reserved, but historically japan looks at sex veeeeery different and openly compared to even their closest neighbors

I personally think that if as you and your partner age, your sex drives don't align anymore as one slows down faster than the other's, arrangements for the partner with the greater drive should be made socially acceptable. Western culture is ridiculous with its inability to tell love and sexual health apart, despite most having no issue separating the two when it comes to kids or relatatives. Love means wanting to see your partner's needs being met.
