Thanks! These radios are actually really expensive. They also HAVE to be licensed to ensure that laws are not being broken while using them. If you are caught using and/or interrupting a police and/or firefighter frequency, it is punishable up to 20 years in jail and/or a fine of $20,000. I am glad that I inspired you to get these! They are really nice radios. After you get them (if you have the money), then obtain a radio license. After that, then you can contact Motorola. Then likely, they will sell you the programming software. The software is about $350. Then, you will need the programming cable(s) for whatever radio(s) you bought. So these in general are pretty expensive. Definitely not the kind of money any kid and/or young person will have. ;)

Yeah, i will try to save up for them. I have a Motorola radius m1225, which is used as a scanner or radio for a fire truck. I would need a license for that's too.

The XPR 3300 can cost anywhere from $250-$350 each. I bought the XPR 6350s for about $120 each. The 3300 was brand new and the 6350s were used but in great condition. The license you have to fill out an application and apply for. THEN, Motorola can sell you the software. I have decided that I will just pay Motorola to do encryption for me since that is one of the only reasons I want the software/cables. So I just assume not waste any money on something I won't get much or any use out of. ;)

Alexander Goushy Actually, my bad. The license is only required if you are getting the programming software...

You are operating these radios illegally and are subject to the fines and jail time you mentioned in your video if you interfere with other licensed users and you get caught. You need a license issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to be able to transmit on frequencies in the business/industrial pool (Part 90). There is *no* exception for "home/personal" use as you indicate. When you transmit, your signal can be received by radios several miles from your home and may be interfering with licensed users. You may be getting confused with purchasing a license to the Motorola radio programming software (CPS) vs having a license to transmit on the frequencies the radio is programmed. You don't need the programming software if you have a friend that can program the radios for you - but you as the operator can only transmit on frequencies you are authorized for. You seem to be interested in radios - you should explore getting your amateur radio license. It's a fun hobby and you will learn more about the technology and the rules of use.

I am not confused with anything and I know exactly what I am doing. All of the information I stated in the video is exactly what Motorola told me personally in my city. Thanks for the info, however, if Motorola says I can transmit on these in my own private home as long as I am not on any public safety frequencies, that is what I am going to go by, to be completely honest. They specifically said I do not need a license for what I am doing here, and I decided to hold off on buying the software since I only wanted encryption on these. Lastly, I have never had a problem with using these in the way that I am using them.

Doesn’t matter if your using them in your own home, if you don’t have an fcc license you are in violation of part 90 rules and possibly interfering with actual licensed users.

Well, I took these radios and had them programmed by the Motorola dealer in my major city. They specifically told me that since I live far away from the main city and for the hobby I’m doing, that it was ok to install encryption on them. They would not have programmed them the way they did if what I was doing was illegal. I did not program these, they did.

@@firealarmperson4774 I think your moto rep assumed that you had the proper license to operate the radio with encryption. There aren't many exceptions for operating a radio with encryption enabled without holding a license **that isn't amateur radio license**. Also the audio sounds like you are in analog mode in this video which is fine without license provided that you are specifically meeting the following: Using them at low power/high power on allowed GMRS channels with proper GMRS license, not transmitting data formats or encrypted audio/data.
