I separately purchased USMC Pack (FILBE) Modification Kit to fix some of the crucial failures of the frame setting. you can learn how to do it by watching the video below • Video
I just put my molle 2 straps and belt on mine and I'm gonna say that it is by far the most comfortable pack I own. I have the Alice, ilbe, and molle 2.
I did the same with my waist belt and now I'm using my FILBE on a completely other kind of frame which for me is way better. I put it on a Mystery Ranch frame and it's almost like it was made for a FILBE pack. Fits like a glove.
MR NICE frames, so far as I'm aware, are based on the ALICE frame, just like the FILBE and even the MOLLE II frame. It's impressive how interchangeable they all are.
Great frame and great pack. HOWEVER.. i wish they would start equipping us with an ALICE type frame. The FILBE frame does not marry well to an individual with body armor. I always have an ALICE type frame on my FILBE so everything sits nicely on the hips.
1606 downeast frame is somewhat modern but there are already plenty of cases reported by marines on the field like a problem of breakage in cold weather..I think ALICE frame will last for long time like forever 👍
@Better Mouztrap Sitting on your bag and throwing it off to the ground is the stupid idea but they are meant to be used harsh! For the use on the field I think tubular aluminum frame is the best for carrying heavy load and for durability like the ones from Tactical Tailor and Eberlestock.
It's beyond an OK pack. There is a reason why after 40 plus years Marines still deply with this valuable piece of kit, RAH! Great video. OUTSTANDING mod with the FILBE frame, starts and belt. Did you do a vid on the mod? Please advise. +Park James Semper Fi brother.
Efrain Suarez II Thanks for the comment! I've done a video some months ago on this mod before this update video. check this out :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-R5K8HfxhUGM.html I love my ALICE packs definitely worth the effort modifying these packs for comfort and save a lot of money. it really can hold up heavy weight thanks to the frame. I like big bucket style pack just like ALICE. I also highly recommend you to use ILBE..one heck of a pack system!
It's a mediocre pack, with outdated technology. There's a reason the Marines went to the CFP-90, then the ILBE and then the FILBE. And why Force Recon units and tier 1 units purchased off the shelf packs.
@@VintageTeak I agree its not the newest technology but its fun to modify your gears and make your own pack. I got 2 ILBE packs, 2 MOLLE packs in ACU and Woodland, FILBE system, and Large medium even small ALICE packs. LK35, Eberlestock Halftrack and Battleship..and bunch of other packs..the list goes on and on..LOL I mean I got all kinds of packs so I know the cons and pros. Modifying ALICE is really fun and you could save some money. And I got packs from Tactical Tailor and Eberlestock. They are not cheap but I also had to modify them to fit me great. I think there are no perfect packs for you. You just got to make em better 😃
@@militarygearjunkie2522 I love the Alice pack the large pack for me is great for the winter I'm a Hunter trapper fisherman hiker and survivalists I teach survival and primitive skills and I love this pack if you add a sleep carrying system on the bottom of the pack you can now use your heavy duty cold weather sleeping bag just fine with room to spare I did upgrade the shoulder pads and waist belt like you did but I kept the Alice spring because it was far more better more durable and more multi-purpose than the cheap plastic frames they make with the military packs now I've had family members in the military that can tell you those friends will break it's not a question of if it's a question of when it will break with the Alice frame it's not going to fail like any of those frames the ribbons may come out over time but with a simple hand rivet tool and a drill bit and 5 minutes you can fix it for it to last another 5 or 10 years a lot of the military people I know use the Alice frame on the f i l v e large rucksack because the frame is so much better there are different modifications you can do to this pack but like a lot of the Marines I know I like to have a backup I put quick release FastTech buckles on my pack but I keep the original metal ones on there as well so that if the plastic fail I have a bomb proof backup still allow me to use my pack with no problem you can recoat the inside of the lid of the pack with flex seal making it waterproof once again there's so many different things you can do to this pack and it always makes it better and better love to see new videos of this pack with all the modifications you have done so far
Wow I'm not sure how 2012 filbe came out would be 40 yrs ago on a personal note I like filbe pack on alice frame but I'm over 6' and filbe frame is not a good fit
Dohh you were supposed to use heavy duty wire cutters and cut off the metal things on the webbing straps then cut a slit in the buckle up slide on the modded ITW replacement buckle man. I've done it to both of my military style backpacks checkout my videos
is that enough for cutting off metals? I think I needed a bolt cutter and didn't have one lol I'm okay with the mod on the buckles. Done this mod to 3 ALICE packs and they've been holding up pretty good so far. anyway thanks for the comment!
