Please forgive the quality of this instructional video - It was created very quickly to answer many questions. I hope it helps and remember that I am a person just like you and can make mistakes. Be nice to each other :)
After not able to use OM Workspace on my MacBook Pro (not able to work through work 13.5 OS), I found your brilliant video. I updated two cameras using app on my iPhone. Thank you very much!
Using the app is way easier than using OM Workspace. It's also a great app for backing up custom settings. Worked fine for updating the firmware on my OM-5 and my OM-1. I did, initially, have trouble on my Mac when I updated my OM Workspace to version 2.3.2. I had to remove and reinstall it and closely follow the directions while installing. After that, it worked fine. One think I would recommend BEFORE updating firmware via the app, is to save your custom settings to the app in the phone first.
Thanks Dax, I just updated my OM 1, I was worried a bit before after reading all the problems people had, but it was easy , very well explained. Thanks again from the Philippines 🇵🇭 😊.
Thanks Dax. I had already updated my OM1 via OI Share before I watched the video, much easier than using Workspace which is used for my Em1ii and EM1x.
Thank you. Didn’t even know there was a firmware update for the OM-5. I hope it fixes the high res plus starry sky autofocus issue I had. Couldn’t use both together.
My camera has1.0 firmware. is it possible do to the update with OM ImageShare? My Mac has the M1 chip and I am not willing to take the risk of disabling the camera that some users have experienced with the Mac M1 chip. Has anyone made the first update, on Mac with M1 chip, using OM Image share? Very clear instructions in the video-- David does a FANTASTIC job explaining things here, and in other videos.
Wish I had seen this before I tried this.. I saw all of the problems you had and wonder if I had screw the pooch on my camera. I had tried from my LT and it the update failed , but I was blessed in that it did not brick my camera. I never got the OK. SO I left it at 1.4 Then IO saw on a OM forum on DPReview where someone said use your phone.. Thanks
Thanks, David. I can't get the new version of Workspace to launch on my PC -- it crashes as soon as it opens for some reason -- so I tried this method. Unfortunately, I don't have cell service at my home, so when the camera and phone connect via wifi it cuts off my internet connection. Is there a way to have the app connect the phone to the camera using ONLY Bluetooth? I need the phone's wifi to connect to the internet, not to the camera. Has there been any thought to making this process less dependent on a continuous connection? I'd love to be able to just download a firmware update, load it to an SD card and perform the update offline, like I do with my Nikons.
Many thanks. Very clear and lucid instruction. I have two questions. 1. At what stage ae the existing camera settings transferred to OI Share in the phone? 2. In place of wi-fi can the USB-C cable that comes with OM-1 e used to connect he camera with the phone? My Android phone has USB-C port.
@@daxsmithphoto1 Thanks for your prompt response. I understand how the settings are reloaded. But to begin with, the settings must have been transferred to OI share from the camera. When does that happen?
To consider.. I have an EM1 Mk 3 and an OM-1. I am unable to update both together or easily. Could/would you go through that process and also I need it for doing the other aspects of OI Share besides firmware update. THanks.
David...thank you for this. I have been trying to find all this info, simply explained so my 83yr old brain might understand it and get on with updating my OM1. The app can be used as a remote shutter release and that is the subject of my request from you. I have been playing with this on my iPhone and OM10 mark IV and I accidentally set up my camera for bluetooth connection using the OI.share app and I love it. I have two other cameras which need this bluetooth connection and I am unable to repeat what I accomplished before. I can connect via wifi and use the app but how can I choose bluetooth ONLY?? Any help here would be appreciated. Thank you. Joe McGrath
Hi Joe - Glad it was useful. So its not possible to choose which connection the camera uses. It will pick either WIFI of BT depending on the function its asked to perform. Remote shutter is BT but LIVE VIEW control is Wifi etc. The E-M10 is a simpler, more automated camera and takes a lot of the work away from the user, including some setup options in this case.
Hi. Thanks for the video. My new iPhone 15 Pro lets me connect to the camera via Oi Share, but every time I select check for updates I just get an error message saying failed to connect to server. The cellular signal where I live is pretty awful & we use wi-fi calls. I have tried driving to an area with a stronger signal to use the cellular connection and get the same result. Is it me?
Nice video, but it didn't work on my android phone, the app didn't ask me if it is ok to join the camera wifi, it just went directly to connect wifi, and just kept connecting forever...., or it gave me an error
