Thanks for this, I've been looking for this exact instruction but for a 2016 F-150 Lariat. The USB download option was taking way too long so I am doing the USB update now. Perfect instructions, thank you.
Man, thanks so much! I just spent an hour on the phone with Ford support, and they couldn't figure out why it wouldn't update from my USB..... I followed your steps exactly, which were WAY different from theirs, and it worked!! You rock bro!!
SUPER HELPFUL!! My Ford service dept. was no help and even a chat with Ford Sync didn't give me this info! THANKS for taking the time- wish your dealership was closer :) I'm still a bit confused why the 3.0 update shows complete in my account online, but on the car it says "last check for updates was on Dec. 2017"...
Thanks for the great video, helped me out a lot actually, I appreciate the email response back trying to help as well! Subscribed! Have a great one, Doug!
Thank you for this, really. I have a 2017 Taurus limited and the Infortainment system has been acting crazy so when I call the ford dealership they all acted like they had no idea what an update was and was trying to make me schedule an expensive appointment to "diagnose " and another few months to run it though my warranty.
2 weeks ago, I'll buy my new Escape SELAWD 2018 in Lima, Peru, with sync 3 2.3 version. Today, 19 min ago I'll update to 3.0 version. Thanks for your video. It was useful. Greeting!!!!
I’m not sure why nobody has posted a video yet but I updated my sync from 1.0 to 3.0 just by using my home wifi. I didn’t have to go to a website down load anything to my computer and them format a thumb drive and then connect the thumb drive to my truck. All I did was updated my sync using wifi. Maps and all it did everything!
I have a 2015 Focus and I did all the correct steps and my screen said installing/install complete. I clicked OK and nothing had changed so I turned my car off and then back on and still nothing had changed. Is my focus not compatible with this Sync update? It still shows up as the Sync/software my car came with.
Any idea why I have the “download icon” (white circle with black down facing arrow) to the left of where it says “Updating System Software...”? I have a 2016 Taurus SHO that still has Sync 3 version 1.0 (bought it like this a couple months ago)
Yours is THE best how-to video I've seen thus far! Kudos brother! I have a question regarding SiriusXM channel support via Sync3? I recently purchased a CPO 2017 SuperDuty which has Sync3 with Sirius and NAV. up until earlier today, it was running Sync3 version 2.2. I used your video and successfully upgraded it to version 3.0 and submitted the file to Ford. Problem I am seeing is I am still not able to tune my SiriusXM radio past channel 219. I was told this was fixed via a TSB but I was thinking this update to 3.0 would fix it. Am I missing something? is this still a problem and if so, what must I do to get it resolved. Thanks in advance for any help on this! --Andy from Houston TX
Ironically, this has nothing to do with the Sync3 system, but that Sirius Satellite Radio has a large variety of "streaming only" channels that are above 300. I would recommend streaming the channels above 300 that you want to listen to through the bluetooth audio system with your smart phone. A complete list of available channels can be found in this Link: www.siriusxm.com/channellineup?
Just an add on. I updated to latest 3.0 version. I had a 128gb drive full of MP3's in the other port. It fried the jump drive. So make sure you don't have anything else hooked up to the other USB port.
what if you did this whole process into the flash drive but plug into the flash drive and start the engine to the vehicle and the update doesn't start is there a manual way of doing it or was there incorrect process that I was doing when it comes to it?
So I just did this update to my 18 fusion titanium, from 2.3 to 3.0. Do you have to plug your phone in via USB cable to get the Nav icon to show? It doesn't do this through bluetooth? Thank you for the informative video! My dealership wanted 120 dollars to do this update.
- if you didn’t get voice activated navigation with your Titanium, then yes, you will have to plug your phone up to get the Nav icon to show up, also, it will help to have a Waze account already setup, and open when you plug your phone into your car. If you have an Android, there’s a bit different way that you have to go about getting the Waze app to work on your SYNC3 system using Android Auto
Do these updates include any navigation map updates or is that another download and install what is grace note for and not sure what provider does the maps this wazs thing I assume is a phone nav app that's not the same as my nav app that came with my Explorer and f150
Rick La Breche - this update does not include map updates, it only updates the version to 3.0 - Map updates are found on Ford’s map update site - www.Ford.navigation.com
Quick question, I just updated my 2016 Focus ST3 today (sync 3). I did everything as shown, when I plugged in the USB, it said "updating system software" as supposed, and it stayed like that for like 20 minutos, after that it just said that the updates had been successfully installed that I may remove my USB, the thing is that it didn't rebooted or anything like yours,( btw I when from 1.0 to 3.0 ) is everything good ??
@@drivewithdoug5500 Great !! I just checked today right on setting, and it did updated to 3.0 🙌🏻, thanks for the tutorial !!! Now I Android Auto and for apple too
We have a 2016 non nav escape and we are trying to update it to sync 3 v.3 from v.1 but we keep on getting "not enough space or does not work with this version". voice recognition not ready is also popping when we try voice command. We tried usb and wifi update but still getting the same message. can someone help us?
Frost Alvarez you need to extract the zip file you downloaded. If you are using a Mac, use StuffIt expander to extract the zip file, you then drag the 3 files onto your flashdrive, do not open the syncmyride folder, leave them as is.
I have a 2016 Mustang. I am trying to update for the third time. After two hours it still reads Updating system software. The USB is as recommended. Any ideas?
Micky Finn - you can email me directly - drivewithdoug@gmail.com and I can help with walking through the steps to make sure everything is done correctly.
@joseph banzon. Hi I had to try three times to resolve it. It was a pain. Make sure your USB is formatted to FAT. I reinstalled the programme from Ford and it worked no problem. Check your USB format again.
Wait, you just flew past something that's not on the website and I haven't done. I formatted a 32 gig USB and downloaded the update then dragged and dropped it on the USB file and confirmed it was on it. I was about to put it in my 2017 Ford Edge but have been looking for what specific port because Ford site says use 'correct port' and Ford Edge has at least two USB'S. so it looks like I'm not ready to insert it into the Edge at all if I have to re-download? Wish you went slower on that part, owner.Ford.com does not say anything about it, but thank you. (also so surprised that driving around for I've heard up to an hour is now not enough but you have to be able to connect to Wi-Fi the moment USB updating is finished or to finish the update!? This whole update thing has been so disappointing for a vehicle over 40K. Quick Lane or dealer can't do it either and now I find out there's no navigation update. Horrible.)
It can go in any USB port as long as it has the blue or white ring around it (I'm sure that's what they mean by specific port). Also it only took me 15 minutes to update from SYNC 3 1.0 to 3.0 and without WiFi connection, just left it parked in my driveway running
Hello, What ara the advantages of updating the software? I mean, is it like when you update a phone and get new features or what is the difference from the old software to the new one? Thanks!
it said 8gb on the website, I used a 16gb thumb drive and the first attempt gave me a failure error after the system restarted. I am trying with a 32 gb drive now
Nick Holmes - as of right now here isn’t that ability due to the size of this update, the Sync3 system doesn’t have the memory or RAM to be able to download and update to this specific update. Other smaller updates it can do automatically, but just due to the size of this one it can not.
I am confused. In your video you show the files downloaded and you put them on the thumb drive right away before you unzip the files. Am I understanding that step properly? I used my daughterWindows PC to download the files. But when I look at your folders in the Syncmyride folder, your icons in that folder don't have a the zipper up each icon at the 1:37 frame on your screen. My icons in the Syncmyride folder all have zippers on the seven icons. Is mine not done correctly? At least thats what I am thinking because I can't get the upload to work on my 2016 F150. Plus on my 2016 F150 is running v1.0, so I am not sure if thats part of the issue. But I doubt it is.
Douglas Bell On my jump drive there are only 3 files, when I updated to 2.2 I had same problem as you, I had too many files. I use a Mac and finally have only 3 files on my jump drive and haven’t had the time to install in my truck
Douglas Bell I would make sure that your USB is formatted properly, then after you unzip the file you’ve downloaded from Ford, drag those files to the empty, “exFAT” formatted USB. Once there, you files should look as they appear here. If not, I would contact Ford, because they will be giving USB’s out to help with people updating, and they might give you one with the software already installed
UPDATE I tried every option to try and update my sync system and nothing would work. I eventually gave up and called Ford's support to help. The first time I called I talked to a rep that seamed like we had it figured out, but it didn't work. Called back again a few weeks later to the Tech support team, but this time another Tech said to do a Master reset on the system and wait about 15 mins. and try the update. I did the Master Reset and tried the update and boom it worked after about 20 mins. So for you guys out there that have trouble trying to do the update. Do a Master reset on your system, wait 15 mins. and try the update. And just so everyone knows the update can be done while your driving. I updated mine while I was driving because I was tired of all the gas I was waisting trying before.
Yado Kurdo - double check files, ensure files are unzipped, and located in the root of the USB, also, ensure that the USB is formatted to EX-FAT, also, if you have attempted to do the update and failed, it’s important to check you files on your USB, possibly try deleting and re-copying them to your USB, and also, before attempting the update again, perform a reset, located in Settings>General>Master Reset
@@quasimodoshunchback Make sure to format in xFAT. Download from Ford using your VIN. Reset the Sync3 to factory and when it reboots, shut the car down and leave it for at least 30 minutes. Then start the car and let it fully boot up. Then insert the flash drive and wait. Be patient. Do not remove until it says too. Then shut the car off and upload your results to Ford. After an hour or so, go back and fire the car up. It's a painstakingly slow process. When you download the update, do it to your computer, then extract it to the flash drive. DO NOT drag and drop.
@@quasimodoshunchback Step 1: Reset to factory. Step 2: while the car is sitting, go to wonder.ford.com and use your VIN to download the proper version of 3.0 to your Desktop. Format the flash drive with xFAT. The right click on the download and extract directly to the flash drive. Step 3: Start your car and allow it to fully boot up. The car must be running. Then insert the flash drive. UPLOADING will appear at the top of the screen. Be patient, it's slow. The radio will reboot several times. Step 4: Once it says to remove the flash drive, remove it and shut the car down for at least 20 minutes. Then go back to the website and upload the results file. Step 5: After that, start your car and check the version.
@@jackstark5767 nope chatted with people on ford site but still did what they told me and nothing keep getting this number on screen haven't called them maybe u want to try 1800 392 3673
@@gallos2010ih I just fixedine by changing the usb, it's only a 4gb stick but worked and popped up within a minute of being plugged in, I'd recommend changing the usb
Drive With Doug Well.. I just did my update and started using a 16gb drive and received an error message once it restarted. I then put the files on a 32gb drive and it worked on the second try. I dunno.. maybe it did need a 32gb drive. I didn’t receive any clarification as to why the first one failed
Todd P - I’ve done some updates where there is no explanation, and the only thing I do is a master reset, and restart the update and it works. I have no explanation on some of the errors, only to try another time
Ian Hillman - the update we are discussing in this video is for Sync 3 - you have Sync’s voice activated systems in your 2010 F-150, and is a different setup then the Sync 3, so you wouldn’t have to worry about updating yours; unless you wanted to trade up
dansabbath 84 Hey mate can you explain how you did it?? Because it keeps getting stuck on "updating system Settings.." IV tried over ten times and the same thing happens. Is your Flash drive formatted to ExFat or Fat32? And where do you live if you don't mind me asking? Thanks for your help
Daniel Lukic Hi bro, i can help you, i format my usb to ExFat and i'm from México, this instructions will help you www.google.com.mx/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.ford.co.uk/content/dam/guxeu/rhd/central/owners/resources-and-support/sync-%26-bluetooth-support/docs/SYNC_3_USB-Update-Guide.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwiI_rbPhMTcAhVbGTQIHVGNBdUQFjAKegQIBRAB&usg=AOvVaw3CMjDK__uiFBVruMcaYuKw
Gonzalo Ceballos Thanks for your help but i already did all that, the update starts about 30 sec after inserting the USB, then about 10 mins into the update it turns off and reboots, after 1 min "updating system software" shows up.. now this is where my problem is, iv left the car on idling for about 50-60 mins and nothing happened, I have done this countless times with the same result so I came to the conclusion that it must freeze up. I have also read that other owners are having the same problem. Its getting really frustrating as leaving the car idling for so long can't be good for the car. By the way I'm currently on version 2.0 and maybe that has something to do with it
I would Ot update at all cost do not update. It causes soooooo much lag. Literally takes 5-10 second to go from audio to sources. It’s stupid, why would ford be okay with crap the use in there vehicles
