Do you perform the forehand flip differently depending on whether the ball has underspin or topspin?
@PechPongTT
@PechPongTT Год назад
Great question, yes your racket will be more closed and your stroke more forward and contact will be made more on the back of the ball and less underneath.

Wow, beautiful video. Editing, annototations, audio, and of course explanation were top tier. The new additions make watching an easy experience. On the next technique video, if you think it would fit, consider adding a portion where you recommend a drill (or two) to practice the technique and short clip of you doing it. The Hugo clip was a smart choice in the video. I am excited to try it out at my next practice!

I like the base technique. But what do you do with a ball that drops just over the net?
@theimprovementlab
@theimprovementlab Год назад
These are three topics I would be interested in learning more about how to transfer your weight effectively so that you use more lower body and less arms? how to return sidespin serve to the back hand? How do you select rubber for your paddle?
@PechPongTT
@PechPongTT Год назад
Those are good topics, I did one video on how to improve power in your shots maybe look through my library and you can find that video which shows how to properly transfer the weight. I also did a serve return video and it shows how to return side spins to backhand. I have not done a rubber one yet so I’ll look into that
@zivking123
@zivking123 Год назад
Hey Seth great vid :) One thing that is missing for me is what do you again half long serves? Can you still forehand flip those effectively (like with the backhand/banana flick?)
@PechPongTT
@PechPongTT Год назад
Hey yeah you can flip them it is an option I would try to use forehand loop and really work on being as aggressive on those as possible it’s a huge payoff if you can loop with strength however if you just roll the ball up it will be easy for your opponent so then you could try to flip if you don’t feel comfortable looping but long term I would loop and hey maybe your forehand flip is so good it becomes your thing.
@janosch7210
@janosch7210 Год назад
For me the 'dead flip' is just something you use, when you cant really use something different anymore. Its like a lastminute alternative. I mean, if i receive side-under serves i can either flip it 'chiquita style' offensively and trying to start dictating the rally, which i do when im pretty sure where the ball will land or what spin it has. Or, in the other case, i try to push it with some kind of aggresive push/ ghost push where i take the ball very early with a lot of backspin, usually i return it straigh down the middle to have the most effect. His ball is way harder for most opponents to deal with, than just a 'dead forhand flip' where they already know, what spin is on the ball. Overall i just dont see the strategical benefit of the dead forhand flip. Yeah, you can return a ball to them and give them back the initiative, but its tabletennis. A sport mostly about being aggresive in the right moment. So why not trying to find the right moment to go for it instead of waiting for your opponent? This line of thought led me to much more points in total, than just waiting for my opponent to do a move, then relying on any kind of counter move!
@PechPongTT
@PechPongTT Год назад
Good thoughts! A player who used the dead flip very effectively was samsonov who wanted his opponent to counter with speed so he could redirect the ball.
