Best upgrade video I've seen so far. My GSG is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I already placed an order with MFI for some of the parts I'll need for the upgrades.
That’s great, the GSG is a fun gun to own. I have always liked the MP40 so owning one was a must, with all of the parts you can get close to the original look. Plus it’s a really fun project gun. Thank you also for your kind words, l wanted to cover as much as possible in this video.
Great video! I have a small problem with my MP40. The shoulder rest got stuck doesn't move. It stays out when I want to collapse it the stuck collapses but the resting part don't move. I tried to unscrew and screw it back in but I couldn't make it work. If you have a solution for that, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
Thank you, they can be very tight and mine sometimes sticks too. I would disassemble it and add a spot of grease to the detent and see if that helps. It did with mine, the more it’s moved the better it gets. Let me know how you get on. If you’re still having issues l would also reach out to ATI.
The hate for these guns is unfounded. I’ve put a few hundred rounds through mine and never been cleaned. It’s never had a malfunction of any sorts other than the stock charging handle leaving. But the upgraded one sounds perfect. I can’t wrap my head around how well made this gun is for the price point and the aftermarket support for such a niche gun. Highly recommend everyone get one for their collection. 500/600 bucks for a pistol that can turn into a beast for a few hundred dollars. Have about a grand into mine as is and it doesn’t disappointed!
Yes they do seem to get a bad wrap. For the money they are totally worth it. I have spent a ton of money on extras but for me it’s worth it. Even for $1200 plus with all the upgrades and SBR paperwork it’s still cheap for a MP40 lookalike. It’s one of my favorite guns.
Have you ever handled a real MP40 ? The shape looks the same...the rest is totally different ! This GSG gun does not deserve to be called a MP40 ! This is an insult towards german engineers who created the real and original one !
@@HarryCowl I agree with you but having said that its much cheaper. For anyone not looking to drop $25,000 on a real MP40 the GSG is good. With all the upgrades it looks a lot better than when it comes from the factory.
@@TheArmedExile Just a simple question: a an american guy (I suppose you are ?) would you accept to buy a 1911 pistol made of zamac with a frame molded into two main pieces rudely screwed together (with huge gaps) ? Tradition and history deserves respect ! Germans from GSG have no respect for this and it's really a shame... This gun is a piece of junk despite all the efforts you made to improve it ! Do it or don't do it, but if you do it, just do it well (and for less than 25000 dollars;....: much reasonable for 3000) !!!
@@HarryCowl No but a 1911 is not expensive either. Please let me know where l can get a real MP40 for $3000. The GSG is just a clone l like it and so do others. It also cost much less than even the $3000 you mentioned.
The best and probably most underrated upgrade is the screws; even if you just buy better allens instead of the historically accurate flat head/slot screws you should do it. GSG uses the cheapest chinesum screws i have ever seen, I am currently trying to remove one that stripped instantly the first time i tried to remove the plastic for painting. Got an easy out and thats just drilling through the metal instead of biting. Even tried to make a tiny slot for a flat screwdriver and that instantly stripped.
I had no idea the GSG ones were that bad. I am glad l was able to get my old ones out okay. I hope you’re able to do the same. Stripped screws are not much fun to deal with.
@@TheArmedExile i dont know if it was just a bad batch or what; but 3 of the 4 were no problem. Just ended up having to drill a smaller hole down through the screw (smaller than the dia. of the threaded section) and was able to extract with an EZ out.
Does anyone know where to get the correct slotted screws to replace the original ones? I have searched the internet but only find old auctions. I also live in Sweden and that makes it impossible to buy most of the parts from the US. But a set kit of slotted screws must be possible to find?
@@theseptembersessions_music There is a GSG MP40 owners group on Facebook and several of the members sell them. They are just screws so no issues with shipping them l would not think.
The metal airsoft stocks are fine a little janky to get the button to work as you have to leave the roll pin part out the way out but it does work and lock and unlock the entire airsoft gun cost less than the stock from ATI... So I got my SBR and some decent wall hanger airsoft MP40s
That’s good to know, thank you for sharing. I thought you could use some airsoft stocks and as you say they are cheaper. Not to mention ATIs come in and out of stock quite often!
@TheArmedExile That was the thing for me was the out of stock issue. Thanks for posting the video and bringing up the MFI parts I'm glad to finally have a correct front sight protector and safety didn't even know MFI existed till your video
@@AllThingsFlightSim You’re welcome, the GSG is a nice gun but it has so many things on it that look out of place. MFI do some neat upgrades and while still not a real MP40 it’s a lot better for sure!
@@TheArmedExile But you wanted to make a repro of bakelite, didn't you ? Visualy, this is not too bad for the texture look, but about the colour, once more, you're wrong ! Have you ever seen bakelite ? Red/brown colour and nothing else (see a VZ58 gun, as an example). At the end, in my opinion, a black colour (if you consider it existed on MP40, like for the Walther P38 handgrip...) is certainly better than a bad bakelite repro (and much easier to get) !!!

Yes it’s not too bad, I have photos of the whole thing but have not turned it into a video yet. The key is take your time, once you remove the screws there is a small spring that tends to fall out on the trigger. Other than that it’s not too bad. If you run into problems let me know and l can send you some photos. If you’re unsure it’s always best to have a gunsmith do the work for you.
