Thank you for these tips. Just stumbled into your account ...I am so impressed by your videos! I am just starting out photographing our wildlife around my home (Germany). Your videos are awsome and help me go on and just try. Thank you so much 😊
Thank you! You are so welcome! Nice to have you around. It really is a good idea starting around your home and local area. I have a video coming up soon with more tips, and one of them is actually to shoot local if you're just starting out ;) Good luck out there!
So for your lens foot you can get a QD connector to make it easy to carry - I have the Magpul QDM Heavy Duty Quick-Disconnect Sling Swivel from amazon and I have put a couple of peak design anchors on it. Reason I prefer this is for 3 reasons: It disconnects quicker. You can keep the strap on around your body when you disconnect the lens (don't have to put it away), and the lens carries better (the lens carries more horizontal rather than with the element point downwards).
More of a question actually...regarding the Peak Design Slide strap - are the 2 PD anchors (by themselves - without using a carabiner) sufficient to securely hold the weight of the 200-400mm lens attached to a full frame camera?
I would say, yes! I also attach the PD strap to my tripod, with both fluid head and the camera with 200-600mm on it, when im not carrying a bag - an it holds everything without a problem. A really cool accessory! :)
Just want to mention that the teleconverter is not useful if you have a Sony A7RV (and possibly A1). Together, the 200-600mm and the 1.4x teleconverter are not sharp enough for the high resolution of these cameras. I have made multiple experiments showing that photos at 840mm with teleconverter do not provide any additional definition or sharpness compared to photos at 600mm without TC form the same distance from subject (at same ISOs, same and different apertures). In lower megapixel sensor cameras, the teleconverter can still give better definition and sharpness, since the sensor resolution is the bottleneck there.
I am torn. I use the A7R3 so slightly less MP... sometimes I think the optical magnification of the TC helps the autofocus because the sensor has a bigger subject to focus on. Other times I am am convinced it does not help due to the higher shutter speed requirements and the tighter aperture. Very situational! Realistically TCs are mainly for the big 400 and 600mm primes - hence I only have the 1.4x
One thing is to shoot pictures, it's not my field as a professional filmmaker to be honest. But for video it's 100% a game changer, since your options for cropping is limited :) But im really happy for all the feedback I get from photographers, since I'm on my way down that road! So thank you! :)
Great tips I have most of these like the foot for the lens and have the 1.4 and the 2x converters but went with the insta360 x3’s instead of the GoPros then I don’t miss a shot with them and don’t have to turn them around and set up my Sony 70-200mm 2.8 ii the same also
Thanks! :) it's such a nice setup with the convertes.. I've also considered the x1.4 myself. I have just used GoPro most of my life, so can't imagine using anything else, though I do really think insta 360 is awesome! I have friends using those.. But any action cam for behind the scene stuff is really useful and convenient :) Thanks for watching
@@KalebeSoares on the 200-600mm lens i like to use my 1.4 converter and on the 70-200mm 2.8 ii I use the 2x converter so then I have a 140-400mm lens when I use it
@@andersaastrup that’s how I was with the GoPros also and use to get all the new GoPros as they came out but then tried the insta360 x3 and now have two of them and also looking to get two of the insta 360 x4’s and wont be going back to GoPro’s and gave away all my GoPros but did run across one of them the other day that I still have
Mine is from Easycover bought online from Frederikssund foto.. hard to find in Denmark actually, but to be honest I wouldn’t recommend mine.., it’s fine ofc but it gets a bit loose over time 😅
