Every video I watch on upgrading the pool pumps, I notice the same thing... THESE PUMPS ARE SO LOUD! One guy, I could barely hear him... don't know why he even bothered making it! You explain things well, but its just too loud. Thanks for the vid!
Nice set up I have the same one ,I was also putting my tablets in the skimmer basket until a pool expert told me I was wasting money doing that ,do to the tablets being filtered before the water comes out of the return line and not helping much .so I ended up getting a floating tablet holder.
Allen Dewbre if chlorine was filtered out through the filter then it wouldn't matter where you put the tabs. Eventually it must go through the filter. Many pool experts pour chemicals directly into the skimmer basket for quick distribution into the pool.
That's a great setup you have there! However I would be wary of the chlorine in the pump basket. While some pool chemicals can be added to the skimmer I would not put them there. Utilize a floating tablet dispenser instead. They cost like $10. Unless you run the pump 24/7, after time the concentrated chlorine will eat up the metal/rubber parts inside of the pump and you'll be investing in another pump very quickly.
I had the same thing happen with the hose crimping up on my vacuum hose.... Now I understand why. Plus I also had to cut the hole to upgrade my pump and was scared the whole time I was cutting glad I didn't mess it. Love my sand filter.

John, I like your video and your explanation, nicely done. I have a summert waves 15x48 pool similar to yours. My setup thats attached to the side of the pool is similar to yours except that the hose outlet is on the side of the plastic casing. I want to hook a haywwod pump to mine, but my pump motor is inside the casing and sealed to a plate on the bottom. I would need an adapter plate, or filter plate to illimated the motor. can you tell me where you got yours? Thank You Don
Hi Paul, This pump has been discontinued from intex. I think you can still find it on amazon. 28651 16 inch 3200 gph. The adapters can also be found on amazon. It holds 150 lbs of sand.
Joe Loncar Since you used the adaptor for the skimmer you didn't have to do any cutting on the skimmer? And what was it called? I went on amazon and there are several adaptors and i am not sure what to get. I have same pool you have and bought a sand filter from intext and I am trying to figure how to put the hose from the sand pump into the skimmer. I saw your video you said it was about 15 dollars. But then i saw a white one and then it said people also bought this with it, and it was grey ones and I do not want to but more if I do not need it. So would I need any thing else ? I understand the vacuum I will have to get a better hose. But I am talking about just getting the hoses to fit into the skimmer.

Joe Loncar Thank you for responding!! I ordered and I ordered a new Jet that blows the water into the pool as well. I hope It has the attachment that fits into the hose of the sand pump as well. It is suppose to convert into it. This gets expensive after a bit. We also ordered the thing that goes into the skimmer to vacuum the pool, and we will go get a hose that will not collapse I am hoping i can go to a pool store for that.
We added a Sand Filter Haywood I believe. It doesn't have near the pressure and circulation of the water that yours does. I wish I knew why. I believe mine should have more force
Would you mind making an update video and show how you vacuum? I am working on the same setup as you have there. You said what you ordered to vacuum, but I'm not sure I understand. Thanks Joe...I have the exact same setup as you do. The pump works well, the only problem I have is when the pump shuts off, the strainer basket overflows and water comes gushing out. The only solution I've come up with to stop a all the water from gushing out is to plug the hole in the skimmer. I'm pretty sure this is not normal. Has this happened to you? If so, what did you do? If not, do you have any ideas as to why this keeps happening?
I have an odd question for you. My son just got rid of his cartridge and went to a sand unit. But now when we hooked up the vacuum and when I turned it on it cavitates the pump and looses prime. HELP a Vet
fill the vacuum hose with water, so the pump doesn't suck all the air. literally submerge the house and then really quickly put the cap in the skimmer, and your vacuum will work.

Alexwilson225 plays MC I agree! the pump you mentioned would be much better than the one that came with it, but check the prices. You can get a bigger pump and filter for about the same price. My plan is that in a couple of years I will get a larger pool, but my pump will be strong enough.

yes, the pump I ordered came with all the inch and a half hoses needed. I had to order a separate hose for the vacuum. you will need to order the adapter for the bottom of the skimmer basket and the bigger inlet.

I should have listened about the hose to vacuum, i used what i thought was a good hose but it wasn't. Busted my skimmer canister, huge crack and had to order a new one.
when I hook the adapter up to the skimmer for the vacuum it doesn't hold good and it does fit. how do you create good suction to vacuum the pool out I have the 2100 gallon sand filter

My question is: I tried opening the skimmer basket where you have the chlorine tablets, and water started gushing out like crazy! So how do you open it? The pump manual says there's some kind of plunger valves that you close, but since we have this hooked up to the old skimmer basket, there is no plunger valve. So how to do you open the skimmer basket?? Thank you!
Tricia Burke I use some simple plastic "top hat" shaped stopper to stop the flow from the pool skimmer. I also put the pump valve on closed. I have a video I plan to upload about that.
When the pump and filter is off does the water still gets in the pump? I have a similar pump and the same filter but I still don’t have electricity running on the pump and I don’t want to fill the poop up to the skimmer before I have an outlet.
just to let you know that small jet nozzle you have on the return inside the pool is putting a strain on the pump motor, i had one and it burned out my pump motor after 3 seasons, i know this video is 4 years old but if anybody watching now save yourself some grief. (my wallet still hurts lol)

Did you have to back wash it first..we bought 1 and it is leaking bad..not sure why..when we turn on the pump it doesn't make it 2 the outlet hose...it overflows out of the sand tank.
alesha bryant it sounds like you either something is loose, or the valve is in the wrong position. I think the instructions recommend to rinse it before filter. Not sure.
alesha bryant make sure the handle on top is in the correct position for filter. The clamp that tightens around the top of the sand tank should keep all the water going in the right direction.

Letticia Martinez sorry... must be frustrating to try to find an adapter to fit! For a while I just left the small black pump connected to skimmer but unplugged. And I ran the line to the sand filter and it worked just fine. Actually you don't have to get the adapter.. just use the old pump as the adapter. Good luck!
Zack DeMoss I don't think the pump is very loud at all. It might sound a little loud in the video, but if we are outside doing something else you don't even notice it. Sometimes I hear the water more than the pump. Maybe like a loud fan.
Hello. I am currently trying to connect the adapter to the same pool and skimmer that you have. Same pool. We bought the same pump just a smaller version. I can't seem to get the adapter in on the bottom of the skimmer. Its leaking. What could I be doing wrong? Seems like it doesn't fit. Will I need to connect the hose and clamp for it or fit tight?

Joe Loncar I guess the hole under the skimmer is larger on this one. This 1 1/4 in adapter is way small. I tried all I could to make it work. I'm going to the local pool place for the right fit. I'll update soon.
Yes you can leave your pool up all year. I leave my 16x48 up all year and just winterize it. Next year I'm getting a 24' Eclipes and will be leaving it up also. It is a lot of wasted time and money draining it and getting it ready for storage and then having to put it back up the next year and filling it back up again. It is so much easier to just buy a winterizing kit, put it in the pool,cover up your pool and you are done till summer comes around again.
Is it just suction that holds on the hose at the bottom of the skimmer? I know that clamp will never tighten up around that hard hard plastic. I have a new sand filter and I am about ready to send it back.
gunslingr45 The adapter that goes into the skimmer basket has a locking nut on the inside of the basket. The medal clamp is helping the 1 1/2 stay on that adapter.
Joe, Did you have to get new adapters along the pool wall to connect to your 1.5" pump tubing? I can't find any inlet adapters like the one on your pool anywhere.
Hi Joe. Thank for making this video! We installed ours tonight (a 12" 2100gph on a 12' x 3 Summer Escapes) Everything's working great but I still have air in my inlet tank (the part with the clear top)-do you know if this is a problem?
Thanks Joe. I have the exact same setup as you, but I'm having a huge problem. The strainer basket keeps overflowing with water. It started happening after the pump shut off. It shut off and the water just kept flowing through and gushing out of the strainer basket. Now I can't seem to get it going again without it constantly overflowing. It's so frustrating!!! Any ideas?
Sorry, I figured out to be own fault. I had the lid to the strainer basket just resting on top, not screwed in...duh. Thanks for your response though ;)
Hi ... I have a question I am hoping you can answer! We bought the same pump, but have a problem with the top of the pump sitting on the sand tank ... it won't go flush. It seems that the PVC pump inside the tank is a little to high ... Intex said to take the sand out and see if the pipe isn't sitting right on the bottom of the sand tank ... any ideas? I can't get the top to sit flush, and can't put on the border clamp on that ... thanks!
Just curious, but what made you decide to purchase the 3000GPH pump which is rated for larger pools? I have a `16ft pool, and I just purchased the 2100GPH sand filter pump. Do you think this is a bit overkill or was it worth it?

I had to buy a new inch and a half vacuum hose and adapter for the top of the skimmer. I still have to be careful because the pump will still collapse the skimmer basket. I also purchased a better grade vacuum.
Did you insert the adapter from the bottom of the skim pump or pushed it through the inside of the skim pump because my metal clamp i purchased sill not clamp to it. I bought the one you said to 4552. How do you get the 1 half inch hose to stay on that metal clamp?
The737Man- Seattle-Tacoma Airport Plane Spotting The adapter goes in from the bottom (outside) of the skimmer (where the old pump used to be). My 1&1/2" hose fit pretty tightly around the adapter. The metal clamp is just for added security.
Hey Joe, I happen to have the exact same pool and we have been struggling for 2 years with the factory pump. As you know, it does not do the job. Would you be able to let me know what the part numbers for the sand filter pump and the hose conversion that you purchased on Amazon? The pressure I saw coming out of that pump was awesome compared to what I am seeing in my pool. I appreciate your time. Great video for those of us trying to enjoy this pool.

hi, for some reason I can not get my small jet strainer to blow out water. it sucks it in and my two intake hoses are blowing the water out but really not no pressure. please help. I have a intex 20ft by 53in and a Sandpro 75D
what do u use to cover the entire bottom of skimmer? my pool has a pump like that and I want to convert to the sand filter but the pump is the entire bottom of skimmer, you take the pump out and there's no bottom...anyone know what you need besides the adapter?

I have a 21' round and have had the cartridge type filter for 12 years and its time to replace it. My debate is sand vs paper cartridge and Im sick of buying those every 6 months to a year cuz I cant get them clean as they new. It drops pressure and my vaccum dont work as well. How do you like the sand now that you've had it awhile?
Joe Loncar i bought this exact pump for my proseries pool what is the adapter that you bought for the old pump into the new pump where the skimmer is that you have your tabs in? Mine is leaking like crazy
we don't buy the expensive shock chemical. you can have the same effect for car less money by adding chlorine...household bleach is usually the cheapest. as long as everything else is in balance
not sure I understand. the outlet I guess would be the skimmer (where the water leaves the pool) and the inlet is where the water enters the pool from the pump.
Hey Joe! Thanks for the reply! In the video u said u bought a new vacuum hose bc the one with it is not sturdy enough for the pump. What kind of hose did u buy? I'm have the same issue with sludge at the bottom. I bought a broom type vacuum that picks up leaves and such but any dirt or oils that sink to the bottom are washed back out by it. Any suggestions on what kind of hose to buy?
Karen Rascoe No. I have seen some people leave the old pump connected but not turned on. Just as a connecting piece. I think it might restrict the water flow.
Thank you for your input. All the videos I've seen the pump that came with pool wasn't used. We'll decide once we get a new one what to do. I wish the videos people make would mention that. (What to do with original pool pump when installing salt or sand filtration system). That would be so helpful.
A much better adapter is the GAME 4560 available here www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004TYBCEG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=AQ8ZOMX0FE9YI&psc=1 Do not over tighten the 1.5 inch threads into the bottom of your skimmer. It comes with an O ring that will unseat if you do. The other end uses a gasket that fits your intex hose perfectly!
Hi Joe. Could you explain what kind of outdoor outlet you used? Is this a GFCI outlet? I currently do not have an outdoor outlet and now I'm wondering if an outdoor extension cord will work? Sounds unsafe but is there any way around it? I am currently in the process of purchasing the same pool and a sand filter system because I am aware the filter that comes with the pool aren't any good. Pleas help!
we are using a heavy duty exterior extension cord. The plug from the pump has a safety circuit breaker built in. If it gets wet it turns off. the worst part about that set-up is you have to unplug and wrap up the cords each day.
Thank you. I don't even mind wrapping up the cord each day. I know they say using an extension cord won't give the pump enough power to operate like it should. Have you receive any problems?

So far I have the sand filter, the skimmer conversion kit, I just want to make sure this is the right inlet from Amazon. Do I need anything extra for the skimmer conversion? Any extra hoses? Carlos Belcerra I’m actually taking my pool down now but the pump worked great for me!!!!!! Easy set up, no leaks or anything and makes vacuuming work like a charm! It was my first sand pump and I wish I would have purchased this years ago! The pumps with the filters are horrible with vacuuming-I was able to vacuum my large oval intex within 10 minutes with sandpro 75 d!

Please do upload the video you mention, that is my next step is vacuuming my pool, we just put up our pool 3 days ago and we followed step by step your video, we bought the same sand filter and have the same pool, everything worked swell... next year though I will be purchasing the shut off valves, i find it will be easier with the shut off valves when it comes to backwashing. Thanks for your video, I never would have even thought to upgrading our pool filter system if I never ran across your video!! :D
Also...I wanted to ask...The return valve , the water is not coming through the eyeball inlet, its coming out all around the inlet, how do i adjust the inlet to where the water comes out the eyeball only??
Suzie Sammour make sure you have trimmed the liner to match the new inlet size. Also make sure the black gasket is on the inside pool side of the inlet. I will try to upload a vacuum video. In glad I was able to help. The only place you will need to stop water flow is the bottom of the skimmer basket.
