Glad to hear you guys are all OK after that crash! Life gets in the way, I get it. Great video and very enjoyable watching you do the upgrades while your music played in the background. Never get tired of hearing you play and sing. That's a killer guitar now and can't wait to hear some more videos playing this beast. IF, you don't give it to your Dad 😃 then you'll need to film a video of him playing it. God bless and rock on🎸😎👍

NO kidding! I've been rear-ended twice in 4 years. $4k in damage to the car, $50k in damage to ME!

Wow that was a wicked hit on that van! That gloss finished neck makes crisper tones to me. Great for that Tele sound.

I tell you what, my stepdad would say "I sucked all the cotton out of my seat" when I saw that truck barreling towards us! The gloss finished neck is really cool :)

Stellar vid as always. Love the Planet Tones Humbucker size P-90. Think it sounds killer! Looks killer too, nice touches with the tuners and cream pup rings.

I also put dry soap or wax on the end of my straplok screws as I’m screwing them in. It helps keep them from cracking the wood.

Wire a push-pull like the "Gilmour" switch in a Strat, you can get bridge+neck in position 1 and all 3 in position 2.

Very cool Lucas, I can't wait to watch it all the way through. Just curious, do you have a video on fixing fret sprout on a Tele?
@LucasFowler
@LucasFowler 11 месяцев назад
I haven't done a video on fret sprout specifically, but I will make one the next time a guitar comes across my bench that needs it. I do have a short snippet about it in this video(time stamp included) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tWG31HJpyS8.htmlsi=39skW6f_kVn_oDfi&t=179

Hey! Thanks for the visual tip of marking the cardboard with actual positions. I use a layup board but your method gets wiring lengths correct. Also, what hercing huge capacitor thingie did you use? Also, why not ask for a new neck? Glad you and family are ok!! Best Regards and Best Wishes!
@LucasFowler
@LucasFowler 11 месяцев назад
Great questions. The capacitor is a Mojotone .047 cap that I had in a box that I figured I'd try, I usually just use an orange drop .047 for singles and .022 for humbuckers, though I've had some .033's that I like too. The reason I didn't ask for a new neck is that mine is a 25.5" scale and the production models are 24.75". Presumably, the bridge placement would not be correct if I switched the scale of the neck as such. Thanks for the questions and compliments!

I wonder if how much it would cost to get a new neck from Bootlegger. It would solve both the short fret and scale length issues.
@LucasFowler
@LucasFowler 10 месяцев назад
I'm not sure if Bootlegger offers replacement necks but if you were to have a problem with your guitar, you could of course return the whole thing for a replacement, I'm sure. I suspect because mine is a prototype with a longer scale, the new shorter scale necks would not intonate correctly on my body with it's bridge placement.

What is that process you are using to cut the nut and could you please do a video on it at some point? The tunes sound fantastic, BTW.
@LucasFowler
@LucasFowler 10 месяцев назад
Basically, I just measure the height of the first fret, add .012" to the wound string slots and .010" to the unwound string slots, and then use feeler gauges as a depth stop with my nut files, so I get precisely the slot height I like. I'll add "cutting nut slots" to my video to-do list! Thanks :)

@@LucasFowler I saw what looked like some sort of device attached to the neck with rubber bands or something and I thought it might be a special tool. Phil McKnight has a tool(s) he invented by cutting the tang off various size frets, radiusing them and epoxying them into the plastic tips from Strat trems. I'm lazy and uncoordinated, looking for an easy way out.... Thanks for the info!
@LucasFowler
@LucasFowler 10 месяцев назад
@@TheDrunkenScoundrel oh I misunderstood what you were asking, yes it is a special tool! I used to hold the feeler gauges with one hand and file with the other but I've been using this stewmac jig for a few months now and I like it a lot. www.stewmac.com/luthier-tools-and-supplies/tools-by-job/tools-for-nuts-and-saddles/stewmac-safe-slot-nut-guard/

Lucas how do set up your guitars? Action height and neck relief do you typically go for thanks
@LucasFowler
@LucasFowler 11 месяцев назад
Generally speaking, I get the neck as straight as I can get it without fret buzz on the first 3-4 frets. I cut the nut slots to .012" above the fret height on the wound strings and .010" of clearance on the unwound strings. Then I set the high and low "e" strings to approximately .050" at the 12th fret _while_ holding down the string at the first fret(to take the nut out of the equation). Then I set the rest of the string heights to the correct radius of the guitar based off the high and low "e" strings. On some guitars, like my 10" radius PRS's, I find I can actually run my strings at closer to a 12" radius that way and still have no problems, allowing for a slightly lower action, so I do that if I can! Hope that helps!
